Works well but it changes all colors to black as well. So I can't see highlighted text, colored bars, or anything but black and white.
I tested on GitHub and I can't see the paragraph. It's just bad.
Not working at all
Breaks pages even when turned off. Wasted hours of my time debugging the problem.
works
How does it still affect my browser after i remove it? What? Please help.
-1 star . needs a switch off for current tab, without entering all the url as there are any embedded url on sites and graphics , video get hidden as they not domain of current page/tab
I don't hate the idea in theory, but it is currently unusable, and I can't rate it higher than 1 star because of the following situations: 1. Doesn't work on many page; at all. 2. Works but makes the page half white and half dark. 3. Works, but takes a whole minute to darken the page. 4. Have to either turn the extension on and off, or reload the page.
Unfortunately, this new update causes parts of websites to become white. This makes me have to turn the extension on and off after every click to make each website completely dark. Additionally, websites are not as dark now as they were before this update. This extension was perfect before this update! Please fix
WHy is this launchpad thing on the side bar now? man please remove it how do i remove it
I can't use it because my browser says " We've identified this extension as malicious and have blacklisted it. This means it can no longer cause any damage to your machine. You can leave it as is, or remove it."
Messed up my text. Disappearing randomly. Otherwise it works great!
It is a excellent extension. One of the most needed extension for chrome user. Though I wish there was a way to add weather widget.
The Best of New Tabs I found Very Excellent Extension for new tab full of customization, love it
It's working, but on some web apps it just mess things up.
It's not working
Was changing my new tab necessary? removed this new tab hijacker.
i used lots of extension from chrome to apply dark mode on my all website but they will not to work properly . Finally I got this extension it's work properly on my all website and my all website look so pretty in dark mode. I loved it.
seems to work ok but has a conflict with (Custom New Tab URL) extension
Instant one click dark mode extension is what I have always been looking for. And this gives me exactly what I want. It doesn't give me the hassle of reloading the page or typing some shortcuts. I am fully satisfied with this product
It's not good drives me crazy cuz google logo/title/heading has been disappeared and replaced with this extension.
I like it, not my favorite, but works well for me. I skimmed through some of the recent reviews and saw one true hater, and a couple who commented how it used to work but doesn't anymore. Updates happen, and updates break stuff, and this is no different. To the hater, why the hell are you going to get this extension if you obviously don't want dark mode? Feel free to explain your ignorance if you want (I'll never read it). My only complaint about this, is how like with Google, when we click on a link, it doesn't change colors, fix that, and possibly more compatibility with more websites (I haven't tested this for long, but it's worked well on every site I've been on). Also, when I added a site to the exclusion list, it didn't automatically take effect, I may have to restart my browser for it to do so. But I love dark mode for all web pages, when you open a link and it's solid white, I literally get blinded. Which is why I periodically test these out, and, as my rating shows, I really like the idea of this extension, it's simple, and for me, it works well. This is my first review on any extension ever, which the highly critical response forced me to write this.
Jesus Christ, please tell me, us, literally anyone with a half a brain cell. Why the decision to override my new page settings, and enable this by default; to have me look at a webpage I not once ever entertained the thought of visiting every time I open a new tab, which is so often it could be a crime in itself for me. Regardless, do the right thing and revert this terrible idea and reclaim anything left that was held prior to this move that could only be compared to Germany's Operation Overlord.
it worked for a while, but from some weeks ago it not only stopped working, but messed up completely my start page (a permission I never gave, and that it never asked for at the time I installed). Disappointed
After a recent update (I guess) it is forcing me to change the new tab page. Therefore I'm uninstalling it. Otherwise it is a good extension and turns webpages dark instantly.
