It works, but it also stops videos playing that I want to play, e.g. Wikipedia videos.
useless
It works, except on pages with multiple videos. once you start the first videos and you scroll down/up, all other videos on that page will autoplay. i haven't checked whether that's true only for that page or for the entire domain, as the extension is broken and therefore undesirable.
don't know about other sites but it is not working on instagram.com
News sites used to drive me crazy when they would start playing videos automatically, especially when they are totally unrelated to the story on the page. This extension works exactly as described for me. The only thing I would like to see changed is the abaility to add sites to your own whitelist.
still seeing autoplay videos on random sites
Brilliant! Those effing sneaky ads and vids that give me a heart attack are now SILENCED!! Muwhaaahhahahaha!
Can't disable it for a website. I'm dropping it.
not working?
ютуб не блокирует ,бесполезное приложение
Blocks forking auto-play on Yahoo sucks, that is a major offender. And on Neflix which is also really annoying! Great! I wish this extension would also be available on Amazon Fire to shut Netflix app auto play up! However, unfortunately it allows playing their frappy auto plays on Fox News, CNN & NBC News. It as a disappointment. Summary: good when it works, but forking auto play offenders still find ways to cheat this blocker. Hope improvemnt is on its way!
Don't bother. Doesn't work, at least on news, media sites, and facebook, Uninstalled.
SPAM!!! If you click the link for his website, it takes you to SPAM! Or a dead website, it changes each time you click. This is true both on the Chrome Web Store if you click the "Website" link, and within the extension itself if you select the first menu option named, "Video Autoplay Blocker by Robert Sulkowski".
Does not work
Does zip nothing!
Didn't work
I also think a white-list would come in handy. One were the user could add whatever site they chose to put into it. If not a white-list, at least being able to click on the icon to pause the extension when needed. With that being said, this extension is the best I've found to stop the idiots who insisted on playing their useless videos. But... they can't make any money if the video doesn't get to play ads! Oh, those poor website owners!!!
Установил в браузер Slimjet да основе Chromium от надоедливых видео в Яндексе, помогло, блокирует!
works
Hi there Thanks for creating this extension. But you need to allow people to remove the whitelist for youtube. Recently, some websites have embedded youtube videos and turned on the <autoplay> tag.
Doesn't work.
This app works. It stops the autoplay even on Twitch. I would have loved it and given it 5 stars if you could disable the extra task of clicking the red box that said 'click here to play the video' Just disabling the autoplay is good enough.
worked!
Blocks ALL plays, not just autoplay.
Makes videos I _want_ to view more difficult, but does not stop videos I DON'T want, such as on Newsweek just now.
Not works on any site Nie dziala nawet dla onet.pl
Working for me,thanks robert.
i do appreciate the effort put into creating this very much. however for me it did not work. tested on several sites last being the huffington post but no change. again i appreciate the effort but as said it just doesn't work on those sites i needed it to.
It works on some sites, not on others.
Sorry to say...it didn't work.
Does not work
It stopped Fox news vid from opening like they do BUT there is no "red button" (banner) to allow the vid to run. thus a 2 1/2 for 1/2 good. Jim EDIT: My goof. I had the popup blocker installed tho it did not work as needed. But it did work on this addon to stop the red button banner. once that addon was unistalled the red showed up. 5 stars so far. Jim
None of the autoplay extensions I've tried including this one stops video autoplay. I'm not sure why. I have autoplay turned off in my Chrome browser and turned off in YouTube, plus this extension. And none of them is stopping autoplay.
This does nothing on my Google Chrome - nothing. When you click on the icon it brings up the developers page in Linkedin. Everything plays, even pop-ups!
Does nothing. Options menu item grayed out after fresh install? Useless.
Doesn't work. www.omaha.com auto plays immediately upon loading the home page.
I go to a lot of different news sites and they auto-play videos, even UNRELATED to the news content--this app did NOTHING to allow me to block those videos
Doesn't work on YouTube.
It did not work on most sites. It worked on so few that it was a dabate on wheter it deserved one or two stars
Not good. Will not allow some videos to play. Also sites still found ways through. Still waiting for a proper blocker.
