I love this visual bookmarks it's the best addon for me in google chrome. When i first added it, it made feel good, as if it's the first time i see my bookmarks in nice way. Thanks for the animated/gif background option i loved that updated so much. But the camera button that updates / Generate the thumbnails is not working for some reason, is it not working just for me or for everyone ? Thanks for reading.

this one worked amazing. I was switching from opera and this replaced their speed dial, perfectly. I was also able to import the bookmarks in HTML file. and refreshing the image of thumbnail was mind blowing feature. Five stars!

The browser warns me that this app will run in the background, start when my computer starts up & will run independent of my browser. why do you need to have this level of access?

Today 07 June i lost every thumbnail that i ever had for my bookmarks. I would get the pic off Twitter or Facebook, and spent an age collecting them, but now they have all been removed. Please can you tell us how to restore these (without restoring each one manually), thankyou. p.s I LOVE this extension. Also can't seem to delete old review and write a new review/comment without Google still tacking on your old reply to me.

Posted a review a couple days ago about an issue using the extension, and that was thankfully resolved! However, I can't seem to generate any thumbnails no matter what I try - including giving the extension all the privileges it needs, etc. Any info about a fix would be great. Also, is there a way to find where the generated thumbnails are stored on the machine?

This was my favorite new tab extension on the web store, but it suddenly started giving me the error of "Can not find the folder by id." I uninstalled it once to fix it, and it was fixed for a few hours, but then it started giving me the error again. I'm not going to commit to this if I have to keep uninstalling and reinstalling to fix it. Will be switching to a new extension.

Opening local files in new tab or new window using shortcut still opens it in the same tab. This issue also exists in the default download page so I don't mind it much. I found out the custom CSS option recently and really loved it. Was wondering if there's a way to insert custom html too as I'd like to add some elements. Please look into it. It's an amazing extension that deserves 5 star regardless!

Was using Opera until I switched to Arm processors :/ Question: If I wanted to port my bookmarks to another computer, is it possible to move your bookmark/thumbnail database to avoid re-scanning each website? In Opera, there are favicons files that store their url/thumb data.... Currently using Chromium on a Debian distribution.

Tested loads of bookmarks + startpage plugins, but they are all mostly useless. Finally came across "Visual Bookmarks" which gets straight to the point in a clean design. Selective bookmarks on new tab, and a useful "search bookmarks" for quick access. Well done! ?

The extension has great potential. I switched from SpeedDial2 because a recent update (unrequested and can't revert back) changed UX for the worse. Pros: 1) search, 2) use a bookmark folder as source, 3) Many customization options, 4) ability to sync Cons: User can't 1) Set logo size in icon/thumb pad (32x32 is too small, can't enlarge, set size, or fill pad), 2) Set size of pads (HxW the reminder would be distance between pads given a set number of columns), 3) Set which pads must use icon and which thumbs in one go (must be done one by one), Additional suggestions: There should be a way to create groups based on subfolders (which would act as "separator" of sections" (perhaps each folder could be turned into an area with different user-settable background color and a label on top for all pads/thumbs belonging to a given folder? That way the various subfolders contained in a "startpage" folder would create different sections with different color background. For instance a folder named "travel" would have pads/thumbs on a light blue background, the folder "finances" would have a gray background for all its pads/thumbs, the folder "social" would have its pads on a green background and so on. Or perhaps an even better approach might be to create tabs with one for each subfolder so that each would have its scrollable "page" with a small title (the folder name in the tab) so that users can swipe left-to-right (with maybe a user-selectable option to swipe right-to-left since some cultures use that order?) or tap/click on tabs to jump from one section to the other (when swiping would take too long to reach it). I hope the feedback will help improve this already very good start page extension ;)

This is one of the best bookmark extensions I have used. Clean, great features, etc. Suggestion: Maybe add a way to scale the FAV icons since I do not use the screenshot feature. The icons are very tiny on my 5K screen. I know there is not many pixels to work with but even if you could do a 2x or 4x magnification it would not be too bad. Thanks for the great extension!

