incredible
Using this extension with an ErgoDox EZ gives me super power vibes. Performing repetative tasks in webapps just became a whole lot easier. Thanks, Mike!
The ability to trigger a JavaScript is great! I am now able to change focus with the Enter key, just like using the Tab key. This is very helpful when using the 10-key number pad to enter many values.
Sadly it doesn't work for what I wanted. I want to completely disable F7 (toggling caret browsing) and the addon doesn't do it :(
Disabling ctrl+d does not work.
It's good so far. But could we have an option that exclude for a specific website?
Didn't work on ctrl+d and none of the troubleshooting did anything. I decided to try "Disable keyboard shortcuts" extension instead and worked immediately. I also didn't have to type out the command. Just entered it and it was instantly disabled. I highly suggest using "Disable keyboard shortcuts" instead.
Could you please at least provide a shortcut library for the main internet browsers?
Works great! Follow the instructions page and do a little bit of learning about Chrome's actual keyboard shortcuts to make this work like a charm. I use it for web navigation. For instance ctrl+] moves a tab to the end of the list. As well I made ctrl+[ move a tab to the start of the list. I aslo set a keyboard shortcut to simply go back to the last used tab which can't normally be done with a shortcut but the developer figured out how.One little problem though. This extension does not work that well when ported over to Edge.
Is it possible to overwrite or delate cmd+d thats chromes default on adding a bookmark? It conflicts with a lot of other websites I use
Hello, very good except there is no option for "exit chrome" shortcut. that is the only missing feature I am looking forward to.
Awesome extension and options available. Replaced CTRL+R on killercoda to not kill my environment
cant disable any shortcuts wanted to disable ctrl+w but i couldnt it didnt work at all
I could disable a shortkey only in extensions shortcuts page, not in options of the plugin. Please fix the bug.
dose not work the slightest
does the thing
I don't think it works... at all
didn't help me
How NOT to write a keyboard shortcut extension! Every such extension that I have ever used simply allows you to type the key combinations into a box. This one requires you to first read a long document so you can learn how to add a simple shortcut in TEXT. You have to type in TEXT combinations like 'ctrl+shift+right' instead of just typing that key combination. Worse, the shortcuts don't even work, even after restarting Chrome. I'm using the latest version of Chrome: 106.0.5249.119. This extension hasn't been updated since August 2, 2021!
Uggg Vivaldi (made from google chrome) did an annoying update that had a cra+py keyboard shortcut that would go back a page! This is really bad when I'm trying to write a chapter in an online editor. 4-5 times an hour, really why the fk would they add in such a thing?! Maybe Google added it in and they didn't think to take it out. I want to yell at someone. Anyways, I used your extension to (hopefully) disable this brain-dead feature. I hope it works, if it does I thank you a thousand times and give a hug too. Added this extension page to my bookmarks. Eventually I'm going to make a little website listing all the awesome extensions I use, with descriptions what they do and such.
i just love this extention! only pitfall i noticed: setting the shortcuts in the option does not work reliable but once i set them in chrome://extensions/shortcuts it just works flawlessly (chrome on linux)
I love it. Just need to find that "button" from a page by right clicking it, inspect, copy JS Path, then use javascript document.querySelector("#NameofButton").click() and it worked magic for me! Thank you!
I thank the author for the good extension. It helped me a lot
Sounds awesome, however this extension does not work on mac I wasted about half an hours reading the documentation and trying to figure out what am i doing wrong... The Github wiki page should list the supported operating systems Hope this would be fixed.
Think, with next update needs add quick docs into settings page. But works well, thank you!
shortcuts not working. using mac....
this extension is amazing ! so helpfull but open bookmark shortkey notworking ! can u fix it ?
I am having a great experience with this extension. I am using it on Brave running macOS. I was looking for something that could make Brave a bit more like Nyxt Browser (not officially supported on macOS). I really like Emacs and Nyxt is totally "emacs philosophy". This extension allowed me to get closer to what I wanted on Brave. Thanks!
