Very good
Installing and using the extension for the first time gives a bad impression by doing some dubious security scan to sell you a subscription. From an effectiveness standpoint, it didn't flag newer phishing sites that I tested it again other than noting there was no information. I suppose that's the idea in terms of judging by community reputation, but just because a site doesn't get a red or yellow icon doesn't mean it's safe. Also, the community reputation model can breakdown when the rated site is controversial such as those belonging to political figures. For example, one website I checked of a sitting elected official was marked as 18+ and gruesome. The site was just fine but it seems opposition partisans wanted to make it look bad.
Very useful <3 But very sad to see its now getting paid :(
Never rely on 1 thing. Always be skeptical and always hesitate to click on new websites. As with everything, there are new Phishing websites published several times a day. No single service will let you know about all of them. WOT is no exception. However, the more programs you have to warn you about KNOWN websites, the better off you will be. WOT is a good service for helping people remember that not all websites are good.
Great extension. Only problem is a lot of features are behind a paywall.
It was great
good
What happened? This used to be simple, to the point, and stayed outta your way. Was there a corporate buyout or something because now profiteering seems to be front and centre at the expense of user experience. The moment the extension is installed you're brought to a permissions screen for information collecting, followed buy a fake "scan of your system" all to advertise their new paid subscription models offering extra "security" features you don't need. If you wanna advertise, be upfront about it. Give the person the choice from the get-go. These advertising tactics are tacky and a major turnoff from the product. Keeping it around for now while I consider better alternatives as it still seems to function as it always has done otherwise.
Been using this extension for years. Love it.
I installed it and went to a site that I KNOW is a scam, but this extension didn't appear to have any info on it. It just said that it's an unknown site because it had zero (internal) reviews. It appears the extension makes a judgement on whether or not its a scam site only if users leave reviews of their own?? in other words, users (like myself) have to sign in to the extension and write a review on that questionable site. That's like the extension asking US if it's a scam site! User generated content was not what I was expecting or hoping for.
Love this App keeps me and my computer safe from all those evils out there! It stops me from going in to bad sites and much more. Everyone should have this app. I have it also one my Cell phone!
Ad blocking is great, but there are click bate sites that will never prevent. Being able to rate every website is a blessing. I wish WOT was built into every browser.
i love this app this is just amazing and very useful
This Site "Wot" Has Reviews and All of them are just Fake ,, Imagine a Spam site rating others ! Hahahah
when i format a computer, i install this extension right after i install chrome.. it makes me feel "the world is all safer now".. so, thank you..
A very good and useful extension. There is a little problem though. When the web page is zoomed then the sidebar comes out of the screen frame.
I find wot very useful. There is an ongoing effort by those who abuse WOT to fake reviews. this also gives security to my website https://healthylifehuman.com/ my site is completely secure with WOT Website Security
I went to a known scam/phishing website but the extension simply said "no enough information"
Can you add additional features of highlighting some words which user wants to avoid & something to prevent clickjacking? Quora com profile Harsh-Entrepreneur
I'm an overprotective person about my data, that's why I'm not blindly belive WOT in starting but after experience it, have to say it's 100% secured extension. All the online security you need to protect against the most harmful website.
it used to be useful, but now it bugs you about buying CONSTANTLY it has gone from useful to stressful - I don't get it. it is really the lowest and sleaziest tactic to give security warnings which only turn out to be "buy our stuff" here is an example: Live protection HIGH RISK Anti-Phishing Advanced Protection ACTIVE RISK Email Live Protection ACTIVE RISK 3 Active threats put you at risk, should we take care of that?
I really like this extension. Provides very thorough and accurate information about the safety of a website and because of the field of DS hacking I like to explore, has probably saved me from getting viruses a few times.
One awesome extension, just a must have.
Great program! Surfing the web is getting more and more dangerous and this is a great additional security measure to feel a little bit safer.
A Must because you rate the sites you visit and you see the ratings of others. If you have had a bad experience with a site give it a red so others dont use it, If the site is good then give it a green.
I have liked this for a long time, however as of a recent update it's become invasive. I'm constantly barraged by "PLEASE PIN THE EXENTSION" non-sense even after I did pin it. Super annoying, I'm ready to uninstall at this point.
WOT is still almost as useful as in the past in detecting scam sites though things are more complicated since it introduced a paid version. Now you must stay logged-in every time you want to post a review. So, a star less.
