Funky imagery/layout. A little slower than most similar types. This extension is not trusted by Enhanced Safe Browsing. No options. This reader blurbed things out unexpectedly ..with either an odd arc image, or just info deletion..and it didn't offer me things that I couldn't find elsewhere.
Great extension! Allows me to use a Greasemonkey script for auto-scrolling on keypress (link to script: https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/7658-auto-scroll-keys-adopted) for the TestOut website by successfully scrolling through the Read Mode page. Before this extension, the TestOut page did not allow this script to function.
Read Mode seems very clunky to me. First, the icon on a tool bar is almost invisible on the toolbar in dark mode. Seeing that it is made for people who have trouble with busy website layouts the extension generally throws a number of large monochrome icons up at the beginning of articles that aren't really useful for reading purposes. Then there are often extraneous bits of text before or beside the article. Also you can't adjust the size of text within the extension. The Safari built in reading mode is an example of what a reading mode should look like.
best reading mode extention ever. 3 stars aveage not fair !!!
No options or custom settings but the best!
This extension often works well in terms of giving you a more readable view. However, it causes security warnings on many sites (perhaps all https sites); this appears as shield badge with a red "x", indicating "Insecure content blocked." This happens *whether or not you are actually in read mode*. This sometimes prevents some sites from working correctly unless you click the shield and reload the page with the insecure content allowed. It shouldn't be acceptable behavior for an extension to require insecure content. But regardless of that, it's just inexcusable for a developer to allow this behavior and not at least warn users that, even unused (but not disabled), their extension may corrupt the operation of some pages. The extension info page should prominently warn of this.
The plug in attempts to load scripts from unauthenticated sources. While this might be a false positive caught by chrome's system, I'd rather not use something that might be unsafe.
try "Reader View", that is much better and effortless.. link: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/reader-view/ecabifbgmdmgdllomnfinbmaellmclnh
It's fine except that I cannot change the font type or text size, also can't read in dark/grey mode... or mode that is not to hurtful to the eyes... all it does is stripped away unnecessary stuff, that's all... but reading experience could not be very much improved.
perfect! meet all my needs.
does not work. see example: https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/office/Exchange-message-tracking-73a2604c
This is what I exactly looking for. I read a lot of web-page daily and this extension helps me a lot.
Not efficient in get ride of the unwanted information in the webpage.
its PERFECT with only 1 flaw: it doesnt offer any options to adjust the font and background color and size.
Hi i do some small review on this add-on and this is not a real reader mode becos if i put the safari-reader.js the result is not the same but in IE 11 is working with safari reader correctly.
Great transfer for reading.
Does not show the body of articles, only footer and hearder text
It works but not all the websites I would like it one. would appreciate more customization and features
Though this works pretty well, it loses stars because there is no way to give it a simple keyboard shortcut in the usual manner. It simply isn't in the list of extensions that can take shortcuts. Any extension requiring me to use the trackpad or mouse is strictly amateur IMO.
Love it
This extension is the only Read Mode extension on Chrome that actually works for me. It's fast and reliable, and I love it!
Seems to add insecure content on secure web pages causing error messages in console. This is simply not acceptable in 2017.
Not work
The pages are NOT clean. They are filled with all of the ads, etc. NOT USEFUL
Functional, but the output formatting is clunky compared to UseClark.
Buggy and unstable.
did not work at all.. waste of time
Didn't work on an MSN Article that I was trying to put into read mode.
Doesnt work at all
This is amazing . I love it.
Does not work very well
doesn't work.
Really usable so far. I just need the display options to change colors & fonts.
Super helpful!
Lots of exceptions at console. View with twitter.com
Tried a few pages and it didn't work well. Reader View extension seems to yield much more consistent results.
I am a software engineer, so I read a lot of text formatted as code. This chrome extension did not do a good job of formatting code. Try it for example with this stackoverflow page: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4069718/postgres-insert-if-does-not-exist-already The code becomes so large that it's unreadable.
Doesn't work on a number of sites I tried it on, including the Washington Post.
No customisation at all
this works like a charm
Works great thanks for the app..
When I try to use it, it just goes back to the extension page. Doesn't work.
as in Safari. thanks
it sucks
I had to uninstall it because it constantly launches itself at inappropriate times, such as when I am reading my email, and shows me an entirely unreadable summary of my email page including the task bar and other things that it should not be pulling into the read mode.
Works great for me. I'd echo other's comments that the icon could be more visible on the toolbar, especially on darker theme colors.
does not work :(
NOT WORKING!
Doesn't work.
Really useful. The only thing I'd say could do with improvement is the icon is quite hard to see given how big it is in the browser. I suggest something chunkier for visibility.
Should add a night mode to it. Anyway it is the best app for reading online.
