From August 19th, 2020 to November 1st, 2022, 13% user give 5-star rating, 6% user give 4-star rating, 4% user give 3-star rating, 7% user give 2-star rating, 70% user give 1-star rating. for Zendesk Dark Mode Theme chrome extension.
Dev expectations that users will pay for this monthly are pretty funny. Default theme from Dark Reader extension is better than growthdot version, and it works for almost all sites.
This is ridiculous that you have to pay money to change the color of something. 10,000% not worth it.
Sneaky way to try to make you pay
Trash. There are many other Darkmode that work with Zendesk. I am not paying for this.
Scummy move made it a subscription
At least grandfather in previous users to a lifetime charge or something ffs. Uninstalled.
"Take care of your eyes day and night using dark theme for Zendesk tools and services." No, take care of your wallet.
Not working after paying for it - also not offering an option to cancel my subscription.
Used for years, now pay wall trash. Those interested lookup Midnight Lizard.
Terrible!!! Now you have to pay for it. Very unfortunate for the devs to greenlight this...
After over a year of using suddenly demanding payment is the lowest of the lows. It doesn't even work that well and it's DEFINITELY not worth paying for. Removing it from my Chrome and suggest everyone considering paying for it to do the same. Shame on you.
fishy update... just use DarkReader instead, which is free.
Charging a monthly fee (as a service) for something like this is ridiculous... We've used this for over half a year, but my company will find another option and uninstall this!
Wow way to bait and switch people and demand a monthly subscription to change the theme.
over $2 a month (variable depending on country)?! That's going to be a no from me dawg
Yeah....... I'm not paying for this. Uninstalling.
$2 a month is a disappointing change, stopped using it.
It worked pretty well for the few years I was able to use it. Now that it's going subscription, I can use other methods to do a dark mode. Either way, thanks for the help for a few years.
https://www.howtogeek.com/446198/how-to-force-dark-mode-on-every-website-in-google-chrome/ You. Are. Welcome.
It's a 5-star app. Used it for a long time and got lots of people on my team using it. I went to go pay for the app (since they just decided to make it a paid app) and was prepared to spend $20 one time... the pricing structure of $2/month is frustrating. I won't be paying for this app, even though I love it and wanted to give them money. Make it a one time purchase and I'll gladly pay you!
Used to be great. Now paid and all this BS. Later
I've only been using ZenDesk because one of my jobs requires it. I liked the extension. But the mandatory $2 fee out of no where was very disruptive. It wouldn't be a big deal if I had extra cash. But with the pressures of things like the student loans crisis, something like $2 end up being a big deal.
Worked well for a while but then evidently they cut you off and want you to pay a SUBSCRIPTION for a dark mode? Are you kidding me? Instantly uninstalled when that garbage appeared, absolutely ridiculous. Evidently Chrome has an experiment now for this, seems to work well with Zendesk. chrome://flags/#enable-force-dark
Subscription for a Dark mode. Are you kidding?
Loved this app but unfortunately, was given a 2 day notice that the subscription would be paid. The lack of communication is more irritating than anything but alas, business as usual. Like others, I'll be using chrome://flags/#enable-force-dark :) I refuse to give this extension anything less than 4 stars because it really was good while it lasted.
From free to 3 Euro a month. Not even a one time purchase. You make me sick. Got a new extension for free.
Great plugin! However, charging $2 for dark mode theme is ridiculous. I use Dark Mode for many programs, none of them charge $2/month. Best of luck to the developers. I'll no longer use this extension. If you want to make money, I have no problem doing a one-time purchase, but I am not going to do a subscription model for a dark mode.
Pretty scummy move to make it a subscription suddenly. Would have paid 5$ for lifetime, but 2.5$ per month? Nah bruh
I liked the extension but not that much to pay for it. I understand you cannot support it for free, but having so simple functionality as just dark mode does not seem like a lot users will pay for it. If there are other Zendesk functions you can include in the extension, that might be worth paying.
My eyes are burning, but this pain is nothing compared to an empty wallet from paying tons of money for dark mode, that was free for years.
Free Dark Mode for everything "Including ZD" Enter the following address in your URL bar: chrome://flags/#enable-force-dark This will bring up a hidden Chrome settings menu and the Force Dark Mode option. Go the drop-down menu next to Force Dark Mode and select Enabled. At the bottom, hit the Relaunch button to restart your browser.
