Great extension to use with KeePass :) Keep the good work!
Works like a charm
When it works its the best password manager there is, worked perfectly on windows. I tried it in ubuntu and it wouldnt connect, others seem to be having this same issue :(
Ts don't work anymore. Great.
Dos not work, it won't connect, the thing is broken. The keepassxc team doesn't look like devs to me. It's been almost 3 years since last time it worked. What exactly can't you fix without writing trouble shooting guides to infinity? I'm looking for an alternative to keepassxc, I don't trust the development behind it.
This extension is a disaster! can't detect login field no matter how many times you pound that redetect button... clunky and unreliable!
trash. Doesn't connect. Troubleshoot for days, still no luck.
KeePassXC + KeePassDX + NextCloud = Perfect replacement for proprietary cloud-based password managers
One might assume it's as simple as enabling web integration in KeepassXC and then installing this extension. Not so, I find connection to the DB drops randomly. It can't even figure out how to reuse an existing connection (even though I can see it listed in extension settings), so I often have to add a new connection multiple times in a session. Even once it connects, basic functionality (user generator, filling in passwords, etc.) just does not work (with no UI or console error). The only thing that works is autotype (which selects the correct entry) but then you have to do extra manual work to edit the sequence if the site uses multi-step login. Quite frankly, one needs to become an extension developer and sysadmin just to try to debug and use this extension. This should have probably stayed as a Github release only, especially if 80% of the features are broken, it's not ready for prime time on the chrome web store. It's a shame because the desktop app works great on its own (without the browser integration).
Great when it works, sometimes when I click on the icon nothing happens.
This is so damn broken it's ridiculous. Rare for it to even function a little.
This extension is a ****ing disaster. I've over 3000 entries in my KeePassXC and this extension is unable to select valid entries by domain. It's even unable to fill google's login forms properly.
best password manager i have ever seen/used
I really want to like this extension. There's one broken feature that really makes it hard for me to use though. I have a Keepass database that I've used manually for years. When this extension detects login fields in a web page, I often haven't saved the URL of the website in the KeePass entry. There's unfortunately no option in this extension for me to say, "add this URL to a keepass entry". This means I have to revert to to copying and pasting from KeePassXC. Funny enough, my Android KeePass app has just this feature, so the more I login to things on my phone, the more usable this extension becomes.
It refuses to connect to database (with Firefox and Brave). Only workaround I have found is to disable and then re-enable extension EDIT: Did a complete uninstall of the keepassxc application and addon and then reinstalled. It is now working as it should
A mostly functional browser extension for an excellent Keepass program. Its a bit of a pain using at first, as each website needs to request access to password credentials, and you can (as far as I know) only use 1 url for each password. Sometimes when first setting up the database doesn't want to connect to the extension, and this can be frustrating. You have to define each browser that has access in the database, for security. its working excellently once all my URLs have been defined and set to "remember" my passwords. Just log in to my database, refresh the page (or extension) and viola, passwords filled on login. All my browser settings carry over to whatever device I store my database on, with the exception of devices not running KeePassXC. I highly recommend this for people running KPXC on chrome or chromium-based browsers.
Wildly troublesome to use. I have to go back and forth between tabs and refreshing hoping that eventually the login request box will appear. The button that attaches to login boxes, by the way, seems to do nothing.
I love it. It does what it's supposed to do and have greatly improved with time. Now I only want the interface to be more modern. I mean it's obviously more modern than the original KeePass but not modern enough for me
Generally useful but it has a multitude of small issues that make the experience less than enjoyable. For instance, it keeps asking for permission to use passwords for each and every website as the default option. It occasionally fails to detect the login fields on some pages, and bugs you to create "new" password entries to fix the issue. It also refuses to work if you don't have the latest version of KeepassXC installed - this, plus with KeepassXC's frequent updates and clunky update method (go to website, download new version, try installing, get error message, forcefully close keepassxc-proxy, complete installing, open and authenticate, then refresh page on Chrome) makes for a frustrating experience.
I liked the browser extension but its browser inetgration does not work for icloud and some sites.
Works pretty poorly: connection to database often lost or entries not found. Why isn't this thing fixed yet?