It will sometimes pull the wrong portion of a webpage. Also, I don't love the font they use, it'd be nice if we could configure it. Finally, the good things about this extension are the one click and fast processing (in contrast with "Readability" which has to send the web page to their own servers thus being quite slow)
i would have like it if i could have enabled it for every page. cause i have to click it every time i click to next page to read.
do not work with index.hu' articles
It's good in most cases, but one time it's overloaded CPU's one core, and as I can see there is leaks of memory.
Poor selection of text, no customization, no helpful shortcuts or anything similar. JustRead is a much better alternative
Could offer a cleaner experience, more Kindle-style, like Firefox "Reader Mode" does. But serves the general purpose very well anyway.
Had trouble recognizing the main article. Other parts of the page are displayed and it's distracting. Great potential. It's very fast and easy to use. Just wished it could recognize the article text better.
Simple and useful.
Not great. Have to scroll down quite a bit to get to the actual articles. Need to copy what Apple does on iOS.
Good, but not as good as the Safari browser reader.
either it didn't work or it removed all content from the screen. no stars.
It doesn´t work in every site, sometimes all I get is the page title and the footing.
It could use some customization options, but it is the BEST tiny extension for making pages readable. I got it because chrome doesn't have this feature like mozilla.
This extension is fast and light-weighted. Would be better if it supports hotkey to toggle Read Mode.
Works OK, but causes HTTPS warnings on most secure sites because it loads fonts over HTTP.
Failed on https://busybox.net/FAQ.html I'm using iReader now.
Hit or miss works half the time, I ended up using firefox's built in reader mode and it is much cleaner looking.
It load two fonts from external resource with every request. This slows down the browser. Fonts are not loaded with HTTPS. This causes errors and security vulnerabilities.
The font is not the best for readability
It's pretty good but I still think the one built into edge is better, I just didn't like this one.
did not include most of article
I would give it 5 stars, if it give me choice to open all website in reading mode at once(no need of clicking it on every website). but at last it has the best format in this kind of application. THANKS
Still clutters up showing a lot of irrelevant information.
The line length is much too long for an easy read —basic reading science. The line length should be about 12 words. A simple menu to change font size & have a few different fonts specific for digital legibility (serif & sans) would be quite useful as well.
I tried this out on a couple of articles on msn and cnn. It didn't work very well. I tried the Readability extension, and that seems to work a lot better so far.
very helpful in reading over chrome
Excellent plugin, but it needs to pull its font files over HTTPS to avoid errors on secure pages. Some customization options would be lovely as well-- such as font, font size, etc.
nice....
awesome for ppl with spects... ur eyes would love it
wonderful app .... loving it
Clicked on their icon and nothing happened.
Doesn't quite work all the time.
Would like to be able to remove pictures.
Doesent do anything
used "EasyReader" and this "Read Mode" side by side comparison a while. "Read Mode" is ok and quite useful with a single click just like the ipad sarafri provided one. But following weaknesses make it not better than "EasyReader". I keep using "EasyReader" now. 1. some time it will display the wrong portion of a web page, i.e. the main article is not shown but shown the navigation pane, e.g. While "EasyReader" provides the flexibility of selecting which portion of a web page to be displayed by clicking your mouse over part of the page. 2. lacking the options of fine tune the display behaviors, say, font size, font color and backgound color(which is important I think for a good reading feeling, to customize to your own preference.) I keep using "EasyReader" until any new version of the "Read Mode" to see if worth to switch. Thx
Have a nice day and nite. Very useful tools and its clear the fun reading and its enjoyable...Thanks and keep searching for the great findings...
I love the idea of this app. Great work! Keep on improving it.
5 Stars, if I could leave it on, or off. I hate having to turn it back on all the time, but I would hate to have it on all the time as well, so if it would just stay how I put it that would be great.
Simply excellent! One of the best extensions for reading new articles. Hope there are upgrades to it.
works perfectly, and acts seamlessly with chrome. looks very nice, and professional. has the main features i want, *Easy to access *No Ads or flashy animations but it is missing a night time mode, there should be and option to invert the page.
Brilliant! Works flawlessly - thanks!
Really great for getting rid of clutter on websites. Maybe add custom fonts or different modes. Also really great for making printouts.
I need a hot-key to activate this extension other than click on the icon, can you help me?
Doesn't work.
No change upon glasses click.
Works great! Is there anyway to customize the fonts and font sizes?
Works great. Saved my eyes.
Simply brilliant - I use it so much, when I reach for my glasses with one hand, my mouse hand twitches up and to the right. This twitch'n'click ultimately negates the need for my glasses :D
Can be a little glitchy if the website has multiple different types of programming on it while in Read Mode. Other than that it works great.