Hello, loving this extension so far, thanks for publishing it Would you consider allowing to show Number of Columns = 2, instead of 3 at the lowest as it is now? I know that seems so few, but there are certain bookmarks I have (book detail pages) where a picture of the book is shown in the screenshot - but it is too small even at 3 columns to quite make out the text. If I could set it to 2, so basically four bookmarks would appear on the screen at once, I could easily read the book titles on the image. Thank you,

Hello friend. First of all, I want to congratulate you on the idea of ​​creating the Visual bookmarks extension for Chrome. It's a good idea. However, I think it could be improved further. I am UI and UX designer. The experience of using Visual bookmarks can be much more pleasant with minor layout adjustments. I noticed that the layout has a shadow at the top, this influences the background images I want to put in Visual bookmarks. I think it would be much better not to have that effect. Keep it clean and flat. If we talk about UX I think it would be useful to be able to organize the folders we create alphabetically. It would also be interesting to be able to assign icons to each folder, imagine if I have a Photoshop-related folder, this folder can have the icon/image as the folder's cover which I quickly identify. I also noticed that when I set the Panel width to 100% it covers the settings button and the capture_fill button, to get back to normal I had to go to the extensions option and in the 3 dots see that there was an option to enter the settings again. Still in the UX field, something that should never be missing is a help button, instructions and even a quick way to give input on possible errors that users will notice. Returning to the UI, the boxes that represent the folders should be cleaner, have a much finer line and without the gray bar where the folder name is. I think that with these changes you will have many more users using your extension. Change this. Compliments.

So many other speed-dial/visual bookmark managers don't even do what they say they do.

My life is simpler now. I love it so much. It helps me a lot to keep my tons of bookmarks tidy and also find them in a visual way, this extension must be a google default. I really appreciate it, amazing job!

I rarely write reviews for extensions, but this one is really exceptional!

I used this to replicate Firefox's top sites functionality when I recently switched to Brave. I found most other speed dials either dubious or ugly, so I settled on this one and am pleased. Sure, to do what I was doing meant making a specific folder for the links I want shown, but that was just a bit of setup. The options in this are very good. I'm happy.

I have one problem I was re-installed my chrome browser.Then The thumbnail photo which I added from my computer was removed from group thumbnail?

I love it! but it needs an option to re-order the bookmarks(only inside app), I need it to show the lastest bookmarks first. Also is there a way to not open the app extension in new tab? I want to open it with the app's button. Thanks!

Useful extension

Minimalism at its best. This extension is just sublime. A no fuss add-on, easy to use, clean and neat UI, not overloaded but simple display of bookmarks (any folder one wishes to). Thank you for the effort and work you put into this, much appreciated ^_^

IT SEEMS NICE, I have just installed it and it looks interesting. ONE DRAWBACK... is that you can't choose if the extension controls Chrome's "Open New Tab" or not. It would be much better if the user could choose whether they want it or not. I'm still making up my mind if I will use the extension because of that. I might choose to use it, ou maybe I will give it up, because I like my new tabs clean. I don't know. Let's see.

