Works fine. But I think it should refresh the already open tab when the new duplicate tab is not opened, or there should be a settings whether I like to refresh the opened duplicate tab which is gonna highlighted.
I was using this with hundreds of tabs open and was working flawlessly. However, something changed recently that made chrome extremely slow opening a new tab when this ext is enabled. Only option was to uninstall it.
Works well until you have a certain number of tabs open, then chrome starts moving extremely slowly. I had to disable it for now because I always have a ton of tabs open. Would recommend for people who don't keep 50+ tabs open.
About a week ago, there started to be an appreciable pause when a new tab is opened and chrome freezes for a few seconds. I went through and disabled all extensions and it was only until this one was re-instated that the issue returned. Even does it when just typing into the address bar sometimes, I guess it is triggering the Url change hook or whatever it uses to de-dupe tabs.
Floating window refuses to work no matter what which cripples the app.
Great tool. Really needs ability to disable temporarily though. Sometimes I want to open something in multiple windows but I either have to remove the plugin completely or add rules. Right click menu or in plugin context menu would be great.
Recently this extension no longer works with my opera developer browser.74.0.3904.0 Windows 10 64-bit.
Used to be a great extension. Over the last month or so, however, its behavior has become erratic and inconsistent. It only actively closes duplicates sometimes, and it is unclear what logic it is using to decide when to act or not. For example: I just duplicated a window of 10 identical tabs -- the extension identified and closed one of them, but left the others open. When opening the extension sidebar, I can see that it recognizes the other 9 tabs as duplicates, but isn't doing anything about them. And yes, I confirmed that the extension is running in "active" mode, as evidenced by the ONE duplicate it did automatically close. And this is not an issue of some timestamp or other weird string being in the page URLs, because as I noted, the sidebar IS identifying them as dups. I used to love this extension. I want to love it again, so I hope this is sorted out soon.
Freezing with a lot of tabs. "Prevent duplicate tabs" works ok in such cases
After chrome update stop working and start show this error page: Your file couldn’t be accessedIt may have been moved, edited, or deleted. ERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND
It was great until recently. I have a lot of tabs and now every time I try to open a new one, Chrome freezes for a few seconds (anywhere from 5 to 15). Also, sometimes it freezes while writing emails in the web Gmail interface, editing a field in a form, or even typing an address in the address bar!
Was great, since last update it lags chrome so much, open/close/switch tab lags, if you have alot of tabs, it freezes whole chrome completely
Was great. But now, it started to freeze chrome.
As someone who frequently has 3+ mail tabs, plus endless copies of other random knowledge base docs open constantly, this extension has been the game changer that I wish I had found years ago!
Easy to use, gets the job done.
Works well. Stops me from having too many copies of the same tab open. Thank you!
Poor performance. Took 15 secs between clicking its icon In chrome and for a window to pop upI this is due to the number of tabs I usually have open. I had 185. don't use if your super producitivity sort of person with many tabs open.
Worked for years, now no longer closes duplicate tabs
This extension does what three or four extensions combined does. It is detailed and includes tweaks that I would say "I wish I had it". I have not found any bug or any issue so far. I am a supporter for the extension and would love more people to support the project.
It's very good. Does what it's supposed to but sometimes you can't open a new tab because a new tab page is already opened in another window. Please fix this bug. It also happens in Edge browser.
THIS EXTENSION HAS ADVERTISEMENTS. I received a desktop notification from google chrome, generated by this extension, telling me to download "AutoConvert Select" have had this extension for a few weeks, was recommended by a friend. deleted it as soon as i got that notification. (no option to disable ads in the settings)
This was working fine then today it was disabled automatically with a message that it required a new permission to know my email address. Why does it need to know my email address? Then there was a popup also saying it needed permission to "read and change all your data on all websites". What???
It popped up a spammy notification to install a different extension from the same author, which seems like a breach of trust... Too bad because it seems like a good idea, although I'm not sure it was completely working.
This plugin works like a dream. I declared tab bankruptcy at >350 open tabs recently. Installed this laptop and I'm hovering around 60 by avoiding duplicate quip and gdocs tabs etc. Thanks!
Super-useful extension - I really couldn't do without it. The help popups in the settings menu are very clearly written, although the extension works fine with the default settings.
