Works just like advertised.. actually even better! For those complaining about keeping your changes "persistent".. it's because you dont know what your doing. Use the sync feature! Go read the documentation!
This used to work flawlessly, but over the last month or so, it no longer retains settings for twitter. Whenever I close the twitter tab, my settings for that domain completely wipe out.
This extension does take a little bit of patience, but that is only because websites have very complicated CSS. Stylebot gives you unlimited customizability with excellent features like being able to inject CSS only on particular domains or even subdomains, injecting CSS on every page. Its inspector view makes it easy to target specific elements and its options page lets you write as much arbitrary CSS as you want for any website you visit. I can't imagine using Chrome without this extension
Doesn't work.
Cool, I'm finally fixed annoying bug in bitbucket labels plugin ?
AWESOMENESS
Wonderful extension, has completely changed my web experience. Just takes a bit of CSS knowledge.
What a stupid. Literally does nothing. You click "Readability", nothing happens. You click "Open Stylebot", nothing happens. Garbage.
Really liked the Code tab. Gives flexibility to styles and great css ide.
I wish there was a forum or database people can submit code to just for this plug-in! Sites like Forbes detect the AdBlock installation (illegal action in UK), so Stylebot is perfect to tell those sites to STFU! I also use it on YouTube, Facebook, and other sites to focus on the content I want to see and take out the trash. Very useful commands: Return the scroll bar | body{overflow-y: scroll} Hide sections | display: none (or) visibility: hidden
It's a simple plugin but tremendously helpful for correcting issues with font sizes and styling on web-based editor apps such as those I use for on-page SEO. I simply tinkered with the original CSS values in > Inspect in Chrome then copied over my changes to the editor in StyleBot and it worked! :D Note: I was also able to use a wildcard for the URL as apparently my web app in question has an ID number at the trailing end. Hence I tried like so and it worked: " WebAppDomain.com/dashboard#content-editor* " I definitely recommend StyleBot and I'll be using it for more sites as well. Thank you! :)
One of the best extensions I've ever used. I've been had it for a few years now and it's so honestly useful for someone like me who is not only visually impaired, but doesn't mind going out of their way to quickly 'fix' a website to improve readability/visibility. Other extensions I've tried that declutter sites and/or improve general readability just don't cut it for me, either because of limited customizability, subpar presets/sliders. After all, everyone has different tastes, and my eyes happen to be Actual Garbage, therefore need the extra help. Overall, it's CSS editing made super accessible, simple, AND you can save your changes. It's so incredibly handy to have and i'm truly thankful to the dev(s) who continue to update this extension and keep it running!
The input boxes in the extension don't want to focus anymore.
You saved my day! Thnk you so much <3
Updating review 20221015 This extension has worked perfectly for me for years now, apart from the momentary blip I mentioned before. The only problem I have with it now is the manual syncing to Google Drive. It works, but it always asks me to login to Google first. If I sync again immediately after login it works, but a VERY short time afterward, or after I close and reopen the browser. it forgets my login and I have to login again to sync. Is there any way to persist the login to Google for longer, so I don't have to constantly sign in to Google each time I want to manusync? Just save the login and keep it for 30 days or something like other apps. Or even better, automatically sync in the background? Edit: Looks like this was already brought to your attention - https://github.com/ankit/stylebot/issues/717 Previous reviews --- This is very strange! I've been running the extension on my Win7 box for years and it works perfectly. However I've just installed Brave browser and this extension (works on other machine) on my new Windows10 laptop and can see the same problem that others are seeing. Clicking the stylebot button doesnt bring up the editor at all. Also, imported all the styles from my other machine, and when I view websites that SHOULD have their styling changed they do not change at all. Stylebot icon shows a 1 on it as though it senses that the site should be updated but it will not update. I think this extension is broken in Win10, at least that's my guess, since under Win7 it works without an issue. Pls investigate and fix. edit: I downgraded to Stylebot 2.4.1 and it works fine. Unfortunately cannot export from 3.0.5 and pull it into 2.4.1 so I had to open each site I needed in 3.0.5 manually, copy from the built in editor to the built in editor in 2.4.1 and save and then it worked. I recommend this approach until the bug is fixed. https://www.crx4chrome.com/crx/208344/ Previous review from 2014: Absolutely awesome extension. However, periodically it just stops working (Chrome canary 40.0.2188.2 dev-m (64-bit)). When this happens you can't click the icon, but right-clicking it brings up a menu. That allows you to go to the Chrome store page, but the sidebar will not open (probably same as Daniel Rudd is experiencing) If you disable the extension, reenable it and then reload the page it starts working again, but only for a short while before it goes comatose. Please fix.