I've used this extension for as long as I can remember with no issues but with the latest "update" that applies it to the new tab page, it overwrites my Dashboard on brave browser with a completely new page that plasters the extension name and logo at the top of the screen along with, I assume, the developers suggested shortcuts. And when I turn this feature off under the extension settings, my new tab homepage comes up as a "page not found" error. The only way I've been able to get my Dashboard back is by disabling the extension altogether. Please fix this, I've loved this extension for years and I would hate to have to have to remove it just to get my browser to function as intended.
changes default search engine without permission
This takes over computer and is a malware! They put their logos on your Google homepage and take over your computer!!! Delete this Russian SpyWare off your computer now!
it changes my homepage. please make it so it can't
Doesn't work - there's absolutely no difference before and after applying this extension. Uninstalled.
Works fairly well. Adding sites to an exclude list isn't straight forward or quick but it's possible. My biggest gripe is that at some point they swapped by new tab home page to their own google rip. Big no-no points for that.
first i like this a lot but after the update dark theme for chrome that sucks i can't access that i already visited sites it's directly led me to search on google i hate this thing only .. if they din;t add this featue it would be awesome extension
New update is so confusing. It opens up its own site when opening a new tab which i cant change, chrome just gives me the option to disable the extension, I cant turn it on or off whenever i like. I just want the old update. it was so good. Why this update...?
I was pleased when the devs of this app finally fixed the bug where a tab would lose dark mode and assault my eyes with brightness every time my YouTube playlist loaded a new song in another tab. As well as, oh, not working half the time, so I was quite pleased for a day. Then, sadly, I discovered this app is acting a fool by intruding itself onto your homepage like an uninvited guest -- forcing you to use GOOGLE search by default, no less, no other options. No thank you. Last straw. Uninstalled.
Hijacking the default search engine is a shady tactic. No way to change without disabling the Extension. What a horrible decision.
New update changes your browser. used to be google, then when opening a new tab it was like, dark theme.org or something, and i couldn't change it back. was my favourite extension before the update though
I used to like this very much. I have had it for almost a year now and it was good until this morning when I found out it changed my new tab. This inconvenienced me very much as all of my shortcuts were gone. Soon after that, I found out that I could not change that permission from my end. Until this is resolved, my review is 1 star.
The latest update removed the ability to switch between modes using a single click from the extensions bar in Brave. Now it opens a drop down to enable or disable. Huge step backwards that adds to apparent benefit!!!
I loved this until you made it, so it takes two clicks to enable dark mode and changed my default landing page.
New update changes your default home page. Google, this should be something we can block extensions from doing, as this can lead to malware redirects. Uninstall immediately.
I was sold on this extension until you pushed an update through that automatically changed my landing page for every Chrome tab to your website without my permission or authorization. Loyalty lost with one poor choice, uninstalled on 4 devices, will never go back. Don't make my browsing choices for me and don't make me waste my time having to go back through my settings and put things back the way they were.
WHY DID YOU MAKE IT SO I HAVE TO CLICK TWICE TO ENABLE/DISABLE NOW? This was my favourite dark theme extension because I could toggle it with a click of a button, all other extensions are too complicated, requiring you to click into it, then click again to toggle. Now you've done it too, PLEASE revert it to the single click toggle, it was bliss
AVOID THIS GARBAGE! Was actually functional before, but latest update (December 14) hijacks you "new tab" page and redirects to a different search engine. GTFO.
Works fine, but don't let it change the new tab view! Gets rid of shortcuts, and then uses bing...
New version 1.3.8 is changing chrome's new tab and there is no escape. The "opportunity to apply a dark skin to the new tab" is not possible to disable, only by disabling the whole extension.
Why did you "update" form 1 click to 2 clicks to shift between light and dark??????? Just why???? So stupid. Guess I uninstall it now.
Took over my new tab page without asking, absolutely unacceptable. Uninstalled immediately.
It worked for me until the 1.3.8 update. Now, not only does the extension replace my default browser, but it doesn't work anymore on Chrome tabs. You can't even change the settings for the extension to not replace your browser, even though it says that you can. Even if it did still work, the easily clicked extension to enable/disable was replaced with a popup that you have to wait to be opened. I'm removing it for now, mostly because it forces me to search with Bing, with hopes that it will be fixed.
