It's sort of good. I like the fact that you can mount a remote connection for SFTP using the Files app on ChromeOS, HOWEVER whenever I use this to transfer files to the server, instead of overwriting existing files, it makes a copy of each file. It also will not refresh the contents of the remote folder following a transfer. So far as I can tell, the only way to do a file transfer like this is to first delete the remote files and then copy the new ones over.
HOW DO YOU USE IT/open it
Great extension! Im currently using it to mount SFTP. Is there a way to auto mount after reboot? Thanks.
Extremely useful for chromebooks without direct access to terminal. Highly recommand .
the best
This works properly...very useful. Thank you.
Essential extension for developers
Works! Helpful
It works well so far. Thanks!
Been using this for years and never had any issue. I don't really care that it is now is its own window after the recent update. Easy to setup and saves time sending you straight to the login password prompt. Great work on this and much appreciated.
It's not good for anything. It's implementation looks bad. It's very hard to use with touchpad. I'll bet it cant even fetch anonymous ftp links. I hope things would crash if they got too big. Why would anyone choose this over something that really works?
I wish I could attach it to a group, but its not a tab, its its own window. no idea how to make it a tab from it's options.

um so was loading it... ok? and then it says: closed with error code 255 and so i try to reconnectect and it just shows the same window... yea this is broken...
Like it, thanks for great work. How about make it open window at center of screen instead of at the left corner?
All the reviews less than 5 stars are from years ago. This extension just plain works.
Exactly what I needed to add ssh to my chromebook, and the SFTP mount is super handy!
It works, but the utter nuisance is that I can't make any google search starting with ssh. Whenever I type ssh in google, it goes to ssh mode. How do I turn this stupid "feature" off?
Why did this app become "deprecated" just to move to a different chrome store page url? Why was the app version removed? Very annoying.
Great extension. However, the lack of support on ARM64 devices was a disappointing realization. Is progress on WebAssembly port published somewhere?
Doesn't work - Loading NaCl plug-in…
this works fine on my chromebook, but not on my chrometab (Asus ct100): it seems to ignore the onscreen keyboard completely.
It was working just fine until today. Now I'm getting the error message "NaCl plugin exited with status code 255". I checked with putty and the connected to the servers are ok. I deleted and reinstalled the same issue. What has changed?
chrome's middle-click autoscroll is the devil! It is the only thing I don't like but it really ruins the native shell-like experience which is the whole point :( I have to remember to click twice whenever I paste with the middle-click, once to paste and a 2nd to cancel the autoscroll otherwise whoosh! maybe someday google will allow that setting to be disabled?
Such a useful part of my daily remote work. especially when doing screen sharing demos with team mates. I only need to share my browser window and every body can watch as I switch tabs to show the command line and app deployment progress side by side.
Works great and it comes handy to have a terminal tab next to a webpage related to that tab (instead of switching between Chrome and the terminal app). Question: Is it possible to include support for custom Javascript code? (we can't use Tampermonkey, or similar, to inject Javascript code). I'd like to be able to override some of the defaults, and I can't do that using the Options page (eg: use Meta+F to search in page, instead of the default Ctrl+Shift+F).
It works perfectly.. without any issues on my Windows 10. I tried to use it and I wish it work in my M1 Mac. Hoping next version should be compatible to M1 Mac.
A huge step backwards in convenience and usability for Chromebook users. Moving from the app to the extension has removed the ability to quickly open new SSH sessions, instead now requiring to go back to the browser not only to launch the first session (which would be annoying but tolerable) but for every new session as well, as the "new window' option on the tool bar just opens the options screen, as opposed to a selection of apps.
This is an excellent implementation of SSH. I use it daily on my Chromebox and Chromebooks to connect into AWS. I am very grateful to the implementors for providing this tool.
I use this everyday. Works great!
i tink it so bad
Rely need the app icon.
Love this on Windows 10. It works better than any other SSH app I have tried. I only wish it worked on my M1 Macs!
Nice work Mike! This has officially replaced Putty for me moving forward. I especially like the "mouse-scroll = arrows" feature so that apps such as manpage, vim, less, etc. scroll with the mouse wheel exactly like Gnome Terminal, and since it is a Chrome app, tabs and bookmarks work like a web page. Fantastic. You are appreciated, keep up the good work!
Great tool, works well. My only feedback is that App version opened by default in a tab and the extension version opens by default in a window. It would be nice to have a configuration option to control this behavior. If you want the extension to open in a tab right now you need to open it via a bookmark to chrome-extension://[ID]/html/nassh.html. The [ID] needs to be replaced by the Chrome ID of the extension and can be found by going to Manage Extensions > Details and looking in the address bar.
New extension seems to work almost as good as the app. However seems like it is no longer possible to have it as a separate icon / shortcut in the ChromeOS launcher or Shelf. One has to first open a browser window and then invoke the SSH extension to open a new window.
This extension is fantastic! I use it to access my linux machines at home from windows machines at work (because SSH isn't available on the windows machine) and I am so happy with the way it does what I need it too! 5 Stars for sure! I only wish it would work on Chromium running on an ARM64 processor.