Is there a way to make a shortcut with double tapping a letter? (without modifying keys)
This is a must have extension for Chrome, and I'm a huge fan. However be aware setting Ctrl + S is NOT REVERSIBLE. I accidentally set Ctrl + S for "Switch to last used tab", and now I can't save on any of the editing websites that supports Ctrl + S. I tried to undo the change by uninstalling Shortkeys and even Chrome, but it didn't work. Mike, could you help?
ctrl+gで選択ワードを検索できるようになった。神すぎる!
how to write combination: alt + left mouse button? alt + ?
Great tool. Save me lots of pain. Thank you dear developer.
A life saver when installing Linux on a Chromebook and wanting the Google Chrome shortcuts in Linux :)
life saver ...
dont work with ctrl+w
This is definitely one of the best chrome extensions i have
I'm trying to disable shortcuts so I'm able to use internal shortcuts on a different external site, and even though they're set to "Do Nothing" they're still working.
JS doesn't work with bookmarklets. I was really hoping I could store and backup my saved bookmarklets, but this is not working properly.
Nice extension. Is it possible to change shortcuts in Google Mail? E.g. use "COMMAND" + "BACKSPACE" to replace "#" (aka delete mail, aka move to trash mail)? I didn't figure this out in short time.
I've tried to bind Mouse 4 and Mouse 5 for next / prev page, it didn't work for me.
Can someone explain to me how I can remove the ⌘+1,2,3,4,5... keyboard shortcuts on Mac? I tried using ⌘+1 and command+1 and then behaviour do nothing, but unfortunately they still work
April 25th 2021: I only use this for simple keyboard shortcut which are directly accessible through chrome://extensions/shortcuts . I've not tried the javascript features but from other reviews it looks like they're amazing. It works perfectly for me Edit: April 16th 2021: Started using the custom shortcuts features and it's beaut. Should've done this sooner
very useful extension❤️
Works well and super helpful. My favorites: backspace: last active tab, m m: mute, F1: move tab to first
Very good. Allows to disable keyboard shortcuts and whitelist and blacklist specific websites for it to work on.
Unable to make any shortcut work on Chrome/Mac. I reloaded tabs (and even Chrome) as instructed. No shortcuts, even basic ones, worked.
So useful. Replaced about 4 other "shortcut" extensions that I had been using & does more. Nice work!
I'm tweaking my OS shortcuts and this extension allowed me to tweak some Chrome-specific ones that the OS didn't control. Thank you! This is the 1st such tool I've seen that "just works". All these other "key remappers" and whatnot either don't work for multi-key shortcuts and/or have horrible UIs.
Magnificent. Really appreciate your effort. It saves a lot of time. Special thanks for the "search google for selected text".
Great extension. Toghether with Link Hints it allowed me to resign from Vimium with much better experience
does exactly what it says it does - run JavaScript - overwrite other hotkeys - etc
Exactly what I needed to disable CTRL+SHIFT+c since I keep hitting that due to muscle memory when cutting text from the terminal.
I added this extension to disable ctrl + d, so that I could use this shortcut in Notion. Even though I enabled the extension, it remains greyed out. I set it to disable the shortcut, but it has absolutely not effect. This is useless.
needs group tabs
In case you wonder,.. close tabs to the right will not work with pinned tabs
I need to delete already-existing shortcut keys. This does not do that.
Works great and is free & open source. Took me 5 minutes to work out how to use the Windows key on my laptop running Debian - the modifier name is "meta"
It does not work for chromium
how do make a command minimize a window?
i lick it
Works!
Doesn't work for MacOS Monterrey.
It's no use to me. I set ctrl+g to "do nothing", but shortcuts work the same way as before.
all i need is in this ext ! reopen closed tab , close tab , new tab , etc.
Sometimes you have to know/learn some inner chrome-code tricks to set it all. The extension works well and smooth.