Works extremely well. I've ready some other slightly negative reviews and for my personal usage, I've never experienced what they have. It's worked flawlessly from my experience, so well in fact, that it even blocks my Google Photos videos (ones I've saved) from auto-playing. YMMV, but it's worked as-designed for me.
Worthless.....
Huffington Post has found a way to go around the blocker. Also needs a whitelist (or add more video content sites to the built in white list NetFlix, Amazon, Hulu, NBC, ABC, CBS, Comcast, DirecTV, etc.)
Doesn't work well with every site. Would definitely benefit from a whitelist.
It worked - perfectly. Good job in solving real world's problem. White list is a good candidate!
Doesn't work on CNN.com
Does not work at Huffpo
Holy cow! Finally one that works! So far, at least. But really, the dearth of solutions out there is shocking. These browsers are open source. There should be many more extensions allowing us to avoid all the unwanted ads. It's not just all ads, but any auto-start video. Videos should start when the USER decides. Thankfully, some are helping out.
Does not work. Thehill.com http://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/358396-tax-bill-will-not-seek-repeal-of-individual-health-insurance-mandate
seems to work with most content
In the extensions drop down menu it really needs a way to whack a button and add the current site to the whitelist. On some sites it does not properly display the button over the video to play it, and on some sites I just want them whitelisted. A simple button to add to the whitelist would solve both of those issues.
Would be perfect if I could white-list sites like Netflix.
Doesn't stop the autoplay video ads before the autoplay video. What's the point...
Doesn't work on CNN
it works. others don't. end of story
Does what I wanted, and it was free. Win/win! Thank you.
This helps, but does not always work. One example is this autoplay in USA Today: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2017/09/28/huge-rock-fall-kills-1-injures-1-yosemites-el-capitan/711402001/ I applaud the effort and hope it continues to evolve, including the whitelist feature.
НЕ РАБОТАЕТ
One that actually works!
Perfect !
I need something reliable. CNN autoplays.
Would be nice to be able to toggle it/ on-off switch so to be able to disable it when you want to watch video on certain sites.
not work
It doesn't stop the auto-play video at http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/15/politics/trump-charlottesville-delay/index.html.
NAILED IT! Tried four others and they failed to block a certain newspaper's video autoplay. Why a NEWSPAPER is doing video is weird anyway, right? WORKS. Well done.
As far as I can tell, this extension doesn't work. Tried it on the first news article I could find and the video still autoplayed: http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/08/09/how-did-air-canada-cockpit-voice-recorder-data-get-erased-after-sfo-close-call/
This works great, but it SERIOUSLY needs a way for users to add sites to a white list. If there is a white list, I cant find it.
not woring on Fox News videos
failed to stop floating video pop outs
Loaded it 7/17 to Block HuffPo from blasting me every time I look. Worked first time. Never after.
it dont works
it works! i dont have to pay more for my cellular data for videos i dont wish to watch. Thanks Robert Sulkowski
doesn't work. you suck.
Doesn't block autoplay very well, and the "CLICK HERE TO PLAY" covers up text on the webpage.
best plugin available!
Installed for a few weeks and it has blocked 99% of the video ads that autoplay, thus far. Happy with the results and hope it continues.
really was annoying me. does the job, so far. but def could use a whitelist.
cnbc.com drove me to find this, but went back, reloaded it, and STILL a video played! Don't know if they use html or flash. Either way, I want it stopped!
give option to whitelist certain sites
Does not seem to work on cnn :(
Add a whitelist for a higher rating.
Worked for a couple websites but failed on most.
This app is useful for blocking really annoying ads on sites like Forbes. The downside is it also blocks sites like Netflix. It's a simple click to play the video, but adding a whitelist feature would be a huge improvement, as there's no good reason to block video on a site that solely exists to stream video. Add the whitelist feature & it will be perfect.
Works great! After installation, immediately went to test it on a few news sites that are notorious for autoplay. So glad this works as it's super annoying to be startled by the side videos. Keep up the great work!