Is there a way to run this extension inside a tab? I spent a long time looking through the options and couldn't find it. Especially during COVID, being able to share a window with multiple tabs that includes a terminal window makes collaboration/pair programming much easier.
Interesting that the overview of this extension says… > In progress. Use the app in the meantime. Meanwhile, if I use the app, it pops up several messages telling me to use the extension! I only use the app rarely, because I usually use an SSH client in my computer's shell, but there are times when having SSH in Chrome is handy. For now, I've disabled the app and will try using the extension.
Thanks for this extension. But can you make the Shell window able to become one tab of chrome instead of an individual window ? It's not so convinient to switching from the Shell window to chrom window.
A significant downgrade from the classic "App" I have been using for years. It did not sync my existing profiles over and the settings to find and update your connections are hidden or maybe removed... I have not found them yet. Time to look for a different extension. sigh....
I've used this as my SSH solution for years, and it's always been a very convenient and easy solution. As of late though, there are a few quirks that have come up. Namely, shell history now gets erased if it exceeds the height of the window (in contrast to before, where I could scroll up to see command history - particularly if a process had a large amount of output), and with the extension it's less convenient to open an SSH instance in a new tab, since typing in "ssh <profile>" doesn't work the first time, and is less efficient than opening a new tab and clicking the Secure Shell logo. Otherwise, this has been the best SSH option I've used, and I'll continue using it for the foreseeable future.
Great!
Nice addition to any browser save's opening putty every 2 seconds :)
Very nice!
Buggy font rendering.
This implementation is a breath of fresh air -lightweight/fast, uncluttered, and right there where I need it. When you are in and out of remote servers all day, the ability to use one program (chrome) to interact with the front AND back end is a huge click saver. Thanks and keep up the good work!
I used the app for years, but made the switch to the extension last month when the app support ended. I want to say thank you for creating this. One reason why I've stuck with this is because I love having my shell in browser tabs. That said, is there some secret way to always open extension shells in tabs? I saw another review that mentioned holding CTRL when selecting the connection and that will work, but I'd love it if I could make that the default.
Very good, use it everydaz
This is my most used chrome extension. Tip: Hold CTRL when you click on the connection from the extension icon dropdown. This will open the terminal in a chrome tab instead of a seperate window. Then create a bookmark folder called "Terminal" and bookmark this connection in that folder. My "terminal" folder has several connections to different servers which opens as a tab for easy navigation. Request: Please allow the page to scroll when dragging on text. There is no way to select/copy long output since the page does not scroll when selecting.
Liked it
As an instructor, my students are required to ssh into our AWS servers, but if we go to a secure site that does not allow ssh (blocking port 22, etc.) , then I am curious if this Chrome extension would be an option. We have used another tool "Guacamole" with good success but I think an extension might be better received.
SO CLOSE to what I wanted! The one feature that would make this extension a CATEGORY KILLER would be for it to handle "ssh://<username>:<password>@<host>" URLs directly in the browser. Then we would able to put SSH hosts in our bookmarks.
poor quality
Simple and smart extension. I love it! ?
This tool is simply awesome. I'd love to have some more options to configure it like the ability to send keep alive packets to a session. Overall this does exactly what you want in a lightweight browser extension.
bbb
I used to use app version on chromebook, and it could easily mount the remote directory to local, however this seems not possible with the extension version on windows, right? There indeed is a sftp button, but after connection have no idea how to use it, just 'ls' works?
Absolutely despise the connection dialog. Once you're connected, everything works great, but connection management is awful.
Works as advertised.
Great extension. Very useful. Is there a way to reset the host key after reinstalling the server?
This app and extension is great, especially so when coming from a long trial of testing multiple different terminals and consoles in Windows in an effort to find any capable of properly displaying all of the unicode symbols properly. My test case was the one-liner: curl 'wttr.in?format=4'
This is so cool! ???
Simple and easy to use.
IT DIDNT WORK. but i like your work keep it up
For some reason, it stopped to work after the update (jan,22)
Ubuntu 18.10 x86_64, starts but can't load NaCl, which is a fail. Thank you!
Very handy indeed. Would like to have a settings option to set a default window size and position (or at least that the position not always be at 0,0. Keep up the good work!
good alternative to putty
it is easy to use
Does everything I need without a problem.
It just works. This is especially awesome on Chromebook to mount drives.
Works as expected. It's a shell. ssh into a machine ran a few commands etc. The security questions raised with middle men would be my biggest concern. I have at least half a dozen local to choose from. We are a funny lot. Maybe I'm missing the point.
I vastly prefer the App version. Since the app version has been crashing in Chrome I thought I'd give this a try. Overall it is essentially the same as the app version for Windows Desktops, but with one major deal breaker: foreground color settings are discarded as soon as the SSH connection is established, at least when you run the session in a new tab. I always run sessions in new Chrome tabs rather than separate windows, and having all of the text an ugly white color is not an option as I prefer when my eyes do not hurt.
good