Get this! If only for the ability to search open tabs with ctrl+shift+f
Having a lot of errors. Can't open options page, hangs forever. Not closing duplicates and can't see the list of them. Number on extension icon slowly rises, does not match number of tabs visible on another extension icon.
Absolutely phenomenal. However, now that The Great Suspender is banned, it lost some of it functionality. Hopefully it works with the built in suspension on Edge. Other than that, it has saved me so much time. It still works well with over 100 tabs
Great extension but doesn't work in incognito mode. If that gets fixed it's 5 stars for sure.
I AM GLAD THAT SOMEBODY CAN KEEP THE BALL SOMETIMES WHEN I AM NOT THAT SAVVY WITH THE WHOLE PICTURE, LATE USER,BABY BOOMER WITH MOST BUSY BUT PHYSICAL DEMAND WHEN I WORKED ,THAMKS FOR THINKING ON YOUR FEET. TEE HEE,HAPPY EASTER SANDI P.
Great extension, I like it very much! One suggestion: I use a lot of tabs and it would be more convenient to use an optional compact format of the tab search window.
Settings options isn't available in kiwi browser there's a blank page only
Absolutely useful. An option to hide the context menu please.
This is a most have Chrome Extension and an essential part of my workflow.
Closing duplicated tab and focusing on original tab doesn't work correctly when those 2 tabs are in different windows!
Used to work. No longer does in Chrome 79 on Linux as of 2020-01-25, possibly earlier. Fails to identify any duplicates.
Worked for about 2 days then stopped. No clue as to why but it says there are no duplicates. I was using this for app development and debugging but now it's useless. Lots of other people reporting the same issue. Was using the latest version as of 11/28/2018. Will look for a working alternative.
It works, BUT it can't handle 1000+ of tabs. Chrome froze for about 4 minutes after install. I managed to open the duplicate tabs window and close a few tabs but it took a lot of time to update the list. Overall nice UI. And maybe it works better with less tabs.
noice you could add history check so it woudnt open url if it already has been opened before
Does exactly what I need, which is that every time I deploy to desktop from NSBasic, it removes the prev tab. PERFECT.
The fact that the "white list" rarely works properly makes this extension EXTREMELY annoying to deal with. Pages can clearly be listed multiple times in the white list and even URLs with similar or even EXACT duplicate formatting are closed... so the white list functionality is BADLY broken and needs to be fixed immediately for this extension to not be... well... kind of bad.
I tested this on Amazon with about 10 duplicate Amazon product listing pages opened. It only could detect a few. I like all the features except it doesn't do what it's meant to do. If the developer knows a workaround, kindly respond.
Instantly got a desktop popup upon installing and immediately uninstalled this extension.
This is now my favorite extension after adblock. 99.9% of the time you won't notice that it's there, it will just sit in the background and clean up your mess. Even when I only have a few tabs open, this extension will sometimes clean up duplicates for me. When I have 10+ tabs open it provides a significant productivity boost. I recommend skimming through the settings page though - there were a few things I didn't like, and I was able to fix all of them by changing the settings.
That's the tool I am looking for. It's extremely useful for me who open hundreds of taps.
It's good. It simple and works and helps my browser and brain stay a bit more streamlined.
For some reason, recently it stopped working in private mode. It does detect the duplicate private tabs, but doesn't close them. I did enable the extension in private mode, and allowed access to the urls. Works well in normal tabs.
Feature Request: Please add feature to close all tabs open for current tabs domain name. Additionally it would be really good to have option to choose opting out from closing subdomain variants.
Im giving this one star because a chrome extension wanting me to sign up for a paid subscription is absolutely and utterly ridiculous. If it had asked me to donate like $5 for all features forever I would not had minded but a FREAKING SUBSCRIPTION for this??? Ya Right.
One of the developers (I think) replied to my old post and informed me that it's been updated so all notification options could be selected. And I really needed that! I tried some other extensions with similar functions but none of them are as efficient or customizable enough to fit my particular needs as Clutter is so I was really hurting to use this extension again. So thank you to the developer(s) for your attention and your hard work. This is my favorite extension in the web store because even though it's not really something I see all the time, it's the one I utilize the most by far. **previous review** This extension worked best until the most recent update. I don't want the app's notifications on when it closes dupes, but there's no option to turn it off. The option to switch to Chrome's notifications doesn't even work and the notification will sit there until it's closed manually. Very annoying. Had to uninstall.
