Works fine, exactly as advertised, ignore low 3 star review
It works but its not the best on colored text
Works, thank you.
I like it. Basic but good for writing fanfiction at 3 am.
Just added it. Pretty straight forward and really saves me from eye strain.
Litteraly just doesn't even do anything
My rating may change, and it probably will in the future as I just installed it - but whether it'll be a more positive or negative change depends on how often I find features or bugs I don't like, but I digress. For now, out of all the problems I have at first glance, is an issue I've found with pictures. So far, all this extension has done is invert *all* of the color on a given page rather than just change the color of the page and the characters. I guess I can just turn it off when viewing pictures separately, but it'd be a nice quality of life feature to have the pictures untouched, if the brightness brought down just a bit.
God, thank you. My eyes thank you.
Hi! It needs updating as now a bunch of the icons are near invisible.(insert image, paragraph, etc)
1. The buttons to invert are hidden beneath Google Doc's new "add comment" toolbar on the right side of the screen, making this extension nearly unusable. 2. Dark mode does not play nice with Google Docs UI: some elements become illegible; others just look ugly. 3. On the page itself, dark mode simply inverts the colors. This is unsatisfying; a true dark mode (such as in Microsoft Word or iPad Google Docs) modifies other colors without inverting them. If you urgently have to use some kind of dark mode on desktop Google Docs, this will suffice. But for most people, this app is not worth using.
Great extension! Wish it extended on other google tools like calendar and spreadsheets to name a few..
My eyes are saved! As a college student staring at a bright white document for hours without end, this extension has saved not only my eyes but my head and just my mind altogether. It's super easy to use and is pretty personalizable (if that's even a word).
It's a little lazy, all it does is inverse the colours in google docs, there are a lot of better extensions then this.
This extension is much needed but Iván is there any way you could add some options in the settings to customize the colors? That would make this so much better and take it from great app to killer app.
FINALLY MY EYES ARE FREE FROM THE PAIN
I don't mind that it inverts the colors, but please give us an option so that the Doc itself is not inverted. If I need to share documents, the addon becomes useless. Does exactly as advertised otherwise!
Does the job 100%, the sidebar is little bit of an eyesore, but other than that it's wonderful
does its job but it just inverts the colors for everything sidebar is kinda ugly and distracting
This is exactly what I wanted when trying out other dark modes for Google Docs. This one gives the option to darken the background and/or the document itself, so I could customize it exactly the way I wanted dark mode applied depending on the document. Thank you!
works great
Does exactly what it says. Simple, clean, and easy. Would get 5 stars if there was an option to change the page color to something other than black, but otherwise great extension.
Writing at midnight and having my eyes pierced by the power of the heavens only to find a life saving dark mode extension god bless
This extension is not dark mode, it's just inverting the colors of the page, and there's also an annoying popup tab to the right that is advertising to donate to the creator through paypal.
Doesn't work with my laptop. I have the last version of both Chrome and Windows
Please fix word count display! The background is very dark as is the text, making it difficult to see. Other than that, great. See photo: file:///C:/Users/littl/Videos/Captures/A%20Chest%20on%20the%20Verge%20of%20Exploding%20-%20Google%20Docs%20-%20Google%20Chrome%202_14_2023%2012_58_29.png
Makes the page dark, but all it does is invert colors. Meaning that any comments, images, syntax highlighting, etc. are inverted too. Adds an eyesore of a pop-up bar to the right-hand-side of your document to enable/disable Dark Mode, to advertise their other extensions, and to donate money to them via paypal
pls include customization on the kind the various colors available for the dark mode because i dont like the current colors but dark mode is still good also include an option to open the control panel again after closing, or make it more obvious because i cant find it. other than that i think its good.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Worked so well. Very useful for night owls?
Does not work
Currently doesn't seem to work.
It just inverts the page, which isn't great. Not the most user-friendly extension either, you'll need to toggle it a few times to get it to work. Because of the inverting, text also comes out weird and images look odd. There are certainly better extensions out there.