Hijacked my default search engine without warning.
Very effective app
The extensions changes default new tab without asking for persmission, and redirects to Bing hahahaa. it's abusive
I used this extension until the update and have now ininstalled it. The update has hijacked new tabs to divert it to Dark theme's own website and Bing search engine. Who thought that would be a good idea? It's one thing to change the look of a page, it's quite another to take you to their webpage and send all your search through Bing, via Dark Theme.
I've been using this for a while, however the recent update is now trying to force my 'new tab' page to go to their website / search engine and does not allow you to change it back, and does not have any option to disable this feature. Sad to see as i found this extension very useful, but i will have to stop using it till this gets removed / fixed.
Aweomse but please add the ability to include domains like "localhost" or with IPs like "127.0.0.1" along with ports like "localhost:4000" etc. Otherwise, it works amazingly well!
I hate it. It is very bad it doesn't work at all, it doesn't make anything dark mode. It just watches you do stuff on your computer. Don't download it.
Doesn't even work on the chrome web store itself and where it does work, it's astonishingly ugly, I've literally never seen a less aesthetically pleasing dark mode anywhere.
It doesn't work for all sites (such as this one), but you can exclude sites. I found I have to refresh the page to activate / deactivate it. What I would really like is to be able to se the mode for a tab that's open and not apply the theme to all open tabs. I like that there is a theme changer, but I haven't found it easy to tell what's on and off. I also really appreciate that dark does not mean black, it is grey! With an astigmatism, bright colours on black backgrounds sometimes cause halation but I also have a vitreous detachment which is annoying when looking at backgrounds that are too white! I find it quite accessible
Except for Chrome Web Store and YouTube, this works really well across all of my favourite sites. Recommend 100%.
Got this extension originally to use for google docs. It worked for a little, but after a while docs just refused to work. Even with the "Light mode" on, the text just wouldn't show up. It also completely screws up the layout and appearance of a site from time-to-time.
some areas dont work and the font for the "people also searched for" is completely missing.
This is great! Its just that the "People Also Ask" is broken
i hate white babies because they suck dodo
great!! I love it.
Nice one
The extension is pretty good though it does not make certain sites like reddit dark themed it works for majority of the sites I use.
It works well for me, but the whitelist needs work. If you need to exclude subdomains its a mess. If you exclude "website.com" you can't exclude "dev.website.com". It says the domain exists in the list. You have to exclude the subdomain FIRST. So "dev.website.com", then "website.com". You also cannot exclude IP addresses. So there is no way to exclude it for my router.
Tried several different extensions - this is the one that actually works well. Once installed - pin the extension. Clicking the owl toggles the page between dark and normal mode. The options page allows for permanent ignore of dark mode by URL. This dark mode extension is the best one out there and I have tried half a dozen of them.
This is one of the best dark theme extension because it allows you easy turn on or off. amazing! I loved it!
Great extension
um how to remove this. how can i change it back to normal
when it works, it's great. but sometimes it straight up won't, or it completely screws up the layout and appearance of a site - so much so that you can't interact with it. you're better off with another one.
Not working
not work -- all webs are the same, also I cannot use asterix
It messes with my Google docs display. Google Docs document appear blank, while Google sheets' cells were narrowed down to microscopic level and there's no way to view it other than download the files. Hope u guys can fix it soon
Sadly would only use this if I can set the time of day to switch on/off. Amazingly this is not an option.
Does not work at all, I tried multiple websites are none of them were dark.
It looks great at first sight. The page background does not turn completely black by default, but that can be customized. At some pages the modified design is not dark but grey. That should be improved. I would also love to see hotkeys. The Deluminate extension uses F11 for global switch and F12 for specific pages and it also does the best job to turn a website dark, the Deluminate leads to a flickering scrollbar at some pages.
It downloaded something onto my computer, i think i was able to cancel it fast enough before it was able to download but that's very suspicious and i really don't like that. I don't know what it was, if it was bad or good, extensions shouldn't be doing that.
