Still fetched the video on background, doesnt really serve its purpose.

I call BS. Extension is simply placing a static image over the video. Video is still being processed in the background.

Somehow my data consumption was bigger with this installed. Wish I had the other 1-star reviews before install to find out why...

Worked for a few days, now the video does play while the "audio only" overlay is also visible. So it doesn't work...

Working beautifully on Chrome 108.0.5359.95 (Official Build) (64-bit) and Brave Chromium to 108.0.5359.94. I haven't run any A/B tests to determine how much bandwidth I'm saving by running audio only, but it must a massive. This addon is essential for saving mucho data on my fixed limit wireless data plan, especially watching the plethora of talking head videos. Is there any way you guys can program this tow work with Bitchute and then Rumble? That would be awesome.

It is a very useful extension and does what it says, i.e. play only youtube audio. My only complaint is that the video takes more time to load as compared to when I am not using the extension. I assumed it would be faster without the video part loading.

Fake It only displays the cover photo, and the video is still being streamed in the background and consuming bandwidth.

Added the extension and it did do audio only while it showed the thumbnail. However, once I uninstalled the extension, youtube was still audio only, and I can't figure out how to get it to play video again.

Uses more data with this extension enabled!

It generally works but for some reason it always starts u from the beginning when you go into audio only mode, which is just annoying. It also doesn't seem to work with volume boosting extension. If these aren't important to you, works great.

It works as expected but its icon on the toolbar is small, it needs to bigger.

it's great, but when there's an ad in the middle of the vid it starts it over rather than continuing please fix this.

Pretty good but the unfortunate aspect of it is that sometimes (if not regularly) if an advert plays it sends the video back to the start :/ Is there a chance you could look into this please?

Really enjoyed it but looks like youtube music now makes you upgrade to watch audio only and ever since this option has appeared the extension no longer works. Videos play regardless of whether this is toggled on or off :(

Love the extension, works perfectly for me.

It works as intended. However, it seems to have incompatibilities with YouTube's playback speed feature. Without the extension, whatever playback speed I have for the current video in a playlist carries over to the next video that plays. Eg. If I'm listening to a podcast episode at 1.5x, the next podcast episode still plays at 1.5x. With the extension, though it displays the supposed playback speed from the current video, it reverts into normal speed when the next video plays. This issue aside, it does the job.

I'm still not sure how it works, I think the video loads but just don't show up => makes the extension worthless

when this extension is on it repeat on song without changing song, it change every thing (name of song, recomenned songs, like dislike, views etc but that song play in repeat mode .

Greatly reduces CPU usage from Chrome while playing games and videos simultaneously.

All it does is hide the video, the video file is still downloaded in background eating same amount of data as without this extension unlike the developers claim "enables you to disable only video on youtube which saves internet usage more than 50% when you want to listen songs on youtube"

Does exactly what it says it does. No complaints.

It doesn't work with livestreams

When ads shows up, and i click skip ads, the video will be restart at the beginning of the video. can you fix it ?

I've been going crazy about background music eating up all my CPU. This fixes perfectly!

Fake, this doesn't save data as it loads the video but only hides it. Worst, as it loads the video and hides the player, you can't choose the low quality to save data os its uses even more data when it randomly choses HD quality without you knowing.

This extension is legit (you can measure data and see a difference) However there is a minor issue: Sometimes when you open videos, the buffering and data taken are the same as if a video is opened, but the screen is still black. If you refresh once or twice, the buffering bar goes a very long way (indicating it's streaming audio only). If this issue would be fixed this app would be perfect 5/5.

An 'ok' extension but with same issue a lot of others have with looping. This is ver 0.9. It plays the same song over and over while music.youtube.com continues to the next song in my library list. Have to click NEXT multiple times to go to next song. Fix this and you might have something usfull. Not worth it for this version.

good extension, the main annoying thing though is that when you switch in between audio and video while watching a video it restarts from the beginning and you have to go back to where you were

I really wanted to use this for lofi live streams, but it doesn't work for those. Only for videos, not for livestreams.

Why the hell you wanna read our browser history?