Doesn't work at all. Literally changes nothing.
works great! tysm for this
Super helpful for late nights. Been a big help. Simple and straightforward to use.
Can't disable it. After installing it, the background became dark. Good. Didn't like it. After uninstalling it, the background STAYED black. I'm in dark mode hell right now.
Ehhh? I don't what to say, it's just bad. It works, technically (buggy, you need to switch off/on to make it work), but it looks just ugly.
Yumm
It works pretty well for me in Edge. However, I wish there was a setting for different dark shades. The system Black used for the actual document is too dark, it ends up feel like another contrast. I wish it was a really dark gray instead that way it would be easier on my eyes.
doesnt work
Listen it works but the dude plugs his damn paypall as a banner add
Worked perfectly for me. There is an issue with pageless, but that's not something that I have to deal with. My only complaint is that I'm used to dark reader letting me customize the amount of darkness, so this seems sort of bright.
it only worked once.
It didn't explicitly say that it only worked for Google Docs and not Sheets and Slides, waste of my time
Works pretty well in general but needs an update to better handle Pageless mode in docs. Using with Pageless mode creates uneven boxes of inverse colors.
Very cool and always works! Must have!
Awesome bit of kit!
Thank you very much for making this extension. The dark mode on google docs helps a lot in being able to see the borderline of the doc. Thanks again.
Doesn't work in the slightest. Buttons appeared on docs, nothing happened when I clicked them. Waste of time.
This app is such a lifesaver. I hope the developer makes one for Google Sheets too.
It works but it looks so awful I rather burn my eyes
Doesn't seem to work on Google sheets
It used to be great; you could turn on dark mode for both the background AND the actual doc/paper. Now you can only turn on dark mode for the background, and the doc/paper part of it still burns my eyes. Not sure why they removed it, gonna assume it's for money sake but deeply disappointed. I hope I find another extension similar to the old one. Edit: deleted it and redownloaded it after a while and the options are back. I love you
Thanks so much for creating this, but I'd prefer it if it looked more like the dark mode option in Microsoft Word online. The grey space around the completely black doc is a little hard to look at for long, in my opinion. Would be cool if there were some options for the darkness.
Extension was great till they added a donate button IN GOOGLE DOCS...
Very useful for doing homework at night, especially when it is due at 11:59 on the same day. :D
AMAZING!!! finally the new update came which let's you make the paper document dark. Thank you their is no further improvement can be done. I believe the app reached it's perfection thank to you creator. You saved so many peoples vision with this application.
I have been using this extension for quite a while now, the only issue I have with it is the Equation mode, which is almost unusable when the dark mode is enabled. Also, the colors for the text are inversed (white appears as black). Overall a great extension with a good potential when everything will be fixed.
really cool extension, very helpful for working late at night, ty for making this. i've been using it forever and I don't have any problems w/ it so I for sure recommend it
This works great, especially with the new update. The buttons are much more convenient on the side, and the scrolling issue is fixed. Overall great, haven't had any problems recently.
I loved it until the new update. The buttons at the right make it impossible to scroll. Please, please, please, please remove them or place them to the left. EDIT: I love the new version, thank you! No is working perfectly!!!!
It just stopped working all of a sudden. Went from dark to stark blinding white for no reason. Tried to uninstall then reinstall, restarted chrome and my computer, nothing fixed it!
It worked and I loved it, until the recent update added buttons on the side. I appreciate the thought, but they're colorful (which is distracting), they prevent the scrollbar from working (awful), and the paypal button was so out-of-place that I thought my computer had been infected with malware for a hot minute. I'm not sure why, but having monetization stuff pop up in my personal documents is too much for me to be okay with. If there's a way to revert to the previous update, I'd love to do that! EDIT: Big fan of the new update! Thank you for giving us the ability to remove the buttons. I've happily changed my review from 2 to 5 stars (:
Thank you for fixing the unclickable scroll bar, and a temporary disable for the buttons. Still using this for years!