I was looking for something with folders, and now I found it. Folders within folders too, fantastic! The Search is a great bonus since I've not seen that in other speed dials. I am just getting thumbnails from Twitter bios or google images to make sure that they 'stick'. Thanks for making such a fantastic product!! Please can you : Give us the option to colour our folders - else it's not intuitive. (edit: not important really, on reflection) Let us send a dial to another folder, with a right click, instead of copying its url and pasting again. Fix the column view. Picking anything over 6 column view is not working (but the numbers below 6 all work). My only other worry is that because we don't have user accounts we can lose everything in a Google update someday? EDIT - after your response. Now I see that the Drag and Drop (that you call it) is really a right-click- Edit on any dial or folder, then select the folder you mean from the drop-down! Once again, just fantastic, thankyou!! EDIT 21 Sept 2019 This extension has changed my life - I can't rate it highly enough. Can I make a suggestion? I sometimes search for a bookmark and then (when it's found in the search) i like to see what folder i filed it in - since i'm searching it because I forgot. I right click-edit to get the folder name (since i don't know any other way) but this never works and only gives me the name of the folder that I'm in when I did my search. It would be great if the correct folder could come up. Thanks! EDIT 05 Oct 2019 Since Google rolled out an updated browser for Windows 10 i am contantly getting the "new background app" dialog pop-up for VB when I open my browser now. As if i just downloaded it basically. Would you be able to fix this and turn it off. Many thanks. (Edit: 05 Nov This has stopped now, some time in October) EDIT 22 Jan 2020 I've noticed that VB thumbnail jpegs will be removed if, for any reason, you clear the cached images in your Chrome browser! I use A LOT of thumbnails (that i just get from Twitter bios or google images) to make sure that they 'stick' on each bookmark. Was recently updating my google accounts - and cleared the photos cache to have my avatars update - when i lost a tonne of my VB thumbnails aswell. I also have them saved on my hard drive, thankfully, but now I've to spend an age putting them all back into VB, which is gutting really. Is there any workaround for this?? Thanks.

Bro, this is the first time i actually rate anything, like ever i think. This is truly very deliberately thought through, its literally Google-level UI design. I am blown away by how you manage to keep the simplistic feel going through out the whole UI while at the same time not sacrificing any usability or features, some competitors dont even offer the features this extension has. if you made this solo; kudos to you my dude.

So far works better then some other extensions I've tried, many are quite similar but have broken or missing functions. This one is very similar to Simple Speed Dial, but that has not been updated for over 5 years! Allot of speed dials have broken thumbnail preview methods (they rely on bad API sites) so its good that this one appears to generate previews correctly. And it has a Add to bookmarks option, nice. Only think I could suggest atm off top of my head is to allow the search-bar to be a actually google/duckduckgo search bar and not a bookmark search-bar, or perhaps both?

Great extension. If you need to just place your bookmarks on a new page and make it more visual - this app is definitely what you need.

I need a couple features for this to be my favorite! I'd like to use it to help organize tons of bookmarks, and I see you've mentioned a few of these idea in the comments here. 1) I need to be able to create folders (right click, add folder) 2) I need to be able to drag and drop bookmarks into a folder 3) I'd like to be able to multi select, cut/copy and paste bookmarks from on folder to another 4) I'd really like it if zooming in and out by (ctrl-scroll wheel) would adjust the number of bookmarks per row 5) ability to change the sort by (date, or inverse date / normal sort order / or folders first/last) 6) Great job, I really like this plugin so far!

Can you not replace my new tab page? I want to keep my new tab page as it is. For example, can you use the option page, create another page or something like that and provide the same functions of the extension? much appreciated! This extension looks very promising! Is similar to "Speed Dial 2", but what I like about this extension is that it uses the chrome bookmarks, which is the main reason I like it, as it auto-syncs with your google account. I love the customization options that "Speed Dial 2" offers, but recently the extension got corrupted and it loss all of my bookmarks. :( Please consider these suggestions for your next update: 1. toggle to Show folders(categories) in a horizontal row at the top, just like "speed dial 2" (https://ibb.co/5BtkJNw) 2. option to set your own url image/icon, just like "speed dial 2" 3. if suggestions 1 is successfully implemented, then It would be cool if we could drag and drop bookmarks into any category, just like "speed dial 2" please consider my suggestions, Thanks!

I actually love it, developer keep update it with new features and actually great developer, Thanks a lot for creating something very unique to help organize and remember bookmarks with pictures, as I usually forget the name of website and have lot in my bookmarks.

