There's no UI way on the screen or by right click option to start this. So the engine might be there, but you can't get it going. The doco is poor too, so you can't find out how its meant to be used

Works Great if you prefer Windows 10 browser over chrome. Chrome already has it available for extensions like Checker plus for calendar and its cousin for Gmail, but now i was able to apply this and have the option available for windows. Tips hat at devs !

installed this extension after downloading read aloud extension because they offered it as a fix for it pausing all the time. But this one also stops after each paragraph
The voice is okay, but every time I use it with the read aloud extension, she restarts when paused.
The whole thing just crashed this sucks
Finally found Talker: text-to-speech, many languages. More useful than that(English, US, Female).
For anyone wondering what this extension does, it is not an TTS application. It only provides a text-to-speech voice, which can be used by other TTS applications to synthesize speech. For example, if you use the excellent TTS app called "Read Aloud", after you install this Google extension, a new voice named "US English Female TTS (by Google)" will appear in the Read Aloud options. The cool thing is this voice will work even offline when you don't have internet.
ops!!! I got it, please care that after installation of this you will be able to access Text-to-speech's engine not directly but by means of other extensions such as TTSReaderX In-Page.
Finally got it to work with TTSReaderX In-Page Text to Speech (appears as English, US, Female). Removed and reinstalled, refreshed page I was attempting to use TTS on.

It does work, pair it with the "speak it" extension and then your able to use the us english female. I found the best setting for me is x-1 ~ 300 words/minute, as she doesn't read to fast.

It was OK. Big change to Speechpad that does not work. Came back & lowered rating what this replaced worked. Don't even know how I ended up with this. :(

It worked once after installment,then not again and the options choice not available, please make it simpler as it was a very good Voice production

Here is how to use - US English Female Text-to-speech (by Google) US English Female Text-to-speech (by Google) is a offline text to speech engine, meaning it does not need active internet connection to work. Downside is it is just backend, no UI. After you download and install it. It itself downloads voice files of ~55 MB, they are needed to work offline. So you cannot use it immediately. Progress of that download can be seen in 'background page' of the extension can be viewed in Extensions page. To use this you will need a frontend like - Chrome Speak or ChromeVox, or even SpeakIt! You will need to go to the options page of your selected extension and change the Voice/Text to Speech Engine to this one and then you can actually use the extension.

Not useful as it cannot be used independently. Google should not be so obscure about this and attach it to an app that IS useful.
I use this with the chromevox screenreader; it works fairly well and has a clear sound quality. There are a few quarks here and there in pronunciation, but that's life.
Can you make the voice.. I don't know, may be human..

TO all people who did not get it to work! : This is just the "voice" , You have to install a Text To speech engine to use it. Search google Market and install a Text to Speech app then choose this Voice as the default. Hope this helps! The only thing I find annoying is that it tries to read abbreviations and words with mixed character sizes as a normal word!! Plus that it does not recognize foreign words and reads them as they are english! other than those minor problems, the words are clear and crisp and well separated! Thanks!

this program works really well it is as good as some voice to text that you would pay a lot of money for . it reads most files works very well. just load the file press the talk symbol to the top right of the browser and way you go that simple. 9/10 good

At first it worked. Really slow. Now it does not work, so other applications/extensions that depend on it also fail :-( Needs more work...

nice but should work with play books. i love the read aloud feature in the mobile app and want something similar in my chrome app.
Super nice voice. I use it a lot. I tried more than 20 different, this is the best voice in my view.

There seems to be some confusion about this in here, so let me try to shed some light. *** THIS IS NOT A STAND ALONE EXTENSION. *** Which means you'll need another extension to use it. I personally use it with "SpeakIt!", and it works very well. Although this isn't the most natural TTS I've heard yet, the fact it doesn't have to access a remote server to work makes it feel snappier.

Love it but like it was mentioned once it starts to recognize punctuation correctly it will get 5 stars.
This voice sounds good and has the potential but still needs some work... For example - it does not recognize the end of sentence punctuation marks such as ". ! ? ... ". This makes it really difficult to listen to when it reads texts and merges the sentences into some indistinguishable rumble. Please fix it! (though it does recognize comma) Thnks
I cannot make this add-on to work. It installs, then starts downloading voices and then when it has all, the notification pops up with info that extension did crashed. I thought Google would make better softwere... Update (7/6/2012): Thanks Fernando, now working great. (stars 1 -> 5)
Working now after update to 1.0.2 The voice quality is just ok. In my PC using SpeakIt! there is a lot of distortion in some basic words. Although this TTS is above average, iSpeech is still the best TTS.
I wish I could try this. It keeps redownloading the voice because it keeps crashing. I hear it get to 75% and then no further. My stars are unfair but I have no choice because I can't get it to work.