Please get rid of the paypal and other buttons on the top right of the screen. I can't use the scroll bar at the top of the screen because of them. A pity, because this was my favorite google docs dark mode extension until that was added. EDIT: The dev fixed it. The scroll bar now works. Many thanks!
Many thanks to the Dev for quickly responding to the user feedback about the control panel making the scrollbar useless. Everything works great!
Best plugin ever. I dont use google but I use this plugin.
Glad of the option to close the buttons, but this seems to need closing every time a page is opened. Please allow users to close them permanently - we can use the settings bar to change modes, or to donate, and don't need visual clutter.
The big red color of the close button is quite distracting.. hopefully this can be changed. I appreciate the new updates!
I like it. Hopefully the issue with the scrollbar is fixed soon. I'd give it 5 stars if the document was a dark gray or even better, we could control the darkness of it. Black with white text is a bit jarring to my eyes.
It was great until the newest add-on near the scroll bar. It hinders the ability to use the scroll bar. I have loved it for quite a while, but will probably need to remove it soon as it is such a problem on all my documents.
Worked like advertised. Wished the background was darker than the grey they have there but much better than stark white background google has and a lot easier on the eyes. Noticed that when you hover over the icons on the right side a paypal icon pops up. Not sure why it is there or why you need that but it seems like they're trying to finesse money from you. Besides that, this is the most used and reviewed app on here so definetly the go to for getting dark mode on google docs.
This was a decent extension until the addition of the PayPal ad beside the scoll bar. It effects the use of this scroll bar. If this ad is not removed or relocuted to a less cumbersome location, I will remove this extension in 3 days time.
The buttons you added make it impossible to click the scroll bar on the right. Also, they also look jarring. You could at least them fade when you don't hover over them.
Would have given it a five but the three buttons on the side make it impossible for me to scroll down on documents. Instead it messes up my document which is an absolute pain. Please remove these or at least find a way for a user to move them or make it collapse.
Love the app, get rid of the new buttons, they're unnecessary and jarring, and from the fact this dropped from a 5 star to a 3 star after this update goes to show how negatively the update was taken.
I'm not sure why anyone's clicking on a scrollbar in 2022. Page down, page up, and a whole scroll wheel exists... but, that being said, your buttons shouldn't block a functionality (I wasn't even aware because again, I don't know who clicks and grabs a scrollbar in 2022). Perhaps make them smaller and toggle-able, as well as not too close to the bar for everyone else crying about it.
been using it for a few years or else i'll actually die from the brightness, but the buttons off to the side cut off the bar for scrolling. please fix that and it's all smooth sailing.
I'm only writing this as a form of feedback since there seems to be no other option for it, it's on my second paragraph. I love this extension and I've used it for a long while now, I prefer having the background dark and a white page, it never really bothered me; but it's nice to have an option now for those that want an all dark document. The REAL reason why I'm writing this review though is because of the buttons on the side, they're jarring and I much, much preferred it when they weren't there. I never found it too much of a hassle to click a few more times to get to the extension menu on the URL bar; it's not like I'm gonna be changing themes often anyway. I wouldn't get rid of it though because I can see how useful it might be for some, but please, PLEASE at least give us the option to turn it off.
While the app finally works properly for me after months of it just changing the background but not the page to dark mode, I have a slight complaint against the buttons next to the scroll button. It's interfering with my ability to drag-scroll near the top of the document. It's not a huge issue for me as I can just click below and then drag once I have control of the bar. I suggest offsetting the button location a little more or put it on the left side of the window instead.
I like it... BUT, I can't even access the bar because the buttons block it. I can't scroll documents even though the buttons technically not on top of the scrollbar. You need to fix that.
i loved using this extension because of the way it changed the background to a grey instead of pure black, but the toggle buttons on the side make it impossible to scroll long documents all the way down with the scrubber. get rid of those buttons and this is a 5/5 extension, but until then the most i can give it is a 3/5
I loved this extension, but the new update broke it. I can no longer scroll down my documents!
i have a 461 page document that i now can't use the scroll bar for, thanks!