Excellent Web Security. When visiting a link posted somewhere and you're redirected to it a major red flag shows up and WOT marks it as suspicious website without you proceeding to it. 5/5
This extension gave excellent experience. It protect me from online threats, scams and dangerous sites. Whenever there's a dangerous, it pops a warning and the helps me a lot. It also block inappropriate content for my younger siblings.
I BOUGHT wto TO STOP ADS
Unobtrusive and effective - lets me know the ratings of most websites. I like it a lot!!!
klass
i installed it cause i was brouth to shockgore.com dont search it up unless u can handle gore children dont do this pls dont. im sueing this website though. like i got 5 viruses and this extention killed them all and my child is now in a therapest and so is my daughter cause of what they saw. I fisucly can not handle this. Just thx WOT i appreciate it alot.
Nice extension with all of the scam sites .Their not going anywhere soon so keep up the great work.
well, as I was saying since I get to know this app it helps me a lot even though I'm just using it other uses but if ever I go global only then I would have the opportunity to go further and I don't regret it, and any time or day i get the chance or green light i would jump to it!
very very good !!
Used to be more useful than inaccurate, but now they're pulling scummy hard sell misleading and disruptive ads. For me the minor benefit it added has now been destroyed by the intrusive ads and scummy up sell tactics. Not worth it.
Used to be good, even if it was a bit spotty and reliable. Recent updates, however, have seen it cause spam popups and request that you install malicious additional software in exactly the same ways as the duplicitous people and websites it claims to protect against. Avoid this extension.
it is good for providing an additional layer of protection and giving you a heads up that a website may not be reputable, but the excessive pop ups trying to push their paid service offsets anything i like about it...
I cant trust them after i found out they have been selling user data. and now i got a popup about getting a paid Premium version just when im about to make a payment, feels extremely fishy. high time to uninstall.
Was one of my default plugins, and I was happy to share my data and contribute when it was free (though for a while I no longer see the point in having it). I didn't mind it when more features were added under a paywall, but now that I'm getting multiple ads to upgrade, it got really, really annoying.
I find wot very useful. There is an ongoing effort by those who abuse WOT to fake reviews. More effort has to be put into identifying and dissuading fraudsters. The fraudsters are faking bad their reviews, so efforts must be put into identifying the fraudsters and fake reviewers of WOT.
Latest patch keeps telling me that my email is at risk and wants me to buy, and it does it over and over and there is no way to disable the invasive nag alert My email is not at risk it just wants me to pay for the pro version Full of pop ads, its a very intrusive app now, im planning on deleting it
"Your action might lead to a data breach" on steamcommunity . com seriously? Yeah, that's definitely what I want to see on a popular trusted site. You are annoying with your intrusive advertising. It does NOT encourage a purchase, it has the opposite effect
I used this for many years without a problem, but now WOT is *itself* acting like malware. I'm *regularly* greeted with pop ups from WOT asking me to spend money on upgraded versions of WOT.
Started to showing me pop-ups a week or two ago, very annoying
I used to like web of trust a lot but it has gotten way too spamy these days with constant popups asking you to upgrade
Very useful tool
The repeated notifications reporting that my data may have been taken a breach and that I should give them money to protect myself pretty much ruined it. Used this for years and years, but with the false positives and now advertisements, I'm not really sure I trust it to do its job and I certainly don't trust it to accurately identify threats.
This "ad blocker" was supposed to block ads on the sites that I wanted to go to, but it didn't. I went to sites it trusted, and ones it didn't. It didn't block any ads, in fact, I think I got more ads then if I didn't use it. all-in-all, it freakin' sucks. don't use it.
Ads! WOT ads are drawing over hulu and other browser windows, and can't be dismissed. Had to uninstall.
скатились в тупую рекламу удоляю нахой
Using it for more than 5 years!
When you click on the icon, the extension pop-up is just LOADING and LOADING forever. 4.0.14.2.
Truly the best I have ever used. The reveiws help a lot
I've used this extension for years but as of late, it's been using all my cpu and slowing the browser to the point I had to remove it. I don't recommend getting it until they fix the bugs.
Suddenly have to repeatedly reload this extension. Done. Uninstalling.
Awesome!!???
I am confident that I would be alerted to sites I was going to go to.
I used this for a long time and loved it, but for a while now it's been bringing chrome to an absolute crawl. I hope they fix it in the future, but for now I can't use it.
Very Nice and useful
I've been using Web of Trust for many years. It seems to work just fine. I especially find the color coding system helpful. Thanks, folks. --Ala
very useful
"Disable WOT assistant" can't be done because "unlock premium features" menu is overlaying the options abd there's no way to hide that promo.
