This app was easy and great, after the new update, i'm looking for a new screen reader. Why change something working great?
It was good until the update.
Was amazing, near perfect, new update totally ruined it, i hate it now and i will be looking for a different text to speech reader for college, its a shame because it was great from my first college class to now the grad school thesis, hopefully they undo the update and restore it to normal so i do not have to look for a new reader
It used to be amazing and by far the best reader I have found but then they just changed it and made it absolutely horrific Lee horrible clunky and removed so many features that I loved like having a box to copy and paste text 2 and then having it read that box. Now I have to find a different reader because this one is almost unusable now
Within the first few hours of adding it I love it! Exactly what I needed when I wnt to the store.
Editable so people like me with ALS impaired speech can use it to communicate. The only thing I suggest is to allow a user to open the TTS with a blank page to be ready for users text
i loved too much this .I liked most that is there are different voices available so the world best .
I originally rated this 4 stars, because it was pretty much the only app I could find where you could change the rate it reads at. Some time in the summer of 2020 the speed change stopped working. Not sure if it was a change in the app or a change in Google Chrome, but it hasn't been fixed--so I'm changing my rating to a "2" for now. Also, now it will read a few sentences and then stop. And often, you have to tell it to read, then tell it to pause, and then tell it to read a second time before it will even start reading.
Randomly changed one of my favorite voices to something else. garbo
This is very useful and I loved it! It has a few flaws though! First off, it mispronounces some words. I will love for TTS to create a pronunciation editor, similar to what Natural Reader did and it's free! :D I dislike the fact that you have to pay money monthly in order to have natural sounding voices in NaturalReader. This TTS reader is free and I love that! ^^ If this TTS reader added their own pronunciation editor on both the website and the extension somehow, someway, that will be great! That way, I don't have to worry about the Text to Speech reader mispronouncing words. ^^ Also, this Text To Speech reader sometimes stops at periods when it reads out names like U.S. or S.H.I.E.L.D. Another thing is that this Text To Speech reader reads out the !!!. The exclamation marks. That has to be fixed. And one last thing. The confusion of Dr. and St. for Doctor and Saint, but sometimes, it reads out as Drive and Street. xDD That needs to be fixed as well. Overall, a very awesome and useful extension, but if they added what I suggested in this review, it will be awesome! :D <3
This is without much thinking on my part, of all the different text to speech applications, and most all were useful, the easiest and most reliable reader I've added to Chrome. I therefore give top review, and see any needed improvements as something that is going to happen for the constructive collaboration between those that make these applications and the people who are needed to test and use these tools, giving criticism where it is positive to build a greater UX and UI, #1 TTS Reader that can do all that anyone could desire or need! This stronger relationship between us all makes anything in this platform called existence a mutual collective species that evolves into the zenith horizon super race of mankind. There is a glitch within this very useful text to speech reader, namely the premium version, when I purchased it was doing fine, but then a month later it stopped being able to access and speak the different voices. Is only giving me the US female voice. $10, so what! I guarantee all of you who have complained got way more than a $10 contribution to something that works great, even if it is speaking only one voice. Plus I am certain that it functions fantastic for most who have it installed. TRUE
This appears to be an outdated version of another product by the same company. Website does not compare the two product features or use cases so it is hard to tell. It also causes a pop up notification each time Chrome is at boot time which is annoying.
Runs in the background from Windows startup, whether or not using Chrome, for no legitimate reason.
great customized
best from all others
I only wish that it hard a faster reading speed than its current maximum.
I've tried about 5 different TTS extensions on my Chromebook and this is the only one so far that I could 1) understand clearly, 2) copy/paste text into, 3) was free and offered the options I needed without any frills I don't.
Paid for premium. It didn't work. Tried to cancel the payment withing the 30 minutes but it wouldn't cancel the payment. I was interested in the voices available and creating MP3 files. Turned out they basically had the two Microsoft Voices that I already had plus two other generics. You pay for nothing and can't cancel. The free version gives you no real information about the premium version.
Considering that it's free, it's decent quality. Helps me a lot with my ADHD and doing homework. Though it could be much better quality if you paid for a program, this works just fine.
Im very happy with the product, its reliable, simple to use, and free. Thank you provider!
Doesn't work out of the box like it should. Messed with it for 10 minutes and decided i had already wasted too much time. trying something else
because of adds
having low vision this help me a lot
sounds abnoxious
Hebrew crashes, it doesn't work!!
Used to work. Now in Chrome it doesn't work at all. There is no ad-blocker, the volume is up, and sound works on every other single page. For some reason no sound comes from this extension or the main site page. Also, the page is not "muted". I don't know what the problem is. I am using it on Linux in Google Chrome.
fantastic aid for people with ADHD
A quick nifty way to keep up on my blogs while I do other things. I would give 5 stars but I am still getting annoying ads on the chrome extension even though I paid the premium specifically to remove the adds. Please let me know if I am doing anything wrong.
Paid for premium. Had to re-install chrome frome crashes. Now i'm back on basic version with adds and pop-up that blocks window.