Well I have a big database with all my credentials with a lot of autotype rules. I just want to switch to Wayland on Linux. Autotype is not supported. I hoped that if I install this extensions I will be seamelessly able to to use all my autotypes via the browser plugin. Well this extension is useless if you have database already. It is so easy, just parse the title and show the window of matches. But it just does not work. Very disappointed.
I switched to keepassxc from bitwarden 2 days ago and faced with several lack of possibilities 1) This browser extension can't fill custom fields (like do it bitwarden) 2) This browser extension can't edit credentials (like do it bitwarden) 2) This browser extension can't automatically copy TOTP to clipboard
A bit of a hassle to setup. Even when setup properly it doesn't do anything. It doesn't fill in the fields on any of the sites I need to login into. Right clicking on the icon and selecting "fill in the username and password" doesn't do anything either. The only functionality of this extensions is you get little icon on the toolbar you can look at that does nothing. You can click it too, but it still does nothing. It seems like this has been an ongoing problem for the past 4+ years according to the comments. Whoever wrote this extension should scrap the current iteration and start over.
I've used the KeepassXC extension for some time now with mostly good results on Firefox and Brave. Usually it works best on Firefox. I don't know what changed or when actually, but now the extension will not connect on Brave or Firefox. It always asks if KeepassXC is running even though it is. I've removed and reinstalled the extension, but no joy. Using v2.64 of KeepassXC and v1.7.11 of the extension.
I really like the fact that I can store my passwords locally with KeePassXC. However, there seems to be an issue with the browser extension when entering username and password is split into two steps which seems to becoming the norm e.g. https://aws.amazon.com/. The password field doesn't get detected and I can't configure custom fields, because KeePassXC expects both username and password fields to be present in the same login form. I can only configure username OR password custom fields. It would be great if the custom field functionality allowed me to go through the login process to configure my custom fields.
It think there's been lots of improvement over the last months. First, I wasn't really convinced but now it works just fine. Of course there is still room for improvement especially concerning creating new entries or updating entries.
I read lots of reviews about how complicated is this app and was a bit hesitant to download it. Before KeePass i tried other apps, who claimed to be more "user friendly". One app (bitwarden) didn't even open - there was some kind of error everybody complained about, another app (roboform) couldn't sync with my Chrome. So I decided to give KeePass a try. Yeah it takes a while to set it up and I had to be patient in order to get used to how it works, but after some time I realized that it is actually very simple and reliable. And safe! all passwords are stored on your computer, no third party storage needed. You can't sync with other computers but I don't really need it, and if I did, I'd just send encrypted database to myself and job is done. I wish I didn't spend all day downloading other apps and went with this one straight away.
Too convoluted. Shouldn't take people an hour or never to get it working. Never worked for me and the setup and config is too convoluted. It's faster and more simple to just autofill from the program itself without the headache. Developers please don't put more on your plate unnecessarily if you can't get this to be a straightforward and reliable addon for people's passwords.
Not a tech savvy but got this working after 1 hour. Migrated from Lastpass. Import took sometime since you need to specify the entry fields manually. Connection from the local database to the extension works well on most websites (although it does not work for some specific websites and I'm sure that my urls are entered correctly).
As of now, I installed but it gives the following error; Cannot connect to KeePassXC. Check that browser integration is enabled in KeePassXC settings
Seems great so far It does seem a little clunky but that could just be me getting used to using an offline password manager.
Everything is fine
I keep getting this message.. Key exchange was not successful. Enabled the browser integration support for Brave under the application. But nope.
It's great when it wants to detect and fill in the fields.
Vivaldi user here. Quite often, it asks for approval for another domain instead of the one in current tab. Generally, it would be better if the dialog appeared under the extension button and not as a modal window.