So far it seems pretty good, although it would be nice if instead of pure black on the page it was more of a very dark grey.
I loved this extension but the last update ruined it. It has glitched out google docs and I cannot scroll down any more because of the toggle buttons they've added to the side of the screen. And it's very obnoxious that they try shoving paypal in your face to get donations. Uninstalling and finding a new extension.
Great extension, saves me from blinding my eyes at night I see a lot of people complaining about the scroll bar, personally I don't mind it that much My critique is that the black of the paper is too harsh, perhaps try having it around the rgb 54,54,54 and 33,33,33 range if possible Another small one (and just more personal), the taskbar looks a lot like Photoshop's, which isn't bad but the long loading screens Photoshop has cause my computer hasn't left a good impression on me Otherwise, great extension, thank you for saving my eyes.
Love the extension. please remove the buttons by the scroll bar and make the numbers for the word count on the bottom left brighter, they're too dark. Thank!
Uninstalling rating a 1 star. This extension interferes entirely with google docs functionality in a way the developer can put a flashing button that says "You should pay me.". I hope someone comes out with something else.
After using this extension for a long time, I'm just uninstalling it because of the developer's decision to add annoying buttons interfering with scrolling bar.
Pls fix the buttons interfering with scrolling bar. its annoying! And do u have crypto address, i would gladly send some donation via it.
The new buttons should-- and let me be very clear about this-- never, ever interfere with the scrolling bar. This is utterly amateurish, and beyond believe that something like it could ever be released publicly. You can shove you donation button there all you want and care, but no one will give a penny to it when it is implemented in this fashion.
To be honest i really dont mind the new buttons and it was probably a smart though ballsy move to add the paypal button. Once the scroll bar gets fixed, the buttons don't even look that ugly. My only critique is that the inverted colors change people's profile picture when they comment. It looks pretty bad. thanks for the awesome extension, very smooth.
Is there a way to turn off the annoying buttons? It was better when on/off was controlled from the extension icon.
The extension finally works again! Oh but your stupid donation button overlay covers the scroll bar not allowing me to drag the page down. Fix it!
used this for years, but this new update has made it almost unusable. the buttons look annoying, esp the paypal one, but the buttons literally make you unable to grab the scroll bar , which is a big issue for people who have 100+ page documents like me. please fix.
This extension has been great but as of today it got updated that adds 2 function buttons and a paypal button basically on top of the scroll bar making it impossible to grab the scroll when its at the very top. I would appreciate it if it was moved in a spot that isn't intrusive.
The buttons directly on the doc now make it so I can't use the scroll bar and the paypal button is super annoying. ?
Great, until it wasn't. Not knocking the creator for asking for donations, but putting the control buttons on directly on the document page made it impossible to use the scrollbar. Bad move.
Terrible. Adds a very intrusive Paypal donation button to the creator that makes clicking on the scroll bar nearly impossible when its at the top of the screen. Absolutely goddamn ridiculous.
It inverts colours but is far better than nothing. Deserves a 3/5 but the eye pain it saved me bumped that to a 4.
really useful, doesnt look the best but way better than pure white blinding screens. just make sure you turn off the page color inverter off
This extension makes basic writing at night easier. It is nothing fancy, and it might not even meet your specific needs (so many people complaining here, like come on show a little gratitude, geez). Nevertheless, the app can help save your eye from strain while doing basic, text-only work in Google Docs. TIP #1: Pin the extension to your toolbar for easy access with the two toggle options. Good for after dark. TIP #2: Buy a cheap pair of amber-colored plastic blue-light filtering goggles to wear over or under your glasses. (Your eyes and sleep quality will thank you.)
