I love this extension so much! This is key for my workflow!
This extension is my reliable companion for years now (and I am very picky). Some recent changes were the reason behind a misunderstanding but were quickly reverted. I can honestly recommend it.
Like others have said, it seems that this extension, which was AWESOME is now malware as it is changing the search provider. Looking in the source code I don't see anything reference to smartwebfinders.com, so there must be some "phone home" function that is getting this site as a target for the change. Thank you Google for highlighting this change. I wish I had the time to review the source code and find why this is happening and make a safe personal copy, but sadly that is unlikely to happen. I hope that there is another good VIM chrome overlay to use. https://imgur.com/a/KjgAvKL
The latest version (1.0.7) has changes which are not represented in the source code, as some folks said, one of the changes include changing the default search engine. This sketchy practice is making this extension dangerous. Don't take the risk.
Great, but I miss the ability to use VIM controls in inputs and textareas. EDIT: It changes my default search provider. Sadly this is malware now.
The search engine changing thing happened to me as well. "Change your search settings to: smartwebfinders.com"
I cannot find enough words to describe how convenient it is! Thanks for such a fantastic app!
This is amazingly helpful for voice controlling a computer, but please build in an option to disable all so that I can turn on the 2-4 shortcuts that someone is going to actually use in this scenario, turning them all off manually takes forever.
just love it, saves time and effort once you get used to it. Omnibar is almost a separate great productivity tool if you like to open a lot of tabs like me.
Leaving the PDF viewer on by default is a mistake, causes problems. But my main issue and imo is a oversite is no mention of this in the settings, nothing within the extension itself told me how to turn it off. What you need is a simple check box in the options, If I need to go to github to get the full instructions then link it or tell me in the options.
I really like the plugin, however the speed of generating links is not as great as vimium. But that doesn't matter that much considering that it requires now permission to be communicating with native applications. It would be great if that would be optional as I don't want to allow it communicating with other apps without me knowing which particular aspects of my compute it will communicate.
Worked where Vimium failed i.e on https://web.skype.com/. Vimium though were assigning letter markers but could get the clicks to actually work so tried Surfing Keys and this worked like a charm. Thanks much. Any chance you plan to have something like this for Chrome Devtools or Windows (windows 7) in general ? Would be totally awesome.
Extremely convenient and customizable. Must have for all vim-lovers))
I'm not why but the way the shortcuts are arranged sort of makes things inconvenient compared to other extensions (and Qutebrowser) I've used. How come this couldn't be like Tridactyl or Qutebrowser where the layout feels like you're hands are resting.
I can't work without this anymore. Browsers just aren't browsers without it.
差点把我面试搞砸了
Great extension. I got every feature I needed :)
definitely a super productivity tool!
MAN! You are so ROCK! The best extension so far!
我愿称其为唯一必要的插件。最近发现按“Q”查单词的一个小细节,下拉列表中会把匹配到的本页单词列出来,这个做得太细心了。
Brook, thank you for your awesome work. I appreciate you sharing your creation with the world. How can I disable certain keys per website? For example, I don't want surfingkeys shortcuts to work on some websites? I would like to know how to block the FULL website or how to prevent one key. Looking forward to your answer!
It's great, thank you! <3
Its a good app but there are two things that need to be fixed before it replaces vimium for me. First, it would be nice if the links generally used the left hand home row like vimium does. Second the permissions required seem excessive, are these really needed or is this extension scraping your data? - Read and change all your data on the websites you visit - Read and change your browsing history on all your signed-in devices - Read and change your bookmarks - Read and modify data you copy and paste - Manage your downloads
太好用了!!!
Awesome! I really love to use this. SIMPLY THE BEST.
great extension!
3 Year Update: Wow, all I can say is that this extension has changed my web browsing experience completely. I'm infinitely more efficient with it, since there's no ceiling. Everyday I'm discovering new tips and tricks that I can use SurfingKeys for. Today, I finally realized that press "ab" let's me book the current page to a specific folder. Fantastic. The developers really have thought of everything, and more. Much appreciation to the dev team for bringing this to us. Original Review: More feature rich than vimium.
When I first started with this extension, I has hypercritical and uninstalled. After looking and searching, I decided to give this one another try. I'm glad I did. It even opens a vim editor on an input when pressing ctrl+i. I had even tried other extensions to do just that, and most of the time in places where I really wanted it, they would not work. But surfingkeys does. I get deeper down the rabbit hole of vim, tmux and surfingkeys and I must say, this computing philosophy is on another level, and surfingkeys is a great addition to this flow.
This is a great alternative to cVim, and functions better on new versions of Chromium, in my experience. It's customizable to match key bindings I liked from cVim.
I have tried Vimium , c-Vim, and Surfingskey is the best among the three I have to say. This extension support far better visual and insert mode. I can also have more flexibility in inserting script or remapping keys... The most powerful feature is that I can map some key to execute my script. This allows me to automate many repetitive tasks just by hitting some predifined keys. It's my pleasure to explore Surfingskey cool stuff every single day <3
Actively developed and better features (works in PDF files!) than cVim and Vimium
The Best vim emulator. I used to use cvim and vimium, this one is far superior. Easy to use yet feature rich. Thank you so much for making this.