Does not appear to work on my test site video tag still plays..
Added this after another well known HTML 5 Autoplay blocker stopped working well. This extension is doing what I need it to do so far, which is to keep HTML 5 videos from starting automatically. The bright red banner that you have to click to allow the video to play is a nice feature. I wish it had some customization options like site-wide exceptions, but that's a minor quibble considering that I would only use such a feature on one or two sites.
Got this installed just to stop the annoying CNN videos. They still played.
Straight up doesn't work
Working well for me. When I visit news sites that try to autoplay videos, they are now blocked and can be played when wanted.
I gave this extension a try, to block videos in ads from autoplaying. Problem seems to be that although it does prevent the videos in ads from autoplaying, when I open a webpage containing an ad with a video, the extension "autoscrolls" the screen to the ad (possibly to display the red "Click here to play the video" banner) and the extension doesn't seem to let me scroll away from the ad. When I try to scroll away to see the non-ad portion of the webpage, the screen just autoscrolls right back again to the ad containing the video. Had to disable the extension in order to disable the inability to scroll away from the ads...
Works as advertised!
CNN.com videos still play.
Blockt die nervigen Videos auf Chip.de.. Genau DAS habe gesucht. Perfekt ***** Thank you Robert! :-)
works as advertised... amen
Removing from Chrome - it did not work AT ALL for me. Opened a bunch of youtube links and every one started playing. Yes, Flash was disabled. Sorry.
Totally did not work at all with wcvb site which lists news items and starts video play when you scroll down. Also, dev's contact site "brainusers.com" redirects to his linkedin page, useless for communications. http://www.wcvb.com/article/girl-scout-sells-more-than-15k-cookie-boxes-after-writing-brutally-honest-cookie-review/8657639 <script type="application/ld+json" id="json-ld">{ "@context": "http:\/\/schema.org", "url": "http:\/\/www.wcvb.com\/article\/passengers-escape-serious-injury-after-truck-crashes-into-bus\/8647475", "@type": "CreativeWork", "video": { "@type": "VideoObject", "url": "http:\/\/www.wcvb.com\/article\/passengers-escape-serious-injury-after-truck-crashes-into-bus\/8647475", "width": 1920, "height": 1080, "duration": 72 }, "thumbnail": { "@type": "ImageObject", "url": "https:\/\/hips.hearstapps.com\/vidthumb\/353425fb-ceac-4245-a5d7-7bae3de2d4fe\/thumb_192x108_00002_1485573381_9753.png", "width": 1920, "height": 1080, "caption": "Truck smashes into the side of a bus." }, "name": "Passengers escape serious injury after truck crashes into bus", "headline": "Passengers escape serious injury after truck crashes into bus", "datePublished": "2017-01-27T19:56:00Z", "dateModified": "2017-01-30T17:32:51.175421Z", "author": { "@type": "Person", "name": "Dan Stefano" }, "publisher": { "@type": "Organization", "name": "WCVB", "logo": { "@type": "ImageObject", "url": "https:\/\/htv-prod-media.s3.amazonaws.com\/htv_default_image\/wcvb\/logo.png" } } }</script>
No options and blocks Netflix. Still have problems with si.com and foxsports.com video and audio. extension is almost useless.
Worked fine for Yahoo finance to stop the annoying videos. Wish it to work with youtube also. Thanks for making this blocker and sharing it with us Robert!
Doesn't work in Chrome v53. Lots of sites still display ads via the HTML <video autoplay loop> element.
It works well but for one thing. If I wait longer than ~15 seconds to click play, it only plays the first 15 seconds or so, then hangs. Have to refresh the page and start video over again in order to watch the whole thing, this time clicking play early on. Doesn't happen every time so it's tough to find what triggers that. So it is great for blocking the video if you don't later want to play it.
Seems to work okay - I like the red bar that lets you play the video.
Installed another autoplay blocker and couldn't play Netflix and couldn't give Netflix.com permission. This one is solving my problem. However it will not stop ESPN's auto-audio. Gah.