The extension works really well for me. If you're having problems, make sure you've actually unlocked the correct database (if you have multiple) that contains your password entry and that the URL in your password entry matches the URL you're trying to login from in your browser. For example: Steam actually has TWO URLs that you can login in from: steampowered.com and steamcommunity.com So for Steam I cloned the entry and set the URL for one to steampowered.com and to steamcommunity.com for the other. Sometimes websites change the URL of their login page, so if a login suddenly doesn't work anymore that's the first thing you should check. To be honest, when I first installed it I thought the extension felt "unresponsive" or buggy, but now I think it was because I had the wrong URL in the database entry. I've not really had any problems since.
in Password generator get condition (like don't include some characters )
Unfortunately this Pass apps unnecessary complicated. I used LastPass until now and wanted to test something else but KeePass isn't answer. After couple of hours I still couldn't manage this app and give up at last, it's been waste of time. Although I don't give upp searcing after a simple to find some simpler solution like LastPass
it can't figure out the username for microsoft.com and clicking the icon does nothing... other than doing that on many sites it works great. The starts just have to sort of align.
Support please look at that Chrome extension, case duiring over a month it causes severe issues. Until this time Ihad a very reliable cross browser, cross systems so pretty independent secure password manager tool. In opensource it's oftne not needed to get support, cause one can read the community and its not mandatory to get help if not paid any service. I just couldnt find help to my issue which is only in CHROME giving me errors: On first attempt to use it, it says: KeePassXC-Browser has encountered an error: Cannot connect to KeePassXC. Check that browser integration is enabled in KeePassXC settings. Further then it tells me: KeePassXC-Browser has encountered an error: Key exchange was not successful. And then COMPLETE STOP. I can try whatever I want... nothing works anymore in the extension. And because this first real issue till today, I have to take away one star!!
This one just works. I tried others that were flaky. If the URL on the browser matches the base URL in the KeePassXC app/database it works perfectly
Easy to use, quick integration with KeePassXC desktop
Database disconnects 2-3 times a day. No way to remember the password on verified devices. Creates a security risk by forcing you to use a less secure password, due to the amount of times you need to type it in.
Doesn't detect most sites for filling in credentials. Ebay and Paypal being the worst. Tried using custom login field setting, tried redetecting fields to no avail. Unfortunately will have to go back to defunct Keepass Tusk. Keepass is starting to become more cumbersome to use then lastpass
For Vivaldi and Firefox in Linux Mint I have to use with KeepassXC version 2.4.3 because KeepassXC browser 2.6x will not connect. 100% repeatable for versions and browsers.
i love it, most secure pass manager ,free(donation)
This extension sucks to high heaven, at least under Chromium. First, one has to have the actual desktop KeepassXC application open for the extension to be able to do anything. That, in my view, already makes the extension only marginally useful. Second, whether it will be able to fill in the username/password fields on accessing a site is a matter of hit and miss. Many it just seems to be unable to identify, possibly because the name of the web site in the database is slightly different from the URL where the log in page is. Third, quite often, even after identifying the web site correctly, it just refuses to fill in data, for goodness knows whatever reasons. As it currently is, this extension is worse than useless.
Works really well. Thank you for your work!
When Chromium snap version will be compatibile ??
it works perfectly. to update the tool on ubuntu and fix the error warning is very easy. sudo apt-get remove keepassxc # old version sudo add-apt-repository ppa:phoerious/keepassxc sudo apt update sudo apt install keepassxc # https://keepassxc.org/download/
Why is it not storing any passwords what am I doing wrong, it says it's connected and all but it's just not generating passwords nor storing them what. It always says no login found bad deal
It was good when it worked. Now it is broken. Does not work 9 of 10 times
Latest update broke filling credentials, now in most cases only the Username gets filled, but sometimes both Username and Password (could not figure out any pattern). This functionality used to work almost flawlessly. What's worse, no popup menu seems to appear any more when you have multiple credentials, now it always grabs the first one so you have to resort to using KeePassXC to fill in correct credentials manually. Please, please fix.
On September 02, the plugin broke and usually does not get credentials from KeePassXC for whatever reason. No error message. Auto type works when initiated from KeePassXC.
The latest update (Feb 2nd) broke self-signed cert sites. This is the whole reason why I used this plugin with Chrome.
I use it all the time. Great extension, still has a few quirks here and there, but it's getting better. Would love to use "Automatically reconnect to KeePassXC", but... the "Use at your own risk" banner makes me think twice.
Great software! Kudos to the devs of an amazing Open Source product!