I need to know if this extension causes chrome to crash? Chrome is crashing often while I use it on a site that's formatting is really bad, and I'm using that site to work on clients programs. I used the extension to make viewing my work easier and everything more compacts, as this site is old school looking and everything is spread out making it hard to keep track of your work. This extension has helped a lot to improved it but if it keeps crashing chrome it'll make life difficult. I'm not sure what else would be causing this as it only crashes when I'm working on client programs.
Very good. Thank you.
Made discord web openable in a small window (like mobile), idk why discord can't do this themselves, thanks!
don't work with aws
very helpful
A great tool to make the horrendous new Facebook layout resemble the pre 2020 design.
As an extension developer that extension is helped me a lot on my work. Excellent job...
Does not work on wikipedia or localhost website.
Can it change the css after the website loads too? right now it just changes it and then a scripp in the websites loads other elements that I need to change
Best tool I have used to quickly style css elements, thank you!!!
Editor could be improved - every time I hit the Save button, it exits the editor. If you make a lot of changes and want to test them often, you will end up pressing the button a million times.
It does just what I want to do. Perfect!
Extremely good at cleaning up websites!
I love it, almost can't live without it anymore. I feel like I'm the web designer of entire web now (when I want to)
The best Chrome extension ever created. You're altering the websites to your own liking. More granular control over removing adverts and unwanted elements. Apply styles that will transform youtube, search engines, spotify, etc. Change colours and fonts. Throughout the past few years I built up my own set of styles that customise and change the appearance of my favourite websites. I couldn't use Chrome without it.
Works.
Love it. I use it to make ads invisible that my ad blocker misses on certain websites.
Ankit MVP !!!
not working properly
Stylebot was working previously, but now on Chrome Versions 94.0 it does open at all - neither when clicked on the button, not when keyboard shortcuts are used. The Stylebot panel simply does not appear.
Tried using it to disable youtube's asinine mini player. It worked once then stopped working. I don't think so guys. After removing from chrome, the feedback link is broken. Of course it is.
Only allows to choose the font from a very short list of predefined fonts, which are not even installed on my system. That's a huge bummer. I was expecting to be able to use the fonts available on my system. And I know for sure it IS possible, Dark Reader has this feature.
simply done
Best extension for styling sites and apps and enabling dark mode, period. Now with a G Drive sync it is a lifesaver. Thank you!
Awesome tool for hiding obnoxious popovers and sidebars on websites frequently visited. You need a bit of CSS experience but the Element Selector makes it easy to narrow down what you want to change.
The web, the way I want it !!
Actually life-changing. I never realised how useful being able to tweak some websites that I use often would be. Like changing font styling for better readability of documentation, or hiding distracting UI elements. This extension makes it super easy to add and edit styles of websites. I also really like that it's in an overlay with adjustable width (rather than a separate tab), and live updates the site as you make changes. Excellent! ?
Dock To Right (r) not working. The dock is displayed only when we make the browser small and responsive, and I think this is an important bug
Don't know who came up with such unbelievable concept, and the best part is it seems to work perfectly. Very well done!
Works fantastically. All the issues I had with it have been corrected! So pleased the dev picked this project up again!
How do i edit a site permanently
A great utility for learning CSS and/or making quick tweaks to websites you love. The new code editor makes it a 5 star extension. One of the few extensions I haven't found myself deleting a month after downloading it! In fact, I've used it for literal years at this point.