WOT was fine for while, worked as advertised and I could live with the rating ring you'd see on links as it's kind of the point. However, the latest update decided to add the "WOT slider" on the right side that I doubt anyone asked for or wants. It's invasive and I didn't ask for an obnoxious icon overlaid on every site. There may be a way to remove it but I couldn't find it in the extension settings which means you either can't or they purposely hid it to make it hard.
we help more than 6 years grow up this extension now after they created big database with our work, we must pay for own work sham on you
I've been using the WOT extension with every browser for many years. Adds another layer of protection.
I have been using this extension all these years but recently it's making chrome very slow.
Careful! This extension cause my CPU to spike very high when browsing. sometimes to 100% usage. Make sure to monitor your CPU usage after installing.
I have used WOT for many years. I have recently noticed that Chrome was being unusually slow. After trial and error trying to figure out if any extensions were causing the issue, I discovered that it was indeed WOT that was affecting the performance. It must have been a recent update that is affecting it as it has never done this before. I will have to uninstall the extension for now until performance issues are fixed.
Found virus file from website but WOT says it is a trusted site with score 4.7
There's some serious performance issue. Lately, I noticed every site taking longer to load, often over 10 seconds! Finally found the culprit - when loading a page, this extension was using more CPU than every other chrome process together. What the hell, completely unacceptable.
good
I am using this extention over 5 years. It is very helpful to surfing online.
So far the last month my browser kinda struggled with loading websites. Downloading images took so long. But it wasn't a matter of the ISP - ping to websites worked fine, download speed of files was also great, VPN to work was also fine. Using another browser...was also fine. Then I realized it's a problem with Chrome. Deleted cache and the issue remained. Cancelled all extensions and the problem was fixed. Then I started enabling them one by one, trying to figure out which extension caused it And yes, it was WOT. I tried reinstalling it and it seems like it was fixed..but a few minutes later the problem returned. Uninstalled it forever now
very useful extension for user like me who wish to be alert before browsing new website
It's very informative and helpful, but many sites does not have a rating still. maybe in the future it will be much better.
The extension seems to inject a code into the HTML source, which results in somethings like: ``` </head><span id="warning-container"><i data-reactroot=""></i></span> <body> ``` Which is not valid HTML. As a result, the relevant HTML page may go wrong by checker, possibly accessibility tools, etc.
Straight to scan then spams you with paying for literally nothing.
Very trustful extension ! In my opinion a must have , in our technology era with new upcoming cyber threats and harmful domains . WOT handels them pretty good and as good as it already is , the people can even make differences and help unknown harmful domains get recognized . Its a really really user friendly ext . MUST HAVE
Spamming payment popups
This tools make chrome very slow and heavy CPU loading. For solve this problem and keep your privacy you should change setting as below =============== Change the setting Allow this extension to access and change all of the information you have left on the website you visit:When clicked on a particular website on every website =============== Choose "When clicked"
Technically a very good idea, but let me tell you something this extension will make EVERYTHING A LOT SLOWER, you will very likely see each google search need +5 seconds each time you search something, every video will start buffering even with good internet connection, I was already complaining to my internet provider because I thought something is weird, and after all the research it was this app.
Their support service is super helpful! Good tool to monitor website's trustworthiness.
GET RID OF THE WOT SPAM POP-UPS
Uninstalling because now they have taken the most basic of what I use it for as an upgrade. On to the next.
This used to be a good extension for browsing the internet but it's obviously changed. Now it has more in common with adware than it does with the original extension. It won't stop generating popups on gmail to buy the premium service, with no way to turn the pop-ups off. That was the final straw for me to get rid of the extension, but I think the warning signs started earlier. On install it basically threatens you to turn on data sharing and buying the premium service. This extension was a staple for my browsers for the past 15 years and it's sad for it to have finally got to a point where I have to remove it as though it was a virus, but times change.
This app was really good until you guys decided to spam with ads. Popping up every time I open gmail won't make me buy anything.
the app nagged me to review so i did Also i dislike alot of times it's nagging me to buy premiuim! in my opinion it's pointless and probably u will uninstall
Gave you 5 stars before, which I now changed to 1 star, and only because of your dumb marketing tactics. Who do you think enjoys getting spammed by "your Gmail security is at risk"? This is a really desperate move, that probably does you more harm than good. I kinda lost my trust in you and consider uninstalling. We had a good 5 year run! :)
Used to be good but adding ads to websites isn't cool with me.
