I didn't like it because there is no option to deactivate the constant listening. I am not comfortable with this extension being constantly listening to sounds around me. I would rather activate it manually when someone is braodcasting an url.
I really love this concept. I am just wondering if you can put an option for the mic stay off and the user manually click for receiving as needed...
Amazing application/extension, But o dont understand why no updates are given to this app??? it is most innovative tech
it is excellent !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it
no... it cant hear itself...
Sometimes I do wish people don't find out how good Google is. That is honesty...
so annoying
Make it avialable for smart phones.
It was good in 2017 until it started using high CPU usage from today using System Process.
Person 1: Did you hear that? Person 2: Ya! Person 1: What the hell was was that? Person 2: I think it was the toaster talking to the freezer about Amazon... As much of it as I understood. Person 1: Well at least they talk, it would be really creepy if they didn't
I couldn't find somewhere to submit a bug report so I'll put this her. After it broadcasts the url it plays a ~17 kHz tone for a couple seconds which is painful.
I like this extension, it feels like the future. It's also a creative use of technology, kind of like it was created "just to be creative" I love that Google are developing technology that is re-inventing our world but also creating things that are fun and playful.
I don't get the point of this, every time I click on it nothing happens except the fact that it said "Tone couldn't hear itself" if you guys can, please tell me what is wrong with this thing, I have no use of it other wise.
good!
does this cast to everyone that has it or just to people on the network?
Google Tone is fantastic when it works! As a teacher, I am constantly pushing out websites for my students to visit. Tone saves me TONS of time in class copying/pasting URL's for students. However, Tone frequently stops transmitting. If I restart Chrome, Tone is back up and running! Please, please, please work out the bugs. This is a wonderful teaching tool!
THIS IS AWESOME LOLOLO
Even though it makes an earpiercing and deafening sound, it works efficiently and nice. The kids keep abusing it, though.
update all this problem date and years..
This app is a funny way to troll my friends and for them to troll me (only a little). Although we sometimes use it for stupid things like trapping eachother on tabs, its very useful for facebook and sharing youtube videos.
Makes my mac sound like R2D2, I can imagine there could be all kinds of novel, fun and as well useful ways to use this neat feature. Love that Google keeps it fun and fresh too (R2D2 never goes out of style)
Amazing! Can't stop using it.
its loud but works!!!
its not working i try and try but not worked :///
hats off google
ok
Works great, except there a lot of distortion when using with Pixelbook. Any fix in the works for that?
got a bug
it be nice if it was avaible for tablet and phone app
It said couldn't hear itself even though it works on other websites and apps. Has no troubleshooting built-in. Anyway, is it really such a helpful extension that now instead of sending links by Facebook Messenger or E-mail, we have to bring their computer close by, play this terrible painful noise? It is at exactly 666 ratings and 158,530 users at the time of this review. The link has to get sent to Google and what if it is accidentally pressed on a link that exposes too much in the link like user and password, or an adult oriented website? Why should we waste battery to leave the microphone on? Why does it suggest sharing youtube videos with it when you would have to have both you and your friend turn off all their music and videos first? Is it that useful that it is worth always 'listening' to our microphone and speaker 24/7, including our conversations? And the best you get out of it is to send your URLs through Google as a middleman?
I can get links, but when I try to broadcast them from my pixelbook of all devices it plays a ton of static in the background.
I want to love it but it never works for me.
works great in linux, but the sound is horrible in windows with static (only tone issue).
love it
Please ad text
Awesome
la mayoria del tiempo no funciona
please develope an android client for sharing between phones and PCs or laptops
it is so amazing i love these thing bravo to who made it
I played this tone in school on full volume while the principal was in our classroom Lol i didn't get caught
This would be a great tool in the classroom if you could count on it to work when you needed it to. It's too frustrating to disable and re-enable every time you want to broadcast. Chrome v62.
very good
all it does when i press it is go to the my google account page
On Chrome Canary, this extension gives errors.
It only works sometimes
It is great when it works...please work out the kinks! Teachers need this! I often get an error message and have to uncheck the "enable" box in settings and then enable it again in order for it to work! That part is very aggravating!
Does what it's supposed to do but would be nice to have a setting like "only listen when activated for 1 minute" rather than always listening
Sometimes, it works and other times it does not. I tried to collab with my friend who had tone and yes her and my volume were up. Any suggestions??
fix the bugs please!!
Wonderful tool. Hope Google extends it for more things other than Urls.
Worked at first and now nothing. Love the idea for a classroom (particularly for my grade ones who can't type urls) If it worked it would be great.
it works
dont work
I wish it worked on Android too.
Love it, but was hoping to use it in a classroom setting and wondering if there's a way to have a "teacher" and "student" setting, so that students can't send out a tone and redirect the class to a goofy or inappropriate URL.
VERY GOOD
It always says that it could not hear itself. Mic and Speaker both are working properly in my system. Chrome Version 55.0.2883.95 (64-bit), OSX 10.12.2
it doesn't hear itself, unfortunately.