Uh the OWL only shows up when I go to remove, not to enable . Its in the Extensions list but kinda pointless if there is no visible way to ENABLE IT.
Doesn't even work ?
Pretty useful, unfortunately, I've found instances where it conflicts with TailwindCSS classes. After doing some digging, I found the `.hidden { display: none !important; }` code in `inject.css` conflicts because most Tailwind installs use the `.hidden` class, but override some things at other screen sizes (i.e. using `hidden md:block` to hide an element on small screens, but make it `display: block;` on medium sized screens.) I haven't found a way to resolve this without uninstalling the extension, unfortunately. Maybe you could use a prefix with your classes to reduce potential collisions with existing CSS?
this is the best, but the videos and photos are not able to see.
This is actually a pretty adventurous extension. It isn't perfect for many of the sites, but it is trying harder than some of the other options I have seen. For the sites it does not do well with, the results are obvious as it usually will wreck havoc on the sites theme. Especially, sites that have proprietary video players as it messes up the ability to properly control the video content (ie, no timeline control and the image ratio is also off at times). However, for many websites it works just fine. I think it would be the perfect plugin if it allowed the user an option to invert the way it works. Since it still conflicts with so many websites, you run into odd bugs like the before-mentioned video player troubles and have to remind yourself that it could be that plugin causing it (before your brain starts to assume there might be something else wrong with your browser or the site). So, it would be nice to have an option to invert the exclusion list and turn it to an active list. This way it is disabled by default unless you add a site. This way, all user-types are covered and the popularity of the extension would climb all the higher. For now, I fear that if I keep finding more sites it conflicts with than not, I will eventually unload the extension and try something else. It really is a nice attempt at everything though.
its really good except that when you go into images you can't see any images and how do you get to the home page to customise your own options
Doesn't work
noice:)
f u c k i n g sucked
do not work
Doesn't even work
Very nice except for one detail. If you could add a few more colors to the custom optoin that would make that option useful. As it is, there are only 3 browser colors so no matter what combinatoin is chosen, it's all a flat blob with missing text and boxes. ... Still, great work as I really needed the dark.
Configurable color mode, turned on / off with just one click. I would give it a five if it is not automatically turned on whenever I restart chrome.
adding websites to the site exclusion list works half the time, the other half it gets buggy. especially with netflix (it removes video controls, and subtitles), facebook, and youtube.
LIterally doesn't work for this very site. Somehow still works for the site i was actually intending to use it for though so good on you guys! I like that the extension details what data it actually collects so you know that it's not collecting your private information and instead it's just usage statistics.
Does not work at all
Tested on numerous sites, nothing changes when turning it on or off. Needs to be updated.
Its ugly and i cant turn it off for some reason. Even when i uninstall it the pages remain black. Doesnt even look nice so its even more annoying.
Usually works fine but when searching photos in Google image tab, we cannot see the photos unless we turn it off. Fail to function in site like Google Docs until the words cannot be displayed (as it is in white colour same as the background).
Color looks good , Only problem is it not works with all UI elements in web. Take an example of instagram on web.
Does work on many websites but there are still many bug needs to be fixed won't consider until then...
After trying multiple extensions, this one is the best I've tried by far! When I use it with Chrome, by default it works fine. The OPTIONS interface is a bit iffy. The RED X doesn't work immediately. It takes a while for the browser to refresh/catch up to show them actually deleted. Some nice additions would be to show the colors used when selecting a theme, then REFRESH the screen automatically. Another would be to allow editing and changes to any theme you select, versus creating a new one. Thank you!
Works great! All sites I've tried easily switch over to dark mode, and while some look a little odd, it's worth it in my opinion. Also, the whtielist works great for adding exceptions! I have been able to block sites like youtube, which already have a dark mode, from being changed by this add-on. Would recommend.
Doesnt work with google docs, getting errors
its goo. it did what it said it would do. turn everything to dark mode.
Simple to use, but no customization, and it doesn't remove itself well. Other more extensions do this better.