The upselling popup ads every time I open Gmail are a dealbreaker.
I was a middle schooler when I started using WOT so I've been a longtime user at this point. It was great for seeing which websites were good and bad in the most simplest way possible. However, these days, the icon just sits gray oftentimes and occasionally the ratings are wrong. Like for example, it marked all Google Forms short links as "Potentially dangerous" and gave all orange ratings. Likely all because of a few bad apples. Recently, they also started paywalling this extension. I could ignore the payment part, but the nail in the coffin was when I started seeing a popup every time I went to Gmail saying "I'm not protected" and then clicking the fix button sends me to a payment page. It kinda sucks that this extension isn't really useful anymore/pretty much paywalled.
I like this extension, it's been doing his job. I'll give it a 5-star rating if someone educates me how to remove that stupid popup I automatically get whenever I open my GMail inbox, urging me to upgrade to protect my GMail account I will not upgrade no matter how many of the popups I get, as the basic version is enough for me - the only thing these popups do to me is making me more and more angry. It is simply annoying. Please, allow me to stop it.
This used to be a helpful extension but now they have added a obtrusive popup to get you to pay for a subscription everytime gmail is loaded.
Started bugging with warnings me to protect gmail for $5/month. Really?
Used it for more than 10 years but now everytime I visit gmail it spams me with notification to upgrade to premium version, selecting remind me later still gives me the spam notification next time gmail is opened, WOT is basically begging to the be uninstalled, your wish is granted, uninstalled after 10 years not interested in your premiums and spams.
Unremovable popup ads from this extension shows up everyday I open my gmail. I suppose gathering free user's privacy data is not enough for ur company, so u have to squeeze more value from free user
Used this extension for as long as I can remember and suddenly today every time I opened my email it tried to sell me an upgrade to protect my email. I was fine with them going paid for extra, but it was not in my face. Long-time user is now gone.
Useful extension I've had for many years, unfortunately I had to remove it due to unblockable pop ups when opening Gmail
WOT used to be reliable. Now, their business model has changed so that the decision makers think it is a good thing to pop up an annoying appeal to upgrade EVERYTIME a user opens GMAIL, even though WOT rates GMAIL to be safe. CCLEANER does this occasionally, but NOT EVERYTIME!!!!! I'm very close to uninstalling WOT since it is no longer a background extension. Greed will be your downfall.
The forced ads are a deal breaker. I've used and recommended this extension for over a decade, but I'm uninstalling. Sorry!
Had WOT for years. Then, suddenly, it starts showing ads for their upgraded features overlaying on websites? NO FREAKING WAY! GTFO.
I always supported this app and I have been recommending it to others for years. However, the app now has pop ups every time i log into gmail and they are non-removable unless you pay for the premium features. It is not acceptable and I will delete this extension if it is not fixed promptly. There are enough pop ups on the internet as it is and this is something that WOT is suppose to protect us from in the first place.
I HATE this. It doesn't even do it's job. I understand you need money, but freaking into thinking I have a virus for a PAY SCREEN TO POP UP is not it. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS. Also doesn't let you check suspicious links for malware w/o paying, what kind of cruddy pay window is this? You are an antivirus, you shouldn't tell me to pay for your overpriced and cruddy premium EVERY SECOND OF MY DAY. I would give you 0 stars if I could, but I can't. 1 star is an overstatement of how awful this program is. Will never be installing again. 0/10.
its very powerful
Doesnt work apart from google and bing and even on bing, it doesnt show it logo when first installed. Plus under Privacy practices, collection of web history but not selling it, is kinda fishy for me for a service I trusted for many years. Learn from adguard and ublock origin Privacy practices. If you are just google all the time guy, then this is for you because I use privacy based search engines and that is where this doesnt work. Plus their android app is nothing close to what their chrome addon is.
Good, but one major issue: This WOT extension MAKES FACEBOOK SLOW TO A CRAWL when scrolling down the feed. Seriously, go try it right now; install the extension, and scroll down a few dozen posts -- everything will be super slow and you'll barely be able to even click anything. Disable the extension, refresh, and do the same thing, and everything is fast as you'd expect. PLEASE FIX!
The extension has seen better days. It still offers some decent warnings but it is not up to date. I used to be able to review a site, flag as a phishing site, and immediately would be given a warning if I tested it again. Now days go by and phishing sites I reviewed are still marked as green and safe. I recognize this is the free version but still, it used to work better than it does now (I am writing this in March 2021)