PLEASE? Developer, please write another piece of code to allow the "Page Count" 'bubble' on the page slider to stay visible or to even be inverted (black letters on white background INSIDE THE BUBBLE) when in dark mode? Regular mode has the page count showing as white on black INSIDE THE BUBBLE but the moment you hit dark mode the Page count bubble DISAPPEARS. This makes navigation to a specific page number (when you're collaborating with another writer) impossible! It's quite aggravating when your co-writer says "come to page so and so" and you have no idea where you or they are! Please fix this? Thx! Otherwise GREAT extension! I turn anything I read online (FFN, AO3) to dark mode; it makes it so much easier to read! Bless you!
Was initially going to leave a poor review to complain about the update automatically setting your page bg as black. But if you keep the extension pinned to your toolbar, you can toggle the page color back to the original white color while maintaining the original dark themed elements. Wish the update made this settings option clearer!
can you not invert the colors or make it an option. like what.
Inverting the colors on the doc makes this unusable if you need to work with colored text.
5 stars until you inverted the damn colors of my documents.
I've been using this for about a year, and I like the dark background; however, inverting the page (while it's apparently the only way to get the page white without directly changing the document color) inverts the entire Docs screen. I also can't see the text indicator thing with the page black, which is pretty irritating... like I literally can't see where I'm typing lol
Was originally a 5-star but it now features inverted colors. Something I can get behind. I hope this gets reversed
Okay so I've changed my rating from 3 to 5 because I've realized that there is a toggle option! If you pin the extension and click it, there's a toggle for dark mode or light mode *and* a toggle for a white or dark paper. (However, with a recent update, the dark paper contains inverted colors.)
Before the update I kind of remember that it was much better, even if I disable inverted colors, this new way it's really bad in my opinion, but otherwise the extension was/is/could be really good again.
If you remove the stupid "inverting colors" part, this would be the most useful extension on Chrome. Now, it's godawful.
I used to really like this, but recently it just inverts the colours of images put into the document as well, which is kind of ruining my experience. Also, it means that if your google doc was a coloured background beforehand, it doesn't make your google doc dark, it just makes the background the inverted colour, eg cyan to red, etc. Also, it doesn't turn the cursor white, so it's a blinking black line on a black background, so you can't see it.
It was ok for the most part but for some reason it now just inverts the colours, which doesn't look great for images
It looks the same as Microsoft Word dark mode if you only darken the border around the paper, which is what I was personally looking for when I wanted a Google Docs dark mode, so I'm happy with this extension.
I like the black page (doesn't hurt my eyes like the white page does) but the indicator should turn white with the dark-mode extension. When it stays black, it completely blends into the black page and you can't see where you're typing ? Maybe having a dark grey page as an alternative to the black and white pages would help, too? Otherwise I really like it!
Black page is a no-go, friends.
This is a very useful extension that's easy to use and easy on the eyes for late-night writing. I really enjoy it. However, I think it would really benefit from a cursor shown so I don't lose where I'm editing my works!
The latest update has inverted the page color scheme. As someone who uses dark mode and a black background with white text, the only way to now achieve a similar effect is to select the opposite colors and even then, it's impossible to see the keyboard cursor and colors are also inverted. Unless it gets fixed promptly (honestly, how does an update like this not even get beta tested?), I'll be switching apps.
I liked it more before the color change, I can't change it back because nothing is popping up when I click extensions, I'm on chrome so I don't know what's wrong.
I like that you guys added a black page feature; but please make the flashing indicator light also white so we can see it against the black background. As an author I've used this extension for a year or so, and it's been really nice. Thanks!
Liked that the page can turn black but the flashing line should turn to white also or else I cant see where I am typing.
I don't understand everyone elses issues with the page being black. If you just click on the extension in the menu it shows you the option to disable the inverted page color, while keeping the menu items black. Maybe its just me, but this extension works flawlessly ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Love the idea, but maybe a dark grey for the document color as a medium in between the black and white.
I liked having the black background and white page. This new update is horrible.
Enjoyed this extension quite a bit, but now the page color is turned black without a way to adjust. Hopefully will be fixed.
Please reverse the update!!! I'm part of the crowd that preferred a dark background and white page, but now it's completely inverted with no settings for adjustment. All images and colors on the page are inverted; please fix this!