I don't have any other options than to return to the browser's own password saving features, but KeePassXC fails to create entries for sites I'm logging into. It's like I need to babysit this extension to do what the browser can do no problem. What advantage is using software to be more secure, when it's bugs create an even bigger security issue? If you're looking for a plugin to load, update, and save your login credentials without fuss, this extension is not ready.
Seems there's still work to be done. All I get is "Cannot connect to KeePassXC. Check that browser integration is enabled in KeePassXC settings." When I reload, it changes to "Key exchange was not successful." I have ensured that KeepassXC is running before the browser is started.
It works. Very good.
This works exactly as expected, no bugs or issues. You do need to add some extra Title descriptions if you have multiple accounts with the same name. It's worth ensuring urls are listed as https, especially if you imported data from older csv or exports from another solution or db. The team have an excellent product and this extension makes it even easier to use.
Works great except for a small issue: On RTL(right to left layouts, like Arabic) websites, the green key icon is displayed "over" the text written instead of the opposite side.
Work great thus far and is an excellent addition to their desktop solution. Only issue I see is it doesn't always auto-connect for whatever reason. I find myself having to reload the extension for it to connect when I open my browser.
Previously great, some recent update seems to have broken compatibility with KeePass2 and can't get it working again :( There isn't much good out there that works with KeePass2 anymore so I'm pretty disappointed.
It seems many people has issues with this, but it has always worked fine for me so 5 Starts for you.
Great extension, but does not work with Trend Mircro Office Scan Agent, is there a workaround?
OK on most sites, 1.5.0 breaks the left-nav area of dev.azure.com
It breaks dev.azure.com when enabled: left panel stops to work when this extension is enabled. Doesn't matter if I add dev.azure.com to exceptions.
Very hard to setup. No useful errors. Going to the Github wiki does not help as the errors do not match up so there is no way to know which "solution" you should use.
flawless apart from a very minor connecting issue when you try and connect to an existing browser instance on brave/win10. Whenever I unlock my keepassdb i just kill by browser and open a new instance and the extension picks up the db straight away, works great. team's constantly pushing updates and improving it, highly recommended, i can't go back to my older solutions to password management after trying this, great project, great team, thanks
I updated my Keepass XC to 2.4.2 and now the chrome extension will not connect even though I enabled the browser integration. Any suggestions?
Its pretty good once it is configured, but the main issue is that it displays the username as a dropdown on the username field, and this dropdown conflicts with Google Chrome's own "saved passwords" dropdown, as well as sometimes with dropdowns provided by the site. I don't know what the right UX modifications would be to solve this problem, but it is a problem nonetheless. Another problem is that if you have multiple open databases, the extension is only able to see entries in the currently focused database in KeepassXC, even though all the open databases are authorized. This means you have to open KeepassXC and select the right tab for the current web page (which means you've already done most of the work needed to copy the password from KeepassXC directly).
Matching is an utter (apparently undocumented) mystery. Sometimes it works (that's why more than one star), but when it doesn't, good luck finding out WHY it doesn't.
Using KeePassXC 2.4.1, KeePassXC-Browser 1.4.3 with Chrome and the best I get is "Cannot connect to KeePassXC. Check that browser integration is enabled in KeePassXC settings." Of course browser integration is enabled. The Connect button in the Setting > Connected Databases does nothing. I never see the Connect button appear when clicking on the KeyPassXC-Browser icon on Chrome 72.0.3626.121.
Works great on Solus!
Nice. Works on FreeBSD too.
Does not work with Brave Browser KeePassXC-Browser has encountered an error: Cannot connect to KeePassXC. Check that browser integration is enabled in KeePassXC settings.
Pretty good - works ok. I noticed that the directory of the domain may be needed - e.g. https://site.com/example - this is different behaviour than other (cloud) password managers but no biggie. Overall, security is much better so I'm happy! KeePassXC-Browser Version: 1.3.3 KeePassXC Version: 2.3.4 Chrome: official - 73.x
While the extension sortof works, it does not save anything for me (no flashing icon) Lost a couple hours troubleshooting, and decided to move on back to 1password that I was previously using.
How to make KeePassXC-Browser saves generated passwords to KeePassXC?