Hi, I tried to create a short cut being ctrl+c to create a new window for chrome, instead of command+n, because command+n just makes a new window of whatever browser I'm in... and I'd like a keyboard short cut to create a new Chrome window when ever I want... but it didn't work... Can someone tell me what I did wrong? Thank you :)
I put 7 shortcuts I wanted to disable on chrome into shortkeys and added the behavior "do nothing" to them so that they wouldn't work. I disabled ctrl+o, ctrl+u, ctrl+e, ctrl+s, ctrl+n, ctrl++, and ctrl+- and after I saved, restarted chrome and made sure the extension had every single permission I could give it, I tried every single shortcut I disabled and they all worked fine, none were disabled. These were the only shortcuts I wanted to disable and none of them were disabled when I used shortkeys to disable them. Very frustrating. I am sure it works with some shortcuts but my experience with this extension was less than pleasing as it didn't work with any of the ones I wanted it to.
None of the set shortcuts work.
Pleas add this info to the UI: > In the text box, type the sites you want to allow or disallow, one per line. Note that wildcards are supported, so you can type things like *facebook.com* or *mail.google.com*.
Doesn't work. Chrome ctrl functions still work even when setting them to "do nothing"
Waste of time, lost all tabs trying to restart and use this!!!!
I've just started using Shortkeys and instantly loved it. It's feature rich using many very smart concepts. The usability is very good, and also the design, even the docs are very good. Thanks for building it!
doesnt work. needs fix
Doesn't work.
Doesn't remove existing shortcuts
just nice extensions thanks, i really want "Tab" key is use for to jump between field. for example Youtube , u need to long tab to jump next field then u can choose the video.
Does not work. ubuntu 20.4 + chromium Version 88.0.4324.182 (Build officiel) snap (64 bits). Wanted to define ctrl + "+" for another keyboard layout, where "+" is mapped to "ú"
it doesnt work when i save the shortcut keys
Doesn't work, even the example doesn't work.
I am trying to find a tool that simply adds a block of text when I hit a hotkey... On further looking, it appears this tool does not do this https://github.com/mikecrittenden/shortkeys/issues/85 And auto text expander does not work in Wikipedia edit windows with wikEd enabled. Hotkeybind works great but will not run on chrome... Meh
Unfortunately, user-added Javascript code doesn't have the option of running in the Extension's JVM context, so it would be limited to any objects in a web page, versus controlling chrome itself with hotkeys. For instance, I can't toggle the enabled state of any extension using a hotkey, as I'd be issuing the Javascript for that from web page code. There should be an option to specify JVM context.
This works with imacros or java combo
Great. Just 1 missing feature: import and export the settings. And a serious bug that makes it impossible to save many shortkeys (probably limitation of local storage for the extension) EDIT: following the fixes- my rating was changed to 5 starts :-)
Convenient
Brilliant extension! Worth the $2! Couple tips I figured out: Javascript variables can be set in a global scope with one shortkey command, and referenced by other shortkey commands (as if working in the console) within one browser / tab instance. When getting started, I had to jiggle the console open to get some shortkey Javascript commands to 'take'. Wish list: documentation for "Active while in inputs" toggle, ability to sort order of Shortcuts in options list and / or group by folder (I am going to have a ton of shortcuts!)
This was the only thing that held out any promise at all of doing what I needed, ie stop Chrome from hogging Ctrl+K so I could use for adding links in third party apps. Sadly, I had to pay to find out that it doesn't work, at least not for this purpose.
I need a shortcut for indent less and more like gmail when I am editing article in confluence. but it is not support by default. so I found this extension, hope it will be usefull. in my mind, we can create two short cut (command + [) represent indent less, when short key press, execute script: document.getElementById('rte-button-outdent').click(). (command + ]) represent indent more, action like indent less but, regrettably. it doesn't work on confluence edit page, seems like that confluence put the article in a iframe. so, if it is possible to support keyboart event within an iframe?
Excellent! I could make every shortcut i needed. Thanks!
Failed to work. Pair 2 bucks because it said it could disable existing shortcuts, and I wanted to disable control-W from closing tabs, but after setting that, saving it, and reloading everything, it still closes tabs. Wondering if this will be fixed or if I should get my $2 refunded.