I wish it would use the "Favicon" as the icon display image. That said, I like it a lot. The smaller image next to the name is usually present and perfect. There are websites that use an alternative image or are simply absent. For example, ifttt and Anylist, Amazon and Upworthy are either missing, alternative or show the webpage.

Exactly what I was looking for: An Opera like speed dial view for my already created bookmarks. It replaces the stupidly limited standard new tab speed dial of Chrome. + No need to import or export anything. + No need to create an extra Account for syncing stuff ... because Bookmarks are synced with Google. + Simple and intuitive user interface @the developer(s): Keep up that good work!

app is very usable easy to organize better. I'm getting the hang of it. hone thing though: does it really have to change my new tabs? I would like to just access the interface through the extension only. (this is just a personal thing since I love my theme)

Very cool. Much better than the bookmarks the current Chome has - more like the old ones. I am curious as to how the thumbnails work. Some of the added bookmarks create nice big thumbnails featuring the icons of the site (almost like large favicons) but sometimes those break and I am left with a dark square with a jaggy line through it. Refreshing the icon from the options only replaces with a mini screenshot of the site. How to get back the large icons that are broken?

This would be 5 stars but for some reason it does not work in incognito mode.

I really want to like this! It does an amazing job as a bookmark manager with thumbnails! But I need to have a different New Tab homepage. Could you add an option to not change the New Tab? The nice menu bar button already allows easy access by itself, without needing to take over the New Tab. I'm sorry, I know you get tons of feature requests. See, I just want to view my bookmarks with thumbnails, but so few extensions do that. The other options are confusing, slow, broken, or charge a monthly fee. Even though it's not built for this use, yours seems to do the best job! Either way, I'm still going to keep your extension and just disable it when not in use. Thanks :D

I love it.. it presents your bookmarks in a very intuitive way : you don't read anymore, you just focus on images, colors, patterns, that you chose. It makes it both very efficient and pleasing to navigate in a familiar environment. And it doesn't ask hack your chrome session like those multi-purposes New Tab extensions. One advice : I think cloud backup images and config would be really nice. I recently had to sign in again to my chrome session, and I had to replace images one by one, which is painful...

Визуально - почти идеально!!! Зачем нужно тему мою закрашивать? Ну нравится мне моя тема она у меня с 2011 стоит! Функционально - мне бы вот-так как закладки, только часто посещаемые сайты... :) Вместо "Другие закладки", например... Конечно можно приспособиться пересортировать мои ссылки, но ведь есть такая функция в Хроме! Большое спасибо за работу!

Very good simple bookmarks page. Looks like the Chrome one when you open a new page. But its very simple.

Everything is perfect just need option to color the folder icons.

Thank you so much! I've been looking for a speed dial type extension that just had two features: folders and automatic thumbnails. So many others add all this extra stuff, leave out folders, or fail at getting the right thumbnail. This did the trick without complicating things.

Great extension. But it can't seem to synchronize the thumbnails by itself. i have to manually synchronize every bookmark?

Really nice one. Minimalistic, neat and nice looking. Synchronization is great, but should not the bookmarks' thumbnails synchronize as well?

I really like this extension because It allows me to add my own background image and have a visual bookmark set up. I just wish the background images would work like a slideshow that goes randomly though all the photos in the photos folder.

Used many bookmarking extensions but this one is the best i have used till now.

The amount of permission it ask compared to what it is based upon is kinda scary..

Based on Simple Speed Dial but doesn't even offer as much control. Cannot disable search. Cannot disable bookmark selector. Cannot disable options icon. These are all things that the base extension allow. Visual bookmarks is all of the worst parts of Simple Speed Dial and none of the good.

In order to make this extension the best and the most useful, please expand the quantity of properties by adding option to change the appearance of each bookmark by its own image. You can see what I mean by looking at extension called Yandex Bookmark. the necessity of this is to facilitate usage because It is really hard to find necessary bookmark because they are hardly different in such view when reflect the appearance of site. thank you