It doesn't do what it says it will. I primarily got this extension to work with React development so that when a dev server is restarted, the browser will simply go to the currently open tab. It doesn't work (or give the option) if you want to blacklist a whole location (e.g. localhost: 3000). Additionally the extension prevents me from opening a new tab on my browser, although that could be due to my use of Momentum (which is good) as the default new tab. Also the little pop out tab manager is largely unnecessary and is made worse by its UI. Definitely needs some more work before it's useful.
Does exactly what I expected and needed. It literally compares the URL and stops new tabs from opening. You get a tooltip kind of bubble to switch to that tab.
Love this extension! I use a scheduler that launches tabs for sites I need to monitor (mail, calendar, trello, etc) and this takes care of the duplicates it was creating if they were already open. Additional features such as whitelisting (allow dup urls) and blacklisting (still in beta, but works for me) (allow dup across domain [trello boards], even subdomain [keep.google.com]) work great too. Thank you!!
Excellent work, totally loving it. Simple plugin that gets the job done, with plenty of customizations. Sometimes I wonder, why is stuff like this just not bundled with the browser but oh well. Many thanks for your work on this.
Installed and it found 14 duplicate tabs. At least I know the other 379 aren't duplicates :p
Works well and has a good set of features. Would be better if '?' and '#' in URLs could be optionally ignored on a domain basis, as others have commented.
MUST have option to ignore hash and queries in paths, othterwise USELESS
Works great but I wish it could have an option to ignore query strings and # on certain domains.
One of my favorite extensions for work. Now i know i don't spend time on the same case twice. Thanks!
It would be great if I'm allowed to close tabs by mask, so that I could define the rules of when the tab is considered to be a duplicate and when it is not. Being able to close the tabs by match of Title+Domain would be really helpful as well. Thank you!
It's a great help in reducing the chaos in my many tabs. However, one request. It would be nice to have an option to ignore in-page-bookmarking after a URL HASH. For example I want all three of these URLs to be considered the same: https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest/issues/3403 https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest/issues/3403#issue-314472571 https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest/issues/3403#issuecomment-382115505
Best extension I've used, and an extraordinarily responsive developer behind it. Thanks!
@Aditya, looks like there is a bug that 1. "Clutter Free" cannot recognize the following two pages are not duplicated (they are two different pages) A. foo.com/page/path B. foo.com/page/path/another 2. the following two, sometimes are same page A. foo.com/path?param1=v1 B. foo.com/path?param1=v1¶m2=v2 btw, Thanks for providing such good extension!
Older version used to close any duplicate tabs automatically but now with the method of moving the tabs, it's nearly useless.
love it
It was supposed to help, but instead just eats the whole CPU. Every single core is used when I open 15 tabs at once. Is there anything to do with that?
It ran fine for a while, but now it's an absolute resource hog when it removes duplicate tabs. Spikes my CPU and RAM usage up to 100% every time it's in action which nearly kills my PC, and I'm running an i7 CPU with 16GB of RAM. I have to remove the extension for now as it's causing my browser too much grief. Will try again down the road in case these issues are resolved.
Good idea, but it frequently failed to remove duplicated tabs. The toolbar icon numbers is better to show the duplicated tabs found rather the total number of tabs opened which is useless. Be better have a close duplicated tabs function to manually close them.
I don't know why, but it stopped closing duplicates all of a sudden...? Bummer since it was so useful. EDIT:I just want to edit my previous review to say.....it's working again!!! The problem was on my end - a simple refresh of all open tabs and it was working just like NEW. This is my favorite dupe-killer on Chrome and probably among my top 3-5 add-ons in general. Thnks again—for the response AND for creating something that HELPS instead of HINDERS. For chronic-tab-opener types like myself, I NEED IT...haha! :P
Useful tool. Some minor issues: * It reports how many tabs it saved. I'm using remote desktoping, and there the notification Windows of the Host system is exactly over the clock of the remote syste. So somehow they didn't get it right to draw the window. It is also not easy to close. I haven't found an option to disable it * sometimes it happens that I create a tab of an existing page, and it gets heavily confused. Focus then jumps between the newly loaded and the existing tab. Only solution to solve this, is to close one of the two tabs. In the meanwhile the browser feels unresponsive.
