Sometimes, you want to zoom through an article at 800 words per minute. But you might miss something. You might lose sense of where you are - in a bulleted list? A new paragraph? SplashReader lets you easily toggle back and forth between speed-reading and normal reading with a flick of a space bar. It pauses every paragraph, giving a sense of context. Highlight a word to re-read a section or start again somewhere new. Don't sacrifice comprehension for speed when you don't have to. SplashReader is an RSVP (Rapid Serial Visual Presentation), similar to other excellent speed-readers like Reedy, Spreed, Spritz, Squirt.io, and Glance. The primary differentiator is the ease with which you can move back and forth between one-word-at-a-time speed reading, and standard reading. SplashReader is open-source, with the code available at http://github.com/rattrayalex/splashreader

Doesn't even work.
Okay, it seems most of these Spritz readers can't do .pdfs, which is disappointing. The 'breaks' this takes, where you can see it 'scanning' a webpage? THAT'S what I want from speed reading software! I want something where it will train my eyes to follow a target quickly, which I think will apply better to reading an ordinary book than just having the words fixed in the centre of the screen. Thank you.
The app runs quite well and can reach higher speeds than most other implementations of Spritz I've used. The breaks after each paragraph are also very helpful in increasing comprehension and the length/speed information is a great bonus. It would be even better if users could customize the size of the font to take advantage of larger/smaller screens.
