it seemed to work for a long time now it doesnt work anymore like i see ads now is there some sort of update i dont know

Since a few days, it's now failing, mostly on google sites. Maybe it needs a sort of update. Before, it was working pretty well

I just downloaded and emiditly got ads, and when ever I went to enable it, it would stay off.

been using Ghostery for a number of years and it has been an almost perfect tool for making the modern internet bearable by blocking ads. However. For the past few days I've been getting advertising on Youtube. Did something change? Have Youtube taken a step forward in the ad-blocking arms race? Sad start to the new year!

Blocks the Cookieinformation.com cookie consent window making it impossible to scroll the the pages.

Must have changed recently: endless popups for the same choice (I'm gonna click ONCE, not for every site. did you fire your UX ppl?) I tried Ghostery and decided to remove it and keep Ublock Origin. UB Origin is the best, It's not even close.

Best Best Best Extension out there for blocking ads, trackers you name it! I LOVE this little ghost! After having tons of extensions like Protect my Choices, Google Opt Out, IBA opt out and of course the AV plug ins, I still get hammered by ads and those obnoxious trackers fill up everything. Once I found this extension and tried it? BAM gone. Love the interface on the side where I can edit settings for certain pages etc... I am so totally happy with this extension, that I will upgrade from the free version to the paid one....to see what more it can do. As an IT Systems Engineer I spend a lot of time online- as such I am constantly in search engines and looking up troubleshooting issues on support sites and forums---and not always able to do so on a work laptop---as such those types of sites can slam you with garbage. Using this extension makes doing that work and everything else on the web so much cleaner. I even loaded it on the other PCs in the house that the family uses- so now they can browse free of garbage too Thank you for this!

Blocks donate forms for non profits! Why is this blocking donation forms for charitable organizations? These are not ads!

Does a great job of blocking ads. Also, if switched from block default to block everything you can see yahoo news articles without the (toxic from usually being full of harsh political rhetoric, in fact the harsh political rhetoric and nothing but lies/conspiracies is why I ditched social media altogether) comments section (that is a huge bonus because I hate seeing what people post online).

Yikes. CNN Videos on cnn.com have defeated Ghostery - started a few days ago where all videos now play Ads and Ghostery does not block anymore. I gave it 4 stars after what seems many years of using with no issue, else I would give it a 5 :)

Best ad blocker

Blocks image ads perfectly. Video ads are a little iffy but I can't blame it because different platforms use different techniques, still works on YouTube which is good. I think the visual of the number of trackers is annoying to some users but it shows the insane amount of trackers websites use, maybe it could be compressed though to just say the number of trackers and allow the user to expand it.

It works. I'm always on a website called "soap2day" and I receive constant ads, I downloaded this extension and I received no ads!!

Does what it claims to do but sometimes breaks websites like Reddit.

Great Extension for PC.

Does what it says on the tin and block ads.But occasionally breaks websites e.g.the Uefa ticketing site today. Takes me a few minutes sometime to realise that Ghostery is the problem and disable it.

It doesn't block any ads. Ever since I installed it chrome has been crashing with the error STATUS_ACCSESS_VIOLATION and at the same time Ghostery crashes. Removing Ghostery has fixed my problem, just get a barebones adblocker like AdBlock.

While i love this extension i noticed that serval trackers turned themselves off. this is extremely disappointing as you'd assume ghostery actually values providing the privacy they claim to for their users. If it happens again i'll be taking my needs elsewhere just out of not supporting dishonesty.

Okay so I've been using ghostery for a while without a single problem but now today I'm getting pop ups and ads on websites I wanted ads to be blocked from..help

Great extension, but I having an issue that Ghostery keeps increasing memory footprint to >1GB which is a bit too much for 16GB machines, also a YouTube tab usage around 120MB to 500MB on my machines. I need to restart Ghostery after a while to release memory.

This is one of the first extensions you install on your chrome browser. It is a must have for all privacy concerned folks. Thank you so much for this great extension. I have enabled sharing of my anonymous usage statistics for the improvement of this extension/community. I have no problem with that. Your recent feature addition to show trackers on google search result, is a big NO for me. Please dont enable this feature by default. Also provide us an option for us to disable on our current installs.