Subscription service now? I've used this for years and its been great but I guess time to find another alternative. Kind of a BS move.
Shame, We already paid zendesk and now you want more for dark mode.
Sudden change to paid subscription ion with no warning was a real bait & switch dirty tactic. And the Dev's comments towards the natural backlash is appalling. Not good PR. Uninstalled and good riddance.
Suddenly changing the plugin to a subscription model is terrible business practice. Doubling down against the backlash saying this product was always a "trial" when your website showed a different message is worse. https://imgur.com/tXZPlTY You've now removed the last sentence from your website and have preached a different "trial" narrative. On top of this, growthdot.com offers MANY other products that you charge for. Claiming that this was a giant black hole in your budget, which is absolutely ridiculous for the CSS inversions this plugin provided, is insanity. Sure, you can get off on saying "if its so simple why don't you do it", because a majority of people aren't going to learn CSS, let alone Chrome plugin development in order to replace this functionality you've taken from them, but that doesn't make it a valid argument. Dima, you're also pretty awful at customer support, and have responded to this backlash extremely poorly. You also obviously do not get that having a free product is a major value-add to a company that sells more advanced services. Now people who wouldn't have stumbled across your other products won't even see them at all! Use Midnight Lizard instead people. Takes a little tweaking, but out of the box it works pretty good too.
This is clearly abuse on the developer. It was working fine until prompted to pay to use the extension. I contacted their support team and they are as about as useful as Keystone Kops. Nothing but a run around. Upon paying for the subscription the extension stopped working. This is criminal and I hope Google removes the developer and any other extension they have on the Google platform. Greed is NOT good.
"You've been using our extension for free for years and now you put 1 star as a gratitude." Yes
This was great until they start charging?
Disappointing - you ask for money, but where is the quality? This is the only dark-mode for ZenDesk I found. But it was hard to read the text and the colors are not friendly for the eyes. I was using it because it was still better than the white background. I am not paying for same pain and tears in my eyes being tired, no thank you! Uninstalling.
$2 monthly cost no thanks.
Used to work well, but that subscription fee out of nowhere is not a good practice. One-time fee would have made me use it again, but I am not paying half of my Spotify subscription for this, sorrry. I am moving on to another free extension that is Dark Reader, that so far seems to work even better. Next time, give some heads up to your users, before doing something like this.
$2 a month. 20% of a Netflix basic subscription for a dark mode. Not only this, but the "company" is picking fights with reviews. Very professional. Remove the extension and move on, unlike Dima.
suddenly stopped working today without warning. I had to mess around for a few minutes until i gave up and came here thinking i needed an update. now seeing the comments, i guess that's how it goes. would have been nice to have been given a heads up the pricing model was changing. but honestly, this is a feature zendesk should include natively, and it was lazy of them to outsource this in the first place. trash company pushing basic feature requests off to 3rd parties for so long, im not shocked the 3rd party in this instance also became trash. trying my best to get my company off zendesk for a while, and these lack of basic features are the top reason.
This was a great and simple app. However no communication given to any users other than everyone being expired and being required to pay a monthly fee to use a product to manipulate css. While the fee itself is kind of ridiculous (too high) for something this simple. The developer response to people complaining has given me exactly no reason to ever use this or any other product they make again
Used to be five starts. I had an entire team of people using this plugin, and it worked great. Now they're wanting a subscription for what is essentially a CSS script? Heck no. My team will be uninstalling immediately.
Used this extension for years then all of a sudden you want $2.00 a month to use a theme? Well guess what? You just lost me. I'm not paying a monthly subscription for a theme that has been free for years. Uninstalled immediately.
Was literally free on Monday.
Like many people, I've been drawn here by the sudden, unexpected requirement of a subscription. I have gotten a lot from this extension though, so giving it just one star would be a disservice. I can understand the cost associated with maintaining something like this and I can understand the need to change to a priced model from a free one (especially in the current cost-of-living crisis) No technology is free to make and maintain and it's totally reasonable to ask people to pay for what they use. What sucks here, and what has fundamentally caused all the negative sentiment, is HOW this was done. If you had communicated to us in advance that this change was coming, given us a few weeks to reflect on what this extension offers us and has already given us, you may have gotten a much more positive response. Instead, the change was forced upon people unexpectedly with no explanation. You demonstrated a lack of respect for your users. It's disappointing but unsurprising that they've shown a lack of respect for you in return. Value your customers and don't take them for granted. They'll value you, and won't take you for granted, in return!