I like this extension, but it needs to be optimised for mobile devices.
great
It always says that it could not hear itself. Mic and Speaker both are working properly in my system. But google tone does not understand it. I love the product. Please improve
It always says that it could not hear itself. Mic and Speaker both are working properly in my system. But google tone does not understand it. Very bad!
nice!!
please fix bugs and add new abilitiesis...please @google
I try to use this for my classroom but I keep having to re-download it for every class period because it would say I had no microphone, but once it was re-downloaded I was able to send out special links to the classes. It just gets frustrating...
Doesn't always work, but is great when it does.
MUST be logged into a Google account to use...
I was really looking forward to using this but it keeps saying that I appear to be offline. :( I'm running on Chromium 49.0.2623.108 (Developer Build) Ubuntu 15.10 (64-bit) Edit: upgrade score to 3 as it now makes a sound but I don't have a microphone around. Will test and upgrade later
why it only brodcasts between computers .. it should brodcast over mobile phone also or any android divces, for ex. if i foud e-book and i want to brodcast the link to my friend's tablet or something like that it would be the fastest way to send him the link
Now works via pulse-audio on Arch GNU/Linux using chromium-dev!
Works as described
At first it didn't work but it recently has started working wonderfully
I adopted this at the beginning and it was terrible, but just gave it another try after the recent update and it works! I just sat in a meeting and saved a ton of time using tone to share the webpages we were discussing. Love it!
Has never worked...all time telling me Google Tone didn't hear itself, check mic setting.
dose not work after some time. however i like it in general
Causes Chrome to crash, must be removed from user data directory.
The idea here is amazing but if you are using this while listening on any form of professional monitors there is a literally unbearable high pitched ring that just will not stop until you frantically close chrome. I can still hear it.... Its been 15 minutes....
Very nice idea with very bad stability! not work for me, i tested in many system and platform, cannot sent or receive at any situation
Works well......
I twon't show up on my extensions
This app is not working properly ... just sound funny and the other chrome does not listen t it ... sad
doesn't work on chromebooks. The link is transmitted and received successfully on a chromebook but the received link cannot be opened when clicked. Kind of useless :(
Useful.
Can't get it to work on my HP laptop. It self-tests OK, but it won't recognize any other device's tones.
5* - for the idea and interface 0* - for it not being able to hear itself on my macbook pro, nor on the macbook pro of the 3 interns at the office.. Is this Chrome OS only? or is it mac supported?
cool
don't get it
This would be AMAZING if Google Now / Chrome on your Android device could listen for Google Tone's. Super useful and easy way to open URLs on your phone. Sadly, I don't have much use to sharing URLs with nearby computers...
I was a little skeptical but that soon wasn't an issue, it worked well for me at home and work, sometimes it only worked after trying a second time but nonetheless Its a favourite sharing tool of mine now. As for what else, I really hope this can be introduced on android devices at some stage. The concept of Google Tone is nothing short of genius, especially when innovators around the globe are focusing on new mediums for communication, its great to see an idea that involved looking at what exists already then depending on trial/error of new technology. Edit/Query: Could this be used at a sports stadium? ie- a membership or event notice link could be shared to all at once?
i love it its so easy
I finally figured out that Google Tone was causing Dolby Digital Plus v4 to automatically turn off (switch to Voice profile) whenever it activated the microphone. This is a major annoyance because my notebook speakers sound beyond pathetic when Dolby effects aren't turned on. A workaround or fix is needed for Dolby Digital Plus/Dolby Home Theatre users. The idea behind Google Tone is awesome though!
I looked at this with great interest as a classroom teacher to transmit urls to chromebooks set up around the room. I have a sound system hooked to the machines so I can send excellent clear audio throughout the classroom. It works great with my Mac and Linux machines. They seem to work well but the windows machines don't seem to be able to transmit the audio at all (no sound comes out of the speakers). I checked the audio control panel and the "device" volume is set accordingly. I can hear music played through the chrome browser and the system tones without issue but the "device" identified as "Tone" doesn't seem to make any sound. It could be the Windows OS is too old or too tied up with the controlling services. (I only have full control of the system settings on the Mac and Linux machines)
I would love to see a version for students that only receives the tones
It's a really cool app and great for groups!
It's a totally useful idea. But I though it also worked from the PC to a nearby Android. Which would be WONDERFUL. Please, please, please. Take it on consideration.
Quick & easy to use. Works reliably so long as it's not too loud around you. Push URLs to any other computer within earshot wirelessly.
Awesome idea, awesome extension. Only what I'm missing is equivalent for android.
Seems pointless unless you live in a library. Even a fan blowing on the recipients computer is going to ruin this. Also, my microphone is part of a headset that remains plugged in. I obviously don't have the sensitivity cranked up because that would result in feedback when listening to music. Who is this extension for? Deaf mutes maybe?
I can't get the app to work. It looks really cool but I can't get the sound to come from my machine when I hit the megaphone, I also can't get the URL when someone sends one. And yes my sound and mic work. I have tested them.
It does not even work!