This is stupid. Doesn't work at all. If you hover your mouse over the Playback Timeline (the horizontal red/grey bar), you will see that the video is actually loaded in 144p. Well, you know what, everyone knows how to play a video in 144p from settings.

Works like a charm.

The extension does solves a real problem very effciently. There must be an option like "to enable it all time" or "to ask everytime" or something like that.

it worked when I just got it, after a few days there seems to be a bug with it. What it does is it works for the first 10 seconds of the video, then it buffers, then the video is now playing instead of doing its purpose. please fix this bug

It does seem to be very nice. Works quite well. I would like support for music.youtube.com to be added as the Progressive Web App version for Win does not seem to support/show any options for video playback.

This perfectly satisfies my desire to save on bandwidth and electricity -- keep greener without a lot of hassle! I do love it. As others have mentioned there's the little usability quirk of the extensions "on/off" setting applying to all tabs of a window as well as having to reload the page after changing from off to on and vice versa. Note: multiple chrome windows do not share the same on/off state. Personally, I use youtube for listening to music way more often than to watch videos. Whenever i want to watch a video I copy the URL, open chome in private mode and paste the URL. This is done using a few key strokes: - CTRL+L (focus on address bar and select contents) - CTRL+C (copy to clipboard) - CTRL+SHIFT+N (open a chrome window in private mode, address bar is selected by default) - CTRL+V (paste from clipboard) - Enter

it's fake, it only prevents display, it doesn't make youtube transfer audio only!

Pretty good. Would be cool to disable thumnails of recommended vidoes (basically all images) as well, as thats a fairly significant portion of data too.

I would have rated it 5 if it keeps my speed setting. If I'm playing a playlist, the next video plays in normal speed.

Though externally it looks awesome and we can assume that it actually saves data but I think it's not because if this extension totally works as the whole concept of saving bandwidth data then it should not be show any difference when we manually change the video quality...it should load faster than even a 144p quality but it's not if you change the quality to 4k then u can see a long time loading screen than usual so it is using the same bandwidth data ...what it does it just don't show the video but nothing more ...and I don't think anyone would like it because we can let the 144p video continue in an another tab ...that was not a satisfactory result so far... i played music with 144p before adding this extension it have been worked but with this extension some time it says loading, i don't know why this extension should reduce video size

Simple and handful!

I just ran a test to see if this extension actually saves bandwidth using https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THgYJcfGii4 as the video (lots of video motion / relatively high bitrate audio probably). [Used DevTools network monitor on Chrome aka F12] 1080p video & audio: ~14mb fully buffered 1080p audio only: ~3mb fully buffered When you load a video on Youtube with 1080p it does actually have higher bitrate audio last time I checked. This is extension is useful to load the highest quality audio without the need to waste bandwidth on the video. It works pretty well for my needs so 5/5.

Too much bugs, lots of refreshes. need an extra step to save more of your data, that is lowering the video resolution which I find very exhausting because: first you have to wait for the page to reload (the video also need to re-load) from activating the extension then switching the video resolution and THEN wait for another reload (another video reload). This is not only tiring but also cost a lot of data from all of the reloads above.

buggy software, if you're playing a playlist it simply jumps and doesn't play songs in between. Please fix this basic problems

It's glorious. It works perfectly as expected, giving you the option to show nothing or the video thumbnail. I personally prefer nothing. Con: Chrome freezes every so often because of this extension, I know that because the first frame of the video shows up, then the browzer just dozes off. Can change the review to a 5 star if this gets fixed! Thank U though, it works just fine apart from that!

Just downloaded the extension but has been something I've been looking for a long time! This allows me to listen to music while working on various things on my inexpensive computer without worrying about the YouTube video eating up graphic processing, especially when new videos start playing at higher resolutions. After being a developer for 3 years, I can say that this works. Although, it does not block 100% of the video requests, with the extension on it uses 3MB for a 10 minute video. But modifying the request handler to block all video requests it uses 350KB, almost 10x less! Plus the audio loads much faster as no video is processed. Please add the following code to save more data! Unfortunately, the first video part must load, so this does not work when loading a new video. (This does not work without the extension enabled, it needs to hook into YouTube/Video API. This method will not work for Twitch as they use a combined video/audio format, YouTube is special).