Trashy company that advertises their dark mode as free suddenly decides to charge a monthly fee with no notice or any communication. I would have paid a small one time fee, but since they just threw this at their users with no prior info...nah, I'd rather my eyes burn out than support greedy developers. Here is a link to a screencap of their website saying "Dark mode is ad free and charge free" which will change now that I have brought it to your attention: https://imgur.com/tXZPlTY
Best of this class and easiest to use. No need to waste time with millions of options and settings.
Works well, looks good, and my eyes are happy. No problem to pay.
Using it for years and happy to pay for it. Keep it up!
I don't know why people complaining about $2. You can just find an alternative if you don't want to pay.
Out of the blue costing $2 a month for a plugin that just inverts the colors? Pass. I will no longer be using it. I am now using Midnight Lizard instead. It's a little more chaotic but you can adjust the dark theme to meet your needs with some tweaking. If it's free again i would use this extension but I will never pay for this.
Great extension, but trying to capitalise by charging a monthly subscription?! I don't think so... Uninstalling.
A sudden paywall, when our eyes were used to the dark mode, so we can get very upset? What are you, drug dealers giving free stuff and taking it away once we can't live without it? Not cool. Uninstalling it, me and all of my colleagues in the company.
Uninstalling. Like several others has commented, a subscription for this is not worth it.
I've used this for quite sometime, I don't mind paying but with some perspective I think what you're asking is too much. I pay Ā£4.50pm for a google workspace. You want half that to maintain a CSS file from every user! Sorry but no you're going to net upwards of 40K per month to maintain a CSS file and the extension framework! as lucrative as you may see that I see it for what it is and would rather use a free alternative just for this alone. Adjust your price and many may reconsider.
absolutely loved it the first 5 months I used it, when I'm on call waking up to a dark screen instead of the harsh white light was awesome. All of a sudden it asks for a subscription fee and absurd permissions request. A one time fee I could have justified but this is just greedy since we already pay a subscription for the service any ways and all this does is add some CSS color change. Way to ruin a good product.
After the changes with the latest update for a subscription model and alarming permissions change, we have instructed our entire support staff to remove this extension and will treat it as a security risk and malware. Do not install this extension. Dark Reader suffices, although it has some small issues here and there.
Unfortunately, the subscription fee has ruined any interest in this extension for me. While I can understand maybe charging a one time fee, a subscription model for a set of CSS changes and color inversions doesn't make sense when there's a huge market of free dark mode extensions that apply to many websites, including Zendesk. Additionally, the extension now requires signing in with your Google account and the browser permission of reading and changing all data on all websites. No thanks. I've uninstalled and switched to a better free alternative.
not paying a sub
Chrome://flags search for dark mode turn it on, does the same thing as this app but does not cry how much time it takes to update configure, logs/images might look a bit weird but its not something that will prevent you from working.
Well I DID like it until they disabled it out of nowhere and now apparently you have to pay to use it...
Monthly subscription? wack, but your response to the backlash is even worse. Maybe get a public relations team with all the $2 dollars you gotta charge.
Here like the others - absolutely no shot ANYONE is paying a monthly fee for something you can now set for free as a flag in Google Chrome (or use one of the other extensions that do the same thing, like Midnight Lizard). I'd pay $2 once to support you and your efforts, but yeah, this is the easiest unsubscribe I've ever done. You aren't convincing anyone here that you spend your life updating this extension. In fact, you aren't convincing anyone here that you spend more than an hour per week updating it when Zendesk updates. To do what this extension does for free and in 1 minute or less, just go to your Chrome flags and enable the experimental dark mode feature: chrome://flags/#enable-force-dark
Came here to see the reviews and wow I'm not the only one that hates how they are trying to charge people, I am also going to uninstall this plugin.
Sorry, but a subscription for changing colors via CSS is unsat. One time purchase? Maybe. Subscription? Nope. Myself and my team members will be jumping over to Midnight Lizard.