Update (October 10, 2020): It seems some of the bugs have been fixed, specially the CTRL+Z command working now. Changed from 2/5 stars to 4/5 stars. The current version is still missing several features from the old one. Thank you for the fixes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4/5 Review (August 12, 2021): ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A great extension that lets you edit webpages (CSS') layout on the fly. Very powerful and has a built-in auto-complete function that helps people that may be naive to CSS' in general. I have been using for years and years. Something on your page you don't like? Just hide with Stylebot! Don't like the Youtube recommendations sidebar? Just hide it. You can even hide things INSIDE the Youtube player, such as the "recommended videos" thumbnails that show up after a video ends, buttons on the player, and so on. Has options to import and export your database of custom CSS', so you can backup them locally and even import them on another computer you may would like to use it with, with all the same settings. CSS' aren't restricted to just the domain's name, it's possible to make custom CSS' to specific pages (e.g., a CSS for all Steam Community profiles, under the URL (steamcommunity.com/), and a CSS exclusively to your profile, under the URL (steamcommunity.com/id/YourSteamProfileCustomUrlHere). Be aware that any changes you make to the main Steam Community domain, you will have to "revert" on your profile's custom CSS. For example, everytime you hide an element using "display: none;" on the entire Steam Community domain, you will need to add the same element but with the string "display: block;", so it shows on your profile. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Original 2/5 review: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A great extension that got botched with the latest updates. Good things that came with the new updates: The ability to turn a website's style on and off; Bad things that came with the new updates: Everything else. The new design removes several things that was in the previous editor, it's very clunky to write (unable to use Ctrl+A, difficult to add a minus sign behind a number, can't use Ctrl+Z...), and overall buggy. Due to the removal of the options, I had to rely on editing the CSS code. If you Ctrl+A and delete accidentally, say goodbye to your entire style for the website, because Ctrl+Z does not work anymore (you could Ctrl+Z on previous versions!). This happened twice with me, and I had an entire style deleted without any way to revert it back, just because I was fighting with the clunky editor. If the author could fix the problems, or perhaps roll the changes back to the previous version (that was way more stable, less buggy, and you had the ability to use shortcuts such as Ctrl+A and Ctrl+Z), it would be great. Was once a 5/5 extension, now it's a 2/5 extesion.
It's got to be spyware because it's too good to be true! Had a little trouble adapting to this new version, but it rocks. It's also available for Firefox! Tip: Adding a new style manually, apparently the website name must be in lowercase.
excellent
Extremely useful
THE BEST!!
Absolutely fantastic!
Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks to the developers!
This plugin is amazing, I wish I had found it sooner!
This is a great extension. We've just bought into a SaaS product in my company which doesn't look the prettiest, but within a few minutes using this I was ale to soften it and make it much easier on the eye. I recommend this.
Easy and straightforward to use. Applies styles to all pages of a domain also!
Simple and powerful extension.
Nice
Wanted to get rid of some pesky things on Trello, works like a freaking charm. Didn't know this sort of thing was possible! Thanks for making it, and for making it free to use!!
5/5. also use as a ads blocker/tempermonkey-easier-option.
Absolutely stunning! I won't share which site I hacked with it - but your tool will motivate devs to write a good code actually without static dom ids. Love it!
Works very well. Wanted to make the youtube theatre mode player stick to the top while the comments and recommendation scrolls, this allowed me to do that. I used the following CSS code in the custom code section of StyleBot: ytd-watch-flexy[theater] #player-theater-container.ytd-watch-flexy, ytd-watch-flexy[fullscreen] #player-theater-container.ytd-watch-flexy { position: fixed; z-index: 3000; } #columns.ytd-watch-flexy { margin-top: calc((9/16) * 100vw); } Note, doesn't work in the normal video mode. Thanks!
Can you please make the code editing panel a bit wider or at least make the width customisable?
Can change the max-width of a poorly built website I use a lot! Thanks so much.
dosent even work like when i click "open stylebot" the app just crashes
Unfortunately, it does not appear to work.