Unfortunately I can not make i work under the last Brave Version 0.61.51 Chromium: 73.0.3683.75 (Official Build) (64-bit) and last KeePassXC version 2.3.4
The connect button under the "Connected Databases" tab doesn't seem to do anything at all on Brave Browser
I couldn't even fill one password and it's telling me that I have an old version of keepassxc whereas I just installed it using the instructions on the website. It can't login to the most mainstream websites (in that case stack overflow) and instead gives me a generated password... No, at the moment, it's not very good... Look forward to future updates, for the time being I will stick with my usual browser plugin...
I don't trust any of those cloud storing, security skimping, data selling, corporate pawn password managers out there, so I love that KeePassXC provides many of the same features in a free, open-source package. I can store my data locally, but maintain the cross device benefits of cloud storage by combining KeePass with Syncthing. The plugin works... pretty well. The biggest issue I've been having is the functionality to automatically create new entries, or update the password for existing entries when I change it, just flat out doesn't work 90% of the time. Also, the notification to allow or deny database access for a site can get annoying. Sometimes, I don't want to permanently allow (or deny) access, but I don't want to keep clicking allow once every single time the page reloads (which can be many times in modern login flows). An option to remember my choice for a certain length of time would be great (Like say a 5 min preference timeout). The auto-fill works well, even with a variety of login field setups, and I love the password generator integration. It gets the job done, but improvements can be made. Perhaps I'll take a look at the code and see if I can help make some improvements. Open-source FTW!
So far, so good but why is this extension nagging me about using an old version of KeePassXC when Im already using 2.3.4?
When i put a correct password, then login, save with keepassxc, then i check the password, i found it saved a wrong password. then i login with keepassxc, ofcource it's a wrong password.
Simply broken. KeePassXC is fine by itself. The browser integration is simply broken. There is not enough space to describe every single thing that went wrong. Essentially every function failed or was hopelessly unreliable. Endless attempts at configuration, getting different errors from the same input, and so on. Don't waste your time. Pity; difficult to find a keepass extension that can access a local database.
This extension keeps disconnecting every time I close the browser and I have to keep reconnecting and renaming.
Autofill does not work reliably
Works about 20% of the time. Usually the autofill garbles my username (leaves out random characters like it would put "usrnme" instead of "username") and likely does the same for the password field, though I can't be sure since logging in already fails when my username is wrong. This happens on multiple sites.
Really good when it works, but it doesn't work often. In the last month it hasn't worked at all. For comparison, I use the regular Chromelpass/keepass-http on another machine and it has worked fine since it was released without fail. KeePassXC have said that they will stop supporting it in the future for this extension though.
If you use the AppImage distro of KeePassXC, be sure to re-install your OS-distro version so that keepassxc-proxy will be in your path or the extension will not have anything to connect to. See this thread: https://github.com/keepassxreboot/keepassxc/issues/1559
It doesn't work if you run a web/chrome app in separate window like Tweetdeck. Since running a chrome app in a separate window like a standalone app, it doesn't have a bar w/ extensions. I only can try to access user + pass via right click menu, but it doesn't do anything.
Never fills up my credential fields since last update.
buggy, almost never fills stuff right
Cannot get this to connect in Chromium 67.0.3396.99, but the Firefox extension works fine. "Timeout or not connected to KeePassXC" I've checked the manifest to make sure the extension ID matches, manually started the proxy, made sure the database was unlocked, and I don't know what to do anymore.
It is good, but still buggy.
Cannot even connect to db
It is great but why deosn't it have a feature to save new entries when you register to a new website? I have to always add that manually to the program?
Love it just got an issue that cannot save the credentials to database even I clicked the menu "Save credentials", does nothing.
It never fills up my credential fields. I always end up having to do it manually, sometimes it works if I right click on the fields but most of the times I just have to open KeepassXC and CTRL+V
Alt+Shift+I to fill passwords... Works great! Would be 5 stars if Alt+Shift+I was documented somewhere... I found this by accident.
Works well for me across both Windows and Linux (Ubuntu). An essential part of integrating a password manager into your daily life!
works great on linux and windows!
Works great!
Worked like a charm!
Would love to try this out. On Linux when I try to enable browser integration for Chrome: "cannot save the native messaging script file"