1990s design with no features and unbearable constant nagging screens
I love to use this, it makes my homework productivity so much better. Sadly sometimes the reading skips right in the middle of a sentence, and it's only recently been doing this. Once that's fixed, this extension deserves 5 stars
This is the best TTS reader I have used. I give it four stars for two reasons: Some frustration I have with computing/networking acronyms being pronounced or spelled out differently from their "accepted" pronunciation. Also, at times it will stop reading after a series of too many numbers or reading URL's. But, this one has the least amount of these types of issues compared to other TTS I have used.
Mispronunciation of several words but overall good.
i cant get this app to read anything at all
there others better
It pauses on commas and not on periods. Really?
The audio crackles and the layout is bad.
I had used it before. It now has a very bad bug where it does not read complete phone numbers. It cuts them off after 6 digits.
Love US David's voice, but... If I don't copy/paste at least one sentence into the reader box some female UK voice will start reading and she's quite robotic, and not the voice, David, that I chose from the beginning. Also, the app stops reading too often and forcing me to go to the reader box, pausing and un-pausing to continue reading. This is getting tiresome. lDavid's voice is perfect, though.
As a University student with over 200 pages of research articles to read a week, this is a life saver.
I'd like to use this app, but it changes my keyboard language from default to the second one every time I enter Chrome. Weird. I have to delete it.
does not read complete Mandarin sentences. skips to next sentence before finishing
thank you soo much, really helpful.
Great app... looking for other voices now... only problems were addressed and notes are in the support tab.
[UPDATE 15/11/17: I removed one star because you don't support the Greek Language.] Wow! Probably the BEST tts reader extension in Chrome!! The UK Default Male/female voices are VERY Natural. It has many voices to choose from and Natural sounding! No other Extension has this quality. It also has other languages, such as (Bahasa Indonesia) which is very funny to listen to her when she reads the text in English. That is very amusing!! :-) I gave 5 stars, *I found your second Extension as well. With the name "TTSReader - Unlimited Text-To-Speech") Excellent job guys!!
Stops like every 10 seconds. Has to be manually messed with so that it will continue reading for another ten seconds or so.
Some problems with accepting formatting. Also, line breaks are not always handled correctly, causing speech interruptions. Overall, great extension. I would recommend manually copying and pasting into the input box.
This app is a miracle worker and I love it! It saves my life and it's free!
I like TTSReader X In-Page Text to Speech but it would be nice it can read 10000 words or unlimited. Please expanded longer reading and male voice. Thank you
Speech sounds very good at normal speed, but it's very slow. Plus large gaps after sentence ends that you can't adjust. Adjusting speed to fast (reasonable speed), speech gets very robotic. Functionality is A+, though.
Great app. Love it. Should have customization feature added.
excellent
needs speed controller
I cannot have it reading the text on internet links as the extension claims. Aftering having it installed, every time opening Chrome, I have to 'retore'. I won't have this 'retore' instruction on Chrome after removing this extension.
it's working for ASUS Chromebook and for me. Thank you very much. Male voice? AmEn?
excellent Product
Absolutely LOVE it! It helps me read long articles WAY easier. I tottaly recommend this.
Makes TTS simple great extension
Fantastic product. Yes, sometimes it stops at odd points in the middle of a sentence, but considering it's still better than every other free reader I've checked out, I can't give it less than 5 stars. It's incredibly easy to use and sounds great. I love the features of the extension.
good
Perfect for multi-tasking
When I highlight speech in google docs and right click there is no shortcut to read the text outloud. Otherwise the extension is very good! Please change this!
grate product
excellent Product problems with my Ivona Voices. the speech speed/rate does not seem to change when i use it with the Ivona Voices. Also, It suddenly stops speaking sometimes when i use it with my Ivona voices. both on your website (http://ttsreader.com/) and the Chrome Extension.
The very best extension of its type, allowing you to view the text being read in a separate box. It reads things like Google Docs, which is unusual and a nice surprise. I just wish it had more voice options and more gradations between speeds. But excellent overall.
Download this TTS extension rather than all other available TTS extensions in the Chrome Web Store. It works and it's free. So many other 3rd party TTS apps barely work.
very goooood very useful
Its a great speaker and i love it thank you for adding it
Very good, I highly recommend it. So far it's FREE and I see no limitations.
Does nothing! Select text and have it read it and no sound is produced -- yes, my audio is on and I double checked listening to other audio in the same browser window. If I click on the extension it will show that it is playing; however, it will never move past the first highlighted sentence and it just does nothing!
Love that the text the app is reading can be viewed in a separate overlay by clicking the tool bar button. The overlay highlights each sentence as it is being read.
You guys do awesome products. Very useful!
I use TTS readers a lot. This is one of the better ones. Mostly because you can highlight a lot of text and it will read it quite reliably. I would like to see more voice options though. My preference is Australian or British female voices.
Text Speech speed is too slow, needs 2 more fast speed options, very fast & very very fast. Until then im using macros to read web pages, i would have bought this if it had the same faster speed options as all text to speech readers have ...
I had high hopes. I purchased it and for about 30 minutes it worked well. But then it stopped working and I have not been able to get the extension to work.
Cannot read my textbook out loud which is the reason I bought it. The site I attempted this on was my politics textbook on brytewave.