Great extension, genuinely couldn't live without it. I'm somebody that needs the UI of a website to feel right or I struggle to use it. I used Notion.so and ClickUp and their fonts are awful, it drives me mad. This extension allows me to completely change it all which is incredible. Praying this extension doesn't disappear or stop working! Amazing.
I just started using Stylebot, so maybe I just haven't seen any bugs yet, but I'm already in love. I'm studying online and it requires a lot of reading. Unfortunately, the content educators/providers suck as page design and the layout and fonts etc are making my eyes bug out of my head. I just used the "Magic" tab on Stylebot and it's sooo easy to read now. Thank you!!!
Style editor WILL NOT OPEN!!
It doesn't work on wikipedia or wanikani so it seems to just not function most of the time and I have no use for it.
really helpful, hide the distraction from facebook feed and youtube
Used it to hide netflix's thumbnails that contained spoilers. LOVED it!
Margin/Border/Padding: type in "auto" in any of the boxes and the CSS becomes "autopx". Who rewrote this to be so broken? This used to work!
This extension has steadily improved over the last couple of years. Lots of easy to use options, as well as some good, in-depth customization options.
Used to be good. Most recent update has made it terrible. Won't open half the time. Can we get a link to the other version?
love it man (y)
EDIT, Review updated to 5 stars again! Developer has implemented some nice fixes to the UI, and I'm confident to use Stylebot in my projects again. Send the man a coffee! ko-fi.com/stylebot Stylebot is an absolute essential piece of kit for any web designer. It's one of the first things I install on a new machine, and it gets the most use out of any extension in my chrome kit (which is now over 30 extensions long) by a very long margin. Excellent work.
Outstanding way to customize website appearances
Stylebot is the direct cause of NO images showing up in Gmail in Chrome. Turning Stypebot on: No images shows up. Turning Stylebot off: images back to normal. Too bad. I loved this little nifty extension...
Old review: 5 Stars — "Better than Stylish IMO" New review: Extension recently got a complete UI overhaul, looks great now. But it is unfortunately completely broken. How to get back the old version that worked?
Loved it, but now it's unusable as a developer - modifies every(!) page adding DOM elements and loading Google fonts (which is a privacy problem, too).
I have no idea how, but this breaks Xero's Leave page in My Payroll! =( Unless I have this extension disabled, the page forever just shows the loading indicator. I've raised an issue here: https://github.com/ankit/stylebot/issues/572
New update is great, loving the UI for the styling menu! I love the readability feature, one request on that is if we can update the readability settings and have them applied anywhere we want! Plus a readability keyboard shortcut would be next level!! Thank you again for keeping the extension updated.
New update looks horrible, is unstable and stopped styling any website that I still had an existing styling for that was made in the old version of Stylebot. I'll stop using this until major bugfixes and stability issues have been fixed. Going to move over to Tampermonkey til this has been fixed.
Version 3.0.1 just broke the Facebook notifications and page which is the entire reason for my installing Stylebot in the first place. Due to a visual impairment I need FB "unread" notifications to be painted with a green background rather than Facebook's default "off white" which is almost indiscernible to me from Facebook's "read" notifications which are white background. Edit: I found the problem. Enabling "Stylebot's Readability" switch is what breaks parts of Facebook. I am putting my rating back up from 3 stars to 5 stars. Now to answer the question "How did that get turned on?" I have no answer for you.
You should not have hijacked Stylebot. Of course you wanted the users, but you should have made your own instead of hijacking Stylebot. Everything is broken. You have totally screwed up this extremely useful ad-on. Congratulations.
