Solution for "Connection failed " error: Replace the host from raw ip address to quickconnect address
It was a bit of a trial-and-error process to setup, but I finally figured it out. Once it's setup, it works great. Here's what I did: 1) Login to your Synology NAS on a web browser using an admin account 2) Take note of the URL in the address bar and copy everything after "https://" but before ":5001". Note that in my case it included some combination of the NAS's local IP address and the quickconnect ID that I had setup previously. 3) Paste that into the host field in the extension setup form. 4) Enter the admin username you used previously. 5) Enter the password for the admin username used previously.
As already posted, to resolve the login/connection issue follow the advice in Neville Hunt's comment (Dec 3 2021): "configure DSM Web Services to automatically redirect HTTP connections to HTTPS for DSM Desktop" **AND** David Van den Bergh's sub-comment (Dec 16, 2021): "visit the DSM https page in the browser to force acceptance of the SSL certificate"
I always go back to this one. I keep wanting to try the "other" one with more options and looks fancier, but it will break if I look at it funny. I always end up back here. Always.
Works great. Look down to Neville Hunt's solution of setting HTTPS forwarding if you get the connection error, as I did.
Please allow us to choose HTTP or HTTPS else I cant login
Perfect! Config is fine (note: use the default DSM login portal HTTPS address|port, not the "Download Station's" app alias, e.g. [SYNOLOGY IP]:5001 (default https port)) You can right click on the torrent/magnet and add it to the queue! Loving it!
Love this extension, I use it daily. Only wish magnet links work inside Chrome. What I would like is to click on the magnet link and have it automatically add to the NAS download station extension. I've looked inside the NAS download station settings and there seems to be a feature to turn it on but I've not been able to get it to work correctly. The best workaround I found is to right click on the magnet link and then select the download with NAS download station from the context menu.
This is a great replacement for the Synology native extension. It has more features, it works well, it's supported. What more could you ask for?
Connection failed for unknown reason.
Stopped working,
It doesn't work. No matter what you do, it fails to connect even if you have the actual connection open in another tab.
Simple. Easy. Perfect. Awesome!
Im unable to get this to work. For security, I created a "download" user, created a "downloads" folder and gave the user access to that. Im able to login but right clicking or manually adding downloads doesnt seem to work. My hunch is that the "download" user might not have access to the default download location set by Synology on the Download Station app. There is a bug that it cant be changed. This would probably work for me if I used an admin account but, better be safe.
Need to add HTTP Option not only HTTPS, can't use the latest extension cause chrome auto update extension after couple hours ...
Managed to solve on Chrome (hopefully) Set the DSM access to Https only, post 5001 then started working. Synology help: For DSM 7.0 and above: Go to DSM Control Panel > Login Portal > DSM > DSM port. For DSM 6.x: Go to DSM Control Panel > Network > DSM Settings > DSM ports. To force DSM to redirect to HTTPS connection, follow the below steps: Sign in to DSM using an account belonging to the administrators group. Change from HTTP to HTTPS at the following locations: For DSM 7.0 and above: Go to DSM Control Panel > Login Portal > DSM, tick Automatically redirect HTTP connection to HTTPS for DSM desktop and click Save. For DSM 6.x: Go to DSM Control Panel > Network > DSM Settings, tick Automatically redirect HTTP connection to HTTPS (for DSM desktop) and click Apply. Synology NAS will apply these network settings and refresh the page. Once applied, all connections to your DSM desktop will be forced to use HTTPS.
Worked until the latest update that took away the option to use http
Like this extention, but it's not work any more since the last update(2021 Nov)
Worked great for a long time. Stopped working recently. Dev seems fixated on Firefox, not Chrome.
Dev's broke this extension to support firefox (mandating https, forcing users to setup ssl certs), at least give an option to use http on chrome. https://github.com/seansfkelley/nas-download-manager/blob/master/FAQ.md#why-cant-i-use-http-not-https-to-connect-to-the-nas
I used this all the time to be able to directly download to my NAS, but since a few days it isn't working anymore, I'm sure it is caused by another DSM update which with every update just seems to disable more things, hope there is a way to solve it, so far can't find out why, it just won't login anymore 'Connection failed for an unknown reason'
Stopped working.
Stopped working after the latest update
stopped working
stopped working.
Installed this after Synology's own extension stopped working and they've never bothered fixing it. This one works flawlessly!
for a day gives this error - "Error updating tasks" :(
I find this extension very handy! Very happy to have discovered it. Now I understand their are big challenges behind implementing 2-Step Authentication support (especially in a browser extension). To deal with this limitation, creating a limited permission user account on the Synology NAS with 2-Step verification off, was the right solution for me. Now I copy/paste magnetic links in all the time, and have zero problems picking the download path. Once or twice in the past, Chrome has pushed a browser update, that caused issues and/or broke the extension. Thankfully, the developer has been quick to address issues when reported and then push out any needed updates. Kudos for that! As a side note: DSM on my NAS is not reachable from the internet, so for this extension to reach it over my home network, I use https, but I end the NAS hostname with with .local (EG synologynas.local) and I set the port to 443, instead of the DSM port of 5001. Test and Save, and it voilà it works!
Please add the ability to select download location from context menu for magnet link :)
If you are using a custom user spesifically for this extension (out of security considerations) and you are struggling with torrents being stuck at "waiting" do the following: 1. Go to the login portal of your Synology NAS and log in with that custom user. 2. Start Synology Download Station and it will ask you what you want the default folder to be. 3. Select a default folder. 4. Now the extension will work.
There used to be another plugin, that was faster (ALOT) and when you right click you had two options, 1 download, 2 download a select where to save, such a time saver, for some reason its no longer on the chrome store, now im stuck with this heap of junk
Works very well, just needs an option for the badge to only show completed downloads while still showing all downloads when clicking the icon.
Working great! How to donate?
Works well, but doesn't allow you to pick the file download location. Also, it seemed to lose connection after initiating a download.
This is the one you're looking for.
Doesn't work in version 80.0.3987.132 (Official Build) (64-bit). It keep saying: Connection failed. Likely cause: wrong hostname/port, no internet connection or invalid certificate. All other extensions for Synology works OK.
I personally find this better than the popular extension This extension supports filtering and sorting, which is highly needed for download managers. 5 stars nonetheless!
what is the difference between this and the very popular Synology Download Station extention?
Works flawlessly So convenient :-)