I'm a big fan of Surfingkeys. I use it along with Vimium in Chrome and Vimium-FF in Firefox. I press "i" to temporarily turn off Vimium if I want to use a Surfingkeys shortcut that conflicts with a Vimium shortcut. Surfingkeys has more features than Vimium (I love the PDF viewer!), so I could see myself using Surfingkeys alone but I like using both :)
crashes on chromium
This extension is really good, while still has some work todo. It is on par with Cvim.
say goodbye to the mouse
Phenomenal. I'm not a former VIM user, but I kept running into this (and similar extensions - tried most if not all, and this one is the best) when googling for many different things I wanted extensions for - so I finally took the plunge and learned how to use it. Huge time saver, and makes life so much easier. Almost completely obsoletes the mouse. WOULD BE GREAT if the developer could add a 'yank multiple parent elements'.
键盘映射做的很不错!很好用! 但是 打开PDF有问题!有些数字和英文公式不显示啊!还没法在设置里关掉打开pdf的选项。希望这里可以改进一下。
why do i not have the option to not use pdfviewer? uninstalling until this is fixed :P
It's got some quirks and some websites are too smart for their own good and don't let this thing work, but overall this is a stunning piece of OSS ... thanks, dev! Btw Keypass users should note this might interfere with auto-type somewhat fatally.
Great ! I love it! So cool extension !
Trying to switch from Vimium. But this extension is really slow. It takes a long time (1100ms) to display link hints on reddit (around 243 links).
The best vim emulator on chrome.
A good tool to save a lot of time, great.
the best vim navigation extension
I switched to this from Vimium and I'm still blown away at the amount of customization that is possible.
Compared with Vimium, it works better, has more features, and is more customizable.
really really good for vim lovers, the most loved feature for me is the way to adding bookmark, highly recommend to all vim lovers!
This extension is amazing! So nice to be able to select links and text via keyboard, and the built in help rocks for getting to know how to use it!
I am sorry for my poor English. This extension was very good, but now it is not. When I select text on some website(such google translate),and right click, the text will cancel selection , and some time this extension make some text can not be select. I hope next update can solve these question.
I prefer this over Vimium due to it's customizability (if that's a word). If you can do it with JavaScript, you can do it with this. I also love that you can pull in your settings from a local file. In fact, you can make changes to that file, save it, and refresh your page in Chrome and it will just work. Love it!
This is the perfect vim extension for Chrome. I love it so much I've contributed several pull requests. Highly recommended. This is my config: https://github.com/b0o/surfingkeys-conf
Really great.
Good extension! Better than vimium!
WOW,WOW. It is excellent.
Finally a vim style plugin that gives me control of the browser without compromise!
Finally vim keys extension usable beyond j/k for scrolling! Removed vimium and realized that it also slowed down my browser! Awesome!
The best
Very help, it save my life. My configuration https://github.com/alswl/.oOo./blob/master/.surfingkeys.js
Best vim-like extension ever! Totally customizable!
Love it! What makes it better vimium and other popular alternatives is that it works in pdf viewer (!!!) and has much better visual selection (typing "v" behaves like "f" for selecting links, and so text can be selected and copied with keyboard only!).
Completely customizable and the very best of all the vimlike browser options -including plugins and vimlike browsers. This is a great way to kill that mouse habit.
Great extension. Thanks!
love it!
i love it
The flexibility to customize the behavior of this plugin to match ones preferences makes it top notch. The only issue with the plugin is that you may get frustrated at how poor the interfacing is with all your other programs!
Great work!! Thanks you!!
Thank you :-)
perfect, thanks
It is much better then vimium. Switched from vimium to this.
It has a built-in vim editor (written in js)! And the editor even works on <select> elements! And much like the real vim, it lets you "source" your settings from an external location (eg, github.com). And you can extend SK's functionality by writing your own js function and map it to a key. I have permanently switched over from vimium. This ext. is AMAZING!
It's good extension but it prevents to write '<' in inputs. This is very annoying, because I can't write html tags fast
Great
hi! nice extension! i've never used vim, but seems like i may start. i understand, that my question may upset tru-vim-fans, but is there a way to bind caret movement keys also to arrow keys and pgup, pgdn, home, end? and also, bind 'V' to go back from range mode to caret mode? also, i've seen you mention big caret for visibility. i may suggest you to "borrow" mechanics from here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/caret-browsing/fklpgenihifpccgiifchnihilipmbffg?utm_source=chrome-app-launcher-info-dialog first option (black rectangle) is better imho, btw
Second to none extension. Definitely 5 stars! Much more functionality compared with philc's Vimium p.s. though Excluded URLs and keys rules are really missed vs Vimium Hope to see further development. Thank you Brook! -------------- Enhancements list for future versions -------------- Go to edit box - scrolls page to the edit area if it is not visible.