So. Buggy.
failed to prevent duplicates on 25+ tabs
The notifications begging for money are super annoying, and you can't disable them.
It detects suspended tabs and unsuspends them when I try to open the same link! Excellent!
Works. Just works. The best I can say about any app.
Works well but the continuous notifications are awful.
We appreciate this app alot thanks!
good extension, but the notifications about having "another clutter free week" are driving me up the wall. Even disabling notifications doesn't stop them
This is the best extension for preventing duplicate tabs that allows you to customize actions when duplicate tabs are found.Thank you for creating it.
Works like a charm. + Simple and fast + multi-device + Very customizable I think this app is underrated and doesn't show up often enough on forums and recommended chrome extension lists.
Ha! Terrific! This thing does exactly what it's supposed to – I'm especially happy that the author still works on figuring out ways of improving it.
Awesome extension and awesome support. Thank you!
This plugin worked perfectly and did exactly what I needed it to do for a while. Sadly, about a week ago it stopped checking actively for duplicate tabs, even after reinstalling the plugin, and only did something when manually choosing to "close all duplicate tabs" from the plugin menu. I've reviewed the options, nothing had changed, and no changes to "duplicate tab behaviour" had an effect on this issue. (This is Chrome stable 54.0.2840.87 on OS X 10.11.6) I'll come back to update my review if anything changes or I can get it running again (maybe an update for OS X Sierra broke functionality with El Capitan?) Update: works once again flawlessly, hooray to the dev! :)
basically it tells me how many tabs i have open and it closes duplicate tabs if i ask it to. 10/10 would open 150 tabs again with no stress
-Requires a complete reinstall every single time the browser/extension crashes -Has a default setting set to NOT close duplicate tabs -Checking the new "sync to multiple devices" option does not prevent the user from having to rs-change every single setting every single time the extension has to be deleted and reinstalled -Sometimes has several tabs which the extension is not aware of if opening many tabs at once, such as "reopen closed window" -Does not close duplicate tabs that are already there when it is activated -When Chrome is restarted, it OFTEN gives a tab count of something like 72, even though the actual number of open tabs is 1,276, and can take literal weeks before the extension has noticed every tab - even if you tab through every single one of them and refresh, you may still get a number that is 10 or 12 lower then the actual amount of tabs which are open -Rated a 4 because I am not aware of any other extension for Chrome which actually closes the tabs, and because it has about 3 settings which are actually useful (out of 12 or so available), such as choosing whether to include hash-marked URLs in the automatic closings (these mark a certain place on the page, such as Wikipedia "topics" links).
God level addon ! Works like charm ....
Love this extension, saves me hours not opening the same blog article in multiple places only to read it twice and waste my time if I don't realize I read it three days ago when I was slogging through my tabs.
This is a really good extension! I'm always up-t0-date! If I didn't have this extension, I would have a lot of duplicate tabs with clutter! I also like the Whitelist. It's so convenient and easy to understand and use.
Very useful extension. Developers could add a feature to toggle between whitelisting and blacklisting pages. Some people only need that extension to work on a few websites.
VERY handy extension. The only way it could be improved is to add a fourth option when the user clicks a link to open a second instance of a tab that's already open. (Currently, the options are to 1) do nothing – that is, not open the duplicate but stay on the source page, 2) switch to the already-open tab while leaving the source page open, or 3) switch to the already-open tab and close the source page.) The fourth option would be like option 1, but would add a little tooltip or popup indicating that there is already a tab open for that URL. But this is a relatively minor nit considering the convenience and clutter-relief offered by this extension.
pretty awesome
We use a lot of Google docs in work and people also send and share docs links through emails. Without this extension, I often end up having a lot of duplicate tabs in Chrome, causing big clutter. This extension solves this clutter problem neatly. The usability is also greatly improved with features like "ignoring the part after #" and "web site whitelisting". Great productivity-improvement extension!
Works exactly as described and helps keep browsing sessions organized. Great support. Looking forward to updates and improvements since I'll use this extension as long as I use a browser.
It works great!