Great product and customer service responded extremely quick about removing the wheel in search results. "Click the Ghostery icon in your browser > Click the three stacked dots > Click "Settings" > Click "General Settings" > At the top there is a check box, uncheck the box that reads "Show Trackers Preview Next to Search Results"

It worked in the beginning but then it just stopped.

Been using this for years, but noticed this morning Ghostery is adding icons and such to my Google search results and I can't figure out how to disable it. Ghostery Glow? I'm not going to waste my time trying to figure it out, so this is the end for me. I get these sorts of blockers to help clean up and remove things from my browsing experience, not add things to it. Time to look for an alternative.

Used this extension for about 3 years. Today, they decided users would want to see how many trackers are on each website in search engine results, like google for example. In what world would the average user want to see an obtrusive icon to tell them this information. Just because you have the data doesn't mean the average user cares about that data specifically. Imagine other extensions that a user has also being this obnoxious. It doesn't scale well. Please make it a toggle option or remove it. Because I've used this for so long, holding off on uninstalling for a week or so to see if this will be corrected.

No one has commented here since 2019 and its 2022 so I will say this in 2022 this app has become annoying with popups that try and force feed you "updates" that are frankly worse rather than better and after the update and it working EVEN WORSE YET AGAIN not blocking the ads but LETTING THEM THROUGH on sites such as "watchseries" where it was once the go to app for blocking trackers and ads you are better off seeking alternitives today the company is more concerned with letting trackers buy there way in than keeping them out of my web browsing experience sadly

Been a long time Ghostery user, but these new tracker icons that appear next to every search are extremely annoying and intrusive. Is there really no way to turn these off? Gonna have to start looking for alternatives soon.

Same as the last two reviewers. Who thought it will be a good idea to add those horrible new icons all over the google search page and not even think about allowing users to disable via settings? The beauty of using Ghostery is that is unintrusive, why bloat a page that I use multiple times a day with something so annoying?

Can't figure out how to remove the new ghostery icons all over the google search page so I will be removing it.

you used to be able to disable the purple box. now you cant.

It was working fine until 6pm (SGT) on 10th November 2021. It is not working on Chrome at all since then till now.

It stopped working in Chrome in mid October 2021. It still doesn't work in chrome, 11/10/2021. I sent a message to the Ghostery contact email and got no confirmation that they received my email and the extension obviously still does not function in Chrome.

Honestly amazing, the best adblocker I have used on this site and also comes with even more anti-tracking features. Keep it up!

Best chrome extension I've ever come across. The ui provides options and settings not found in other adblock apps. a MUST HAVE to those using old chromebooks, or those concerned about hackers/identity thieves. 10 stars

Thus far, the most flexible and most effective in real-world conditions. I appreciate that I can immediately customize per site as needed, or disable functions temporarily should that be required. Altogether, excellent usability and engineering.

I used Ghostery long time ago & recently saw it occupied more than 3GB ram, is there something wrong?

i mean it seems fine but how could you possibly think it's a good idea to force an icon into my browser. its so annoying when im trying to screenshot, screenrecord etc

It all ways stoped working after half a hour

This was good for the first day, until I saw that it took up 1000 Mb memory even while it was paused. It was paused so it wasnt doing anything but it still took up so much memory

Nice extension, but it on Twitch videos and Youtube, there seems to be performance hits, especially Twitch. Inputs on twitch page become near unresponsive after watching videos for some time.

can't find any way to ad things when it misses to block certain elements. That's a Giant flaw

There are many adblock extensions out there, and I´ve tried a lot of them, but without shadow of a doubt Ghostery is the best one. It is easy to customize, non invasive and has an unmatched accuracy, almost no ads have gotten past it. I can´t recommend it enough! I've loved using Ghostery for a really long time but recently youtube ads have been starting to slip through. And I think on that front it might need an update? Thanks.

Ghostery is top notch. I ran it side by side against Privacy Badger and Ghostery blocked more than Privacy Badger did. I am an EFF member, but Ghostery's product seems to have better algorithms or something?

Ghostery works fine for most websites, however on certain sites "Site Analytics" are blocked, leading to the website to break until Ghostery is disabled for that site.