I almost had a panic attack thinking that my cat did something and inverted the colors on my google docs. I looked up everything not even realizing that this extension was the problem. Instead of it being a genuine dark mode, everything now just looks inverted. The user experience has decreases dramatically. I enjoyed the original design and am whole heartedly begging you to change it back.
Before the update, this was a 5 star extension. Beautifully simple and helpful! The new update has made it impossible to see your cursor, and turns the white page into an ugly black. It's understandable why this was done, but please add a way to keep the page white.
I literally can not see my cursor. Please fix this extension, it's painfully clear that you ran no effective tests in terms of practicality before updating this. Either revert it or improve it. There was no need to make it entirley unproductive.
I'm adding to what a few others have complained about when today (Nov 7, 2022), an update turned the page black too: the author didn't realize or test this I think. Otherwise they'd know that the cursor remains black--how can you see it when the page is also black??? Other problems: the author seems to have simply reversed some colours to get the white text on a black screen. The thing is, the colours for highlighting and font colours are now also reversed. Changing text to "red" results in text that is "green". Highlighting is similar reversed. I'm not sure how it looks when it is viewed without this extension. I would like the author to have done some simple testing first before pushing out an update.
Its great, but recently it changed my page to black without asking me and I cannot find a way to change it back to white. Its super oppressive and it makes it impossible to see your cursor which makes it difficult to use at times, according to one of the screen shots I can change the page colour with one click, it would be kind of helpful if you ... I don't know... told me how to do that??
Pretty okay. The completely pitch black page background is too much, tho. And the white text on black background is totally unreadable. Something weird going on with antialiasing. Eh, maybe I can find something better.
Works great, changes both menus and page background color. I wish it had a menu option to adjust or toggle page background color change as that's currently just a little bit too dark for the document I'm currently working on, so it being adjustable would be fantastic.
Ah. I was hoping this could produce the same result as "Dark" Theme on the mobile app ... without having to manually change all the backgrounds and text colors in all my Docs. Obviously this extension does work, but ... well, it's somehow less useful (more work) than just resizing the browser window to minimize the amount of visible white borders. A complete and total theme overwrite, with customizable color settings, would be a 5-star extension.
Trash. It only makes the outline dark. What's the point in that?
Doesn't work on Brave.
Just doesn't work
Keep doing what you're doing! This is so handy and it makes Google Docs so much more enjoyable.
It works on the documents themselves but not the 'menu' screen of documents. Also, for people complaining about the document remaining white, you have to go to page setup (don't recall if it's under file or edit, I usually just type directly into the help search bar to find it) then set your page color settings and then 'select set as default' to whatever color you want. I personally use an orange cream or sage green color as it doesn't bother my eyes and it makes me feel more focused. From one broke college student to another, I respect the hell out of this extension. Cheers
Saved my eyes, but doesn't work on the 'main' homepage where it shows your recent documents
This is a really useful tool 90% of the time. When you go into pageless mode, you can no longer read the text. This can be overcome by making the text white, but then you can't collaborate with anyone!
This used to work. Now the page itself is still white, but when I first used it (I think over a year ago) it made that dark too. Seems silly to only darken part of the screen.
While I have never gotten the "needing access to my browser history" issue that some people are complaining about, and it seems that it only requires access to google docs at this point, it's true that it no longer works.
Really improved my focus and productivity, awesome interface!!!!
BRO??/ IT DOESNT WORK AND WHY DOES IT NEED MY BROWSER HISTORY????????
Don't understand all the highly rated reviews, it doesn't work. Or rather, it only works for the Crome home screen/ Google. Docs, Wikipedia etc. are still bright white.
Simply doesn't work.
"The publisher has disclosed that it will not collect or use your data" Ya no.... It now needs accuses to your bowser history. Before that this was a 5 star extension.
Asking for my browsing history? yeah no.
Don't ask for my browsing history. does anyone have any alternatives?
