literally doesn't work
The extension is not working anymore. Plese, fix it!
COMPLETE bait & switch offering! I installed this extension from the Opera Extension offerings for TTS readers. It was the first one that came up. I started using it with an eBook reader online and got 13% through the book when up popped the paywall demanding $4.99 to continue. I went to the "DETAILS" page of the installed extension and there was NO mention that this was a trial. Further, the paywall that pops up does NOT say who's asking to be paid. I first though it was the eBook site, but I was ALREADY paying for that. With NO identifier as to who was asking for $.4.99, I chose to pay by credit care "assuming" there it would show who was being "paid" if I had gone through with it. It did not. I started looking through the support page for my eBook reader to see if I could find where THEY were trying to charge $4.99, found nothing. RIGHT before I was about to write support for my eBook reader online I decided to go to the website for the extension and only there, at the VERY BOTTOM of the description, did I finally see "TRIAL." If this had been on the original extension site, or in the Details for the extension, I would have seen it and not used it. Since it's literally HIDDEN so you have to HUNT on the extension website, you won't know it's a trial until, like me, you're 13% into a book, playing in the background while working on a project I didn't have TIME to stop working on to research this Bait & Switch offering. Therefore, I consider this company's business practice HIGHLY misleading and predatory. If youj have to TRICK people into using your product, then what kind of future do you have? Either be UP FRONT about your offering, or don't put it out there. If I can give ZERO stars I would since I'm SO aggravated about the time it's taken me to figure this out. Once I did, I took MORE time to write this NEGATIVE review to hopefully save others the same fate. I hope this extension is removed from the Chrome and Opera offerings. #karma
I actually found this extension to be very useful reading an ebook on Overdrive for me. It would have been nice if I could have used it on my mobile device and not only on my lap top, but I did find it useful and of good quality overall. I only rated 2 stars though because I am highly dissatisfied with how hard it is to figure out how to cancel your subscription. I shouldn't have to waste hours of my time trying to cancel a subscription I am not using anymore. There is no information on how to cancel in the extension itself, google chrome store, or the website link in the extension description on google chrome store. I just finally found how to stop paying for this extension I am not using anymore in the review comments. The undisclosed and difficult cancelation process makes it seem that this extension is trying to make money off inconveniencing their customers rather than quality of product and service.
Works for the most part. I'm a paid subscriber. Every few pages it seems to inexplicably skip the end of the sentence or paragraph and suddenly I'm starting a new sentence where the previous one was not completed. It's disorienting and someone should look at this as a bug. Please help. Latest Chrome on Windows 10.
As a low vision individual, text to speech is something absolutely necessary for me. Without TTS Ebook Reader I would be unable to use either scribd or overdrive. These services offer low (or no) cost ebooks but are simply not accessible for those with vision issues. Therefore, this extension has been simply wonderful. Yes it is not free (4.99 a month) but for me this cost is worth it because as a bibliophile I can now access ebooks that were not available before. There is frankly no other option especially for scribd or (as far as I know) overdrive. In addition to the utility of this extension, I have also found the customer service to be excellent. I have emailed (see the product page in the Chrome Store for the email address) the developer with questions and have received prompt replies. In short for this user 5.00 a month is a reasonable price to pay for access to the vast libraries of the services I use.
I have been trying to cancel and I was unable to find where to.
no se puede usar en https://es.scribd.com/document solo en https://www.scribd.com/books espero lo arreglen pronto pues es lamentable que eso suceda.
A very dishonest business model when a company displays no information about a "suscription service" or a "free preview" until you run out and all of a sudden, what's perceived as a free resources has a paywall. This is why setting expectations is so important on the front end. I've really enjoyed the product, but definitely not pleased by the surprise. Feels like I'm experiencing "foot in the door" behavior that wants to rope me in. This would be a simple fix for TTS Reader, whatever their intentions, so that they don't accidently deceive people in the future.
It's pretty disgusting how much time companies like this spend on trying to get paid and how little time they spend on making sure that you get what you pay for. Of course I used the product for a few pages and this free product popped up that I have to pay $5 a month or $60 a year which is a lot for one little app so I decided to pay the money and the way it popped up with stupid PayPal it looked like there's no way it's going to tie my payment to the product. Of course that's exactly what happened so now I'm paying $5 a month and I still can't use the product I'd like a refund of course there's almost no way to contact these people and if you leave a review, by the time they get back to you, you won't even remember what it was you wanted. How could a company create a product and not spend more time on making sure the product is available to paying customers when so few of your customers are going to actually pay for this ;very very few ;for the ones that do, you would think the company would have given a little thought as to how to deliver the product to us? I got three emails from PayPal telling me I paid now I don't know if I paid three times I now have to go over the very long digit numbers and make sure that they are the same all sorts of stuff on how I paid how I'm going to continue paying what it's going to cost but absolutely not a single thing on how to contact the merchant or how to get the product to work; absolutely disgusting. If you're reading this I would like an immediate refund. Even if somehow you can get this to work why did I have to spend so much time on this? You've given us no way to link the payment to the product so how can it possibly work. And such an annoying thing to keep having something pop up telling me i owe money when I just paid , like a sledgehammer that thing keeps letting you know that you need to keep paying paying paying to get, nothing nothing nothing. I could pay 100 times it's going to say the same thing. Scam because they never took time to fix this and most of this product is based on Google speech recognition so not a lot of work to develop something like this.
This is a great extension and very helpful. I would ask to allow us to go faster than 1.99x speed. A lot of times I listen to books at 2.5x or even 3x. But this is just a request, this extension is excellent!!!
I didn't know it isn't free. It's a good app, but we don't know how the subscription is structured, is it one off payment or monthly etc. If the app is free then certainly I will continue to use it otherwise I have to uninstall.
They should state at the beginning of their blurb that this requires a monthly subscription.
Unexpectedly refused to continue working until I paid. Should have said that I was only getting a trial somewhere on the Overview page.
Great app, but it surprised me by stopping suddenly and demanding a subscription to continue use. Thank you, but no thank you.
Tips: To use this extension on Chromium browser or Vivaldi, install Speakout. Works like a charm on ARM Linux now. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/speakout-a-text-to-speech/mfmhdccjjncabfmhiggoinjejdjdapca?utm_source=chrome-ntp-icon
EDIT: I was able to get the extension to detect my Kindle library by following the dev's troubleshooting steps. I'm happy with its functionality but disappointed to find that the subscription is only available through PayPal (for... some reason?) - I'm willing to shell out $5/mo for this extension, considering no one else's is able to read Kindle books without issue, but I'd appreciate some alternate form of payment as an option.
The Library doesn't display books in my Play Library but I do see the option to Play once I enter most books in the website page. Oddly enough although it depends on the Google voice API it's still fairly different compared to the Read Aloud option on Android, but it basically a free e-Book to audiobook converter so I can't complain too much, well done!
Works well for me!
Crashes when you try to use it with Amazon Polly Voices.