The reason why I wanna give it 5 stars is because it blocks YouTube ads as-well, while most of the YouTube ad blockers don't actually work. This app still doesn't really block all the website ads and would love to see that in the next update but honestly overall good work team. kudos. :)

Starting today - March 25. It is causing Chrome search bar searches to re-direct to CharmingSearch.com, which re-directs all searches to bing.com, even if bing is disabled or removed as a search provider in Chrome. Verified by removing and re-adding on Ghostery that this is the source.

Attention developers!!! Make sure to turn this off when trying to integrate FB SDK!! This extension will prevent it from initializing correctly!!!!! I suggest you either whitelist legit SDK links so that Ghostery doesnt mess with them or disable it on localhost.

I've switched from using Brave to Microsoft Edge Chromium (due to the fact that Edge uses less resources than Brave and is faster than the former) and had added Adblock Plus, but it turned out to be a huge memory hog. A friend recommended Ghostery, which is remarkably lightweight and blazing fast. It blocks all ads and trackers on websites, and I've yet to encounter a broken site. Thanks!

I've enjoyed having ghostery, but recently, it seems like your extension is using more ram, so I suspect that something's up. I just restarted ghostery, and the ram usage went down by a gig or two. The chrome task manager said that Ghostery's memory footprint was 5.5GB or so, and that isn't good. Hoping you guys might have some idea as to what's going on. Thanks

I install it to get rid of pop ups ads tracking etc and now the only spam I get is from this plugin - which thans to this plugin stands out like a sore thumb. I go to see how to disable it and aparently you need to buy the company and sack the developers who removed the advanced tab. The only way.

I like the interface and how you can see how many trackers are spotted. Try for fun pausing ghostery on some sites and you will see how the number of trackers increases because in blocking mode Ghostery sees how many trackers the site itself uses. But whe those trackers are allowed to do their thing they all sneakily invite their friends and you end up with a higher tracker-count. And now we know why some sites are so slow. I love Ghostery for this. It protects me and also tells me what is going on.

Crashes daily but other than that it's a mediocre ad blocker

Works just as intended. Sometimes it'll block something that's a pop-up but not a malicious one, like the smaller pop-up Google Translate on websites in other languages. But you can click a button where it'll tell you that it blocked the pop-up and to simply click there to allow it if you're looking for a fix. Also one of the only extensions I've found that offer Anti-Tracking, Ad-Blocking, and a Smart Blocking option all for free! Would recommend.

lol this is sooooooo good, it is free and works well on most sites.

I've used this since around 2018 but the quality of this extension has slowly slipped ever further with every update. The massive memory leak that it's suffered under for who knows how long has never been solved and the ticket/issue about it on the github still holds true, if you use task manager inside chrome after having ghostery active for an hour you may be surprised at how many gbs it ravenously hogs. Add onto the matter that it has been constantly bringing up pop ups about rewards, offers, and other nonsense. It's practically become an ad software in it's own right along with how it almost methodically slows down your browser over time, with my end guess for such an oddity being the data that it collects on the user for unknown purposes. It is quite sad that such a previously shining extension has slipped so far, bring back the ghostery of 2018 please, as with an i5 6600k, 16gb of ddr4 ram, a ssd, and only four tabs opened ghostery somehow has managed to drag even a fresh install of chrome to a crawl.

Worked like a charm. I recently noticed that my Chromebook started to work very slowly. After I inspected the active processes, I discovered nearly two dozen active subframe processes from various advertisement trackers. Those stopped popping up after I installed this app.

Too many pop-ups. Yes, you can turn them off in the settings, though the option to permanently disable should also be given in the pop-ups themselves for ease / user experience. Leaving this review to make the point.

Has worked pretty well, I have to say. It does sometime cause certain pages to not work at all, which isn't too big a deal but lately Ghostery itself has started spamming me with ads. Keep this up and I'll remove the app altogether, I installed it to not get spammed.

This extension used to be good, back when it just work. And now everytime I open chrome it start to show popup. Like why should I care about a podcast? for a chrome extension?? WHY???

DOES NOT RECOMMEND at all! Extremely heavy addon! Eats GIGABYTES of RAM (and I have 16GB in dual channel)! Overloads Chrome to a point where youtube can't even load a comments when scrolling down comments section! TOTAL TRASH! It took me MONTHS to figure it out... It used to be not so heavy, but after update, after update, after update it became unusable! I disabled it in Chrome and now use AdBlock instead, which is lite and fast!