I used to love this extension. Simple UI with all the options you could want intuitively placed, and the overlay menu was small and unobtrusive (like it needed to be) I just figured out how to make styles this week, and I was excited to finally have cleaned-up versions of all my sites. Now that excitement is gone, because of 3 issues: __________ 1. The right-click no longer works; I need to click the icon in the pop-up menu once for each and every item I want to edit the CSS of. This is true for all sites. Please fix this. 2. I cannot edit my Styles' code, like at all. When I select "edit style" for a website I have a Style for, the Style shows as completely blank; no visible code of any kind. The same goes for the "Code" tab in the popup menu. This is a major problem because some of my Styles are no longer functioning properly. Without a functioning edit-Style or Code window, I cannot repair my now-broken styles. As-is, I can either have a broken Style or no Style at all. 3. The new popup menu is nearly TWICE as large as it was, which is a major issue for me. I find myself constantly flipping the content-blocking menu now, while before I rarely did. The new color-scheme and whatnot is nice, but the massive increase in popup size is a deal-breaker for me. ________ I'm disabling this extension on the sites on which it's broken. I appreciate that you're receptive to feedback (I'll submit this at the link you've provided others), and I *do* love this extension... but not with the above-mentioned bugs. I understand that developing an extension must be a lot of work, and I appreciate the better colors and readability of the new UI (seriously love that), but the new update has some issues that (IMO) genuinely *need* to be ironed-out before version 3 is an actual upgrade over version 2. Please fix the update. It's close, but it's not quite "there" for those 3 reasons for me.
styles dont work in new version
Stylebot just popped up a Windows notification advertising new features. No, bad addon, no notifications.
Used to love this. New version pretty much broke everything. Many styles I have built over time, simply don't work. Very disappointed.
Glad to see the Extension comeback to life!
New version broke my styles, any way to roll back?
New Update has stopped supporting css animation please fix it. Thanks in advance.
Is there a way to decrease opacity of an element?
Excellent utility. Just loved it. I use it to hide certain UI elements which i doesn't want on certain websites. Doing so avoids distraction and let me browse/navigate more powerfully. I have been looking for tool like this since long, Wonder why i couldn't find it before.
I can't see Styles and there are no results in Search Box
It was nice until it stopped working. And can't edit the css anymore, everytime I press save, it doesn't save anything and I loose my changes. Also, it looks like it is reordering rules automatically, which is annoying as it breaks the style.
Fantastic. I love that they recently added the option to toggle between the styles without reloading the page. I have dark mode on for google docs when it's night time, but I use the normal mode when it's day time.
"Remove styling" menu item permanently deletes your styles with no confirmation and no way to undo. Even accidental clicks will irreversibly erase all your work. Use a different extension.
You have to click the "CSS" button on your browser bar and then "Options" and then "Styles" to add and edit styles. What would be really cool is if you could click the "CSS" button AND GO STRAIGHT TO THE EDITOR. 8^|
I tried to use this to do some testing where I need to add many (10+) classes to a webpage to see how it would look. After spending 15 minutes trying to figure out why my styles weren't working I realized it was because this extension was dropping 1/3 of the attributes when I hit save. Some classes didn't get saved, others got saved with only some attributes, and others saved in full. There was no error or warning message; this just happened silently in the background. In this state this is worse than useless for development.
Saved my sanity! This was so easy to use and helped me tremendously. For some reason my font in Messenger got messed up and everything was in bold Helvetica. I hated using Messenger on my computer cause the font drove my crazy haha. I found this app and fixed the font manually; now everything works great.
Does not work for an iFrame in the site. Even if it is the same domain.
It's very good at what it's supposed to do, BUT what use of it if the navigation is so crappy. there's no way you can go to previous menu after editing the css directly, the only way is to refresh the entire page.
Just Awesome Extension ever i seen before. I Love This Extension A Lot. Keep It Up Dear Developer.
I've been using this for over a year now. This extension works great! Microsoft outlook website is just awfully spaced, with open tickets to fix the spacing issues. However, installed this extension setup my own CSS and bam, nice website. Tons of future applications for sure, thanks to the stylebot team!
IT'S SO GOOD! THIS IS MY FAVORITE EDITING SOFTWARE! IF YOU WANT TOO EDIT SOFTWARES LIKE YOUR A PRO, TRY THIS! The others is just an 1-click text to edit an they get boring quick. BUT THIS IS THE BEST FOR YOU! But sadly, you can edit fonts only.