I used this extension for months without an issue. However, I am now being informed I am on a "trial" and can no longer use it. I am very irritated considering this extension worked fine for over a year. Sigh, good things come and go I suppose! Back to sore eyes. Edit: I originally was really irritated that this change was happening since there was no warning that we would soon be charged for the extension. however, when I realized that the subscription would only cost only $2.15 a month I decided it was worth it for eye comfort. Realistically, you are only paying $26 a year to keep your eyes in check. Considering I sit at a desk for 45 hours a week I think it is important to allow myself that small comforting of making work easier on myself. I can still see why a lot of people are upset but, during these hard times I think everyone is struggling. I hope everyone continues to give this extension a chance like I did!
You guys might want to remove the word "Free" from your overview.
I've used this extension for a couple months now and it's been really nice, but as of today is now a subscription format. I understand that this extension has been free for 3 years, and I might be willing to pay a one time fee if one was offered, but when extensions like "Turn Off The Lights" are available for free, the value of this extension is not worth paying a recurring $24 a year. Not sure how much of a cost it is in upkeep to make the white background black and the black lettering white. PS. Devs, when you select to Authorize the extension, the link to sign in with Google says "SING in with Google", instead of "SIGN in with Google". I almost thought I was getting phished with a mistake in grammar like that.
Great app, I have been using it for years. But with their latest update, they wish for you to pay a monthly subscription and that just won't do. Sorry to have to uninstall a great app.
Now requires a Google login (with a typo on the button so it doesn't even seem legitimate), a monthly subscription, and access to all websites? This seems like the extension has been compromised, I would strongly recommend avoiding.
It updated after years of being free to require a monthly fee and suddenly greatly escalated permissions to read all data from all websites accessed. I'd do a one-time fee, absolutely no way to justify a monthly subscription for it. Additionally, it now requires access to all websites and verification with a Google account. Hilariously, the "Sign in with Google" authorization is misspelled as "Sing in with Google", as if the whole escalating permissions thing wasn't shady enough. https://i.imgur.com/yUlq8fq.png
Pay to use = uninstall and find an alternative.
This was great until they started charging a subscription. Uninstalled immediately and will not look back unless the subscription is removed.
It was great while it lasted, I'll be leaving with the others who don't want to pay for shading. Best of luck.
Updated from free to a monthly subscription fee.
Following the latest set of changes that got pushed today. I'm uninstalling and will never use this garbage again. I will not be allowing your extension to siphon data for some shoddy dark theme.
I really appreciated this extension for Zendesk; but, $2 a month for different CSS styling? No deal. One time payment ā ok, maybe. I anticipate the user base will shrink significantly as users won't pay monthly for this and someone will come along and make another free one.
Great extension but this new subscription update ruined it for me. I'll find something else, like Dark Reader, to do the job.
The plugin itself is fantastic and works as it should but charging a monthly subscription? Is asinine. Uninstalling and I will deal with a cheap quality dark mode that is free. If it was a small 1 time payment (Reasonable price) then I would buy it.
The fact that you rolled out having to pay for this before actually changing the advertisement from saying its free first it pretty scummy. At least change all of your user-facing adverts to be honest.
This was a great extension until the update released today. Now they want a month subscription for just a dark theme! Would have been happy to pay a reasonable one time fee. Went to a free dark theme extension that works just as well, so don't waste your money on this.
Was free than changed to a subscription fee for dark mode on a website. No thanks I will take the blinding white light of Zendesk over greed.
I undestand you need to charge some bucks to support the theme and is Ok. I preffer to pay 2 dollars to support you, and not to kill my eyes the 8 daily hours that I spend in front of the computer. Bests!
Was nice while it lasted but there's no chance im paying for it, plenty of free alternatives out there
Does anyone else have to pay now as well? I wasn't expecting this.
Asking for read and write on all websites... Whaaat?
new update makes you pay :(
Since when is this a paid feature?
Now is paid, i'll use it until the trial period expires...
Amazing - is this compatible with Mac as well?
@Dmytro Lazarchuk the extension doesn't work at all. It's enabled in my browser for the right domain, but everything looks the same.
This extension does not work at all. Everything is exactly the same.
I don't know who you are. But I love you.
Exactly what I needed. I don't usually review anything but I was so happy to have this extension I had to. This is saving my eyes so much strain. Thank you!
The regular zendesk ticket system works and looks great in this but it does not integrate with lovely views it just makes it look kind of muddy and ugly is there any way you can get this woking with lovely views?
Works great, but would love for the left sidebar to not ruin the dark theme.
been using it for at least a couple of years, loving it
Loved it, but it stopped working for me :( help!