I wish I knew about this a while ago. For me, this is a must-have, I didn't hesitate to drop a quick two dollars I'd otherwise waste on a candy bar. Disabled the annoying F1 key, made moving tabs around easy, all those chrome hotkeys I can override to my liking. Very good work! My only suggestion to the author is to add some pictures to the documents, and some examples of "Replace default key with XYZ" in a few cases -- I think itll make people realize, oh sweet.
Not working .... very upset for paying the money for nothing
Hi, I would need to be able to run a keystroke combination on a periodical basis. i.e. I need to press SHIFT+F5 every 3 seconds. Would this also be possible by this extension? Thanks for your feedback!
Excellent extension, very useful, everything works as expected. Thank you Tucker for great extension :))
Why does this charge money when we can download from the github rep?
This is very powerful. You can use javascript to automate webpage functions which can save you a lot of time on repetitive tasks.
I tried to get rid off the built in Command+Shift+C shortcut (map it to do nothing), but it does not work. It seems that it does not save it and or it does not work on certain sites (although set to work on all sites).
This gets 3 stars because it's made work somewhat more seamless, but I mainly paid for this to block certain shortcuts and so far it has yet to actually deliver on that front. Googled a bunch of blog articles on how to disable extensions in Chrome and they all pointed here and warned that a page refresh is necessary after saving/disabling new extensions, but that hasn't worked either. Disappointed but giving 3 stars since the main purpose is in saving extensions, not blocking them.
I used this plugin to run a script to do my daily job but it doesn't work any more after the auto update. And I don't even know what cause this.
I'm using the newest version. Custom shortcut for "LOCATION: Search Google for selected text" doesn't work as usual. Please fix it.
excellent extension! could be nice if add "translate in google translate" (like the shortcut "search in google")
A google search states this software you wrote can remove google chrome function key shortcuts but all I've seen in every single setting is add a shortcut. Awful search engine description on how to remove chromes function keys using this software.
This *was* a really cool extension. But the author introduced a major bug in it, which introduces incredibly difficult to track down errors on every page. This was reported in JANUARY 2019 (https://github.com/mikecrittenden/shortkeys/issues/235) and they've done nothing to fix it. Most likely the dev has died or abandoned the project :(
Doesn't work. I was trying to add some of my own keybinds and disable others and the "behaviors" drop down just shows up as a black square with nothing in it.
Useless. Doesn't work on MacBook Pro. Can't even enter any shortcuts into the shortcut window. Trying to DISABLE the zoom functions in Chrome and this app does nothing to make that possible.
it's not work in new version
Great extension! I'm using it for javascript code execution as well as the built-in tasks. Lightweight too. Thanks to the developer!
this can easily be 5 but gave it 3 if the keys can be done so that they work with unloaded tabs and with global key (within chrome at least) examples here: - duplicate tab and previous tab do not work when tab is unloaded, and when address bar highlighted. meaning if chrome thinks you selected address bar section it'll think you are trying to enter address thus rendering these short cuts unusable. - if the tab is not yet loaded (open a new and loaded previous session) you cannot use previous tab. "previous tab" will work only after tabs are loaded. - if theres somethign like "chrome://extensions/" as one of the tab or "chrome://flags/" etc tab mixed in there, it will allow ctrl + TAB to go next tab but disallow "previous tab" to work and i think it doesnt recognize that as a tab but rather as a setting within chrome. once these are fixed, easily 5 stars.
all I want is to have a quick shortcut for "Open Bookmarks Bar" I don't get why you excluded unfortunately the only one I'm seeking
This extension has been broken since early 2019, which causes it to break many websites you may visit when it is enabled. It was never updated for the Google Chrome security patch, as documented in this github issue on the extension developer's homepage, thus causing any website using CORS scripts to not function: https://github.com/mikecrittenden/shortkeys/issues/235
Very nice so far
A little tricky to get working - the FAQ needs updating I'd say. But it's exactly what I needed!
The "Run Javascript" feature of Shortkeys is great. It allows me to assign keyboard shortcuts to my UI.Vision web macros (another Chrome/Firefox extension). See here: https://forum.ui.vision/t/activating-bookmarks/1602
