what does it mean by "discard tabs" in the advanced settings? is it auto closing unused tabs or just the ram cache?
it almost reduce 85% ram usage, fast reload, good function
i would like to know if this addon's source code ise public/open source i highly suspect this addon has a built in "redirect" module interfering in between redirects from google search results to the final destinaton web pages. a redirect "tracker" domain caught my eye for just a split second right before i landed on "carrefoursa.com" , the redirect tracker url was "https://sweetydeals.com/?gclid=NbpaVNvgbuU2sDllqGK1tpbfNI1919B1ai30FJAqPwSfblVP1Y5abNP" google.com ->https://sweetydeals.com/?gclid=*** -> final url (which in my case was carrefoursa.com) to whomever it may concern, please acknowledge the potential thereat and act accordingly
Necessary component of my browser now, good work.
Why does it think that one hour is sufficient? I want to suspend tabs that have been inactive for more than a day. It is stupid that this is limited to an hour.
Are there any extensions that makes suspended tabs retain static data? I don't see why I can't scroll through suspended tabs
the only extension to do what i want : not load new background tabs until selected. but its not consistent. only work in about 1 out of 5 times. improvement on that would be nice. also an option to discard older tabs when a hard limit is reached would make more sense
I always give ratings but don't usually write comments unless is Super Good or Super Poor. After trying all similar plugins or software. this is the best plug-in/extension that has all functionality to fulfill every human need. ** THE BEST ** =Up-Todate. (this is how every human should check before wasting time. Browser keeps updating, consistent updated plug-in/firmware/extension to prevent code crash or heavy code is very important) =Hover and restore (really convenient, those sleep tabs can just restore by hovering the center big icon) =Suspend/Make it sleep based on your choice. (after some time, you will start to click the pinned icon on the menu bar for this function. I started to find this useful when ad-hoc jobs pop-up while in the mid of Researching/Online Learning/Shopping. Therefore, I just click the pinned icon to suspend all windows/tabs/others, then full force on the pop-up job. If back to the old time... need to save it all in the collection or close the browser to restore it later before working on heavy software like Adobe Premier, Photoshop, AI, 3D software, or FB ads....) =Limit tab open & auto Close (most people may think is useless, but is good for self-discipline & Chinese boss company & Kidz. we tend to drift away as browsers are very smart to show "you may also like" ads nowadays. in according to limit drift away action or complete task/research in time. this function is super good. Educate your kids to do that, as most pages, open only wanted a few lines or phrases. they can just select-> right-click ->save to collection. Be a tidy clean kid~ otherwise, keep buying tons of RAM is no use.) **POTENTIAL TO IMPROVE** =Automatic Discard Un-use Tab being ticked as default. (most humans don't go into “Setting” after getting anything. so this function ticked as default will cause them don't understand why tabs closed themselves. I understand this is a new function and thank you for your hard coding work, but to announce it in default ticked. will cause Human panic, they forget can just Right click the mouse at the menu bar to restore those closed windows/tabs) =Add in Close duplicated function. (Human memory is short, always open repeated links in different content, or the website likes to pop out in the new tab. adding this function to close those duplicated old tabs is very helpful for humans. full link match will do this auto-action, an advance function could be... after some ../*/*/ sublink or query strings only auto close as duplicated) =Group same domain Tab function. (since the Ori code is working on tab functionality. adding those tab-related extensive coding won't make the plug-in/extension heavy. it will be lighter than humans installing several plug-ins/extensions from different places/developers. this can be optional for human tick by themself.) **Conclusion** you or your team's thoughtfulness had create such a good plug-in, look forward to seeing more of your stuff.
what about removing the extension entry from the context menu?
Please don't suspend tabs with active form inputs :( that takes this from "100% what I want" to "thing I have to work around carefully"
Needs instant. when i navigate away from a tab, put it to sleep
This seems to work better for me than The Great Suspender. I used that for yeeears and I was happy with it, but whenever did a google search the page would automatically scroll down halfway. This frustrated the hell out of me and I eventually figured out it was that extension. Recently it just broke for some reason, so I found and installed this. It even appears to save more memory that The Great Suspender did. I also like how it leaves the page visible, so you don't have to look in the address bar to see what the suspended page is
Well for me whenever I press "unsuspend all" it just completely stops working forever and I have to uninstall/reinstall to make it work again... But else it's a really useful thing.
I really like this extension. I have but one gripe tho. I have two large monitors and poor eyesight; I need to use page size controls to set every page to 165%. When it suspends the tab, it shrinks it to 100%... not a problem. When it restores the tab, it remains 100%, it does not return to the 165% I require. It would be very nice if it could read this setting when it suspended the page, and then be sure to restore this setting when restoring the tab... Thank You very much. <ctrl>+<mouse scroll> will change this setting if I didn't explain it very well.
Yo fellow ADHD peeps with 50 million tabs! THIS is the extension that I've found works best for my needs! I have trialed MANYYYY too :P (Like, A LOT. Others always keep breaking, leeching memory/data/whatever technical problem i don't understand but Computer Go Slow Now, & other probs - BUT NOT TAB SUSPENDER!) I've been using it for god knows how many years and I HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! It's VERY customizable (via the extension's Setting but ALSO there's customisable shortcuts (found here: chrome://extensions/shortcuts)) Massive battery-life saver. Zero problems if Chrome crashes - the tabs are all restored exactly as they were before the crash, and there's zero issue unsuspending them after restore too (like, this is what sets Tab Suspender apart from all the similar extensions I've tried!) The suspended tabs are also recorded in History just like any other tab too, and you can bookmark a tab that's suspended, and when you open the bookmark & then unsuspend the tab: there it is! Zero issue, you haven't lost a link you saved, no problemo! Basically, I came by here to chuck Tab Suspender's peeps a donation because they're basically a disability support tool or whatever for me, and then oops got distracted writing this review :P :) Hope this review helps peeps! :)))
i am testing this in edge now to possibly replace the great suspender which seems to not work since a recent update. everything seems ok so far. the only thing i miss from the great suspender is that when the tab got reloaded, it would go directly back to the previous spot on the web page and not go back to the top. maybe there is a setting for this i am missing, but so far i do not see one. to me, this would be a great update to the extension
Great tool for peope how have many open tabs with heavy content, My RAM don't support 10+ tabs but with Tab-suspender my life is better.. I can actually work again!
Could you possibly add a full page screenshot instead of just the top part of the page? Alot of the stuff I do has me going to multi tabs just to compare/reference and would help a lot if I were able to scroll on the suspended tab instead of reloading it each time
Works perfectly.
Suggestion: Add an option for unsuspending all tabs in a group when one of the tabs in the group is unsuspended.
Absholutly best tab freezer for chrome
Tab Extender works good; however, it continues to suspend domains which I've wildcarded and added to the whitelist. Voice.google.com, mail.google.com/chat/ and messages.google.com. Anyone else having these issues?
There's always room for improvement, but the functionality is there, and it delivers
I have hundreds of tabs open at any given time. With this extension my cpu no longer reaches 60% or more when idle (I've seen a maximum of 2% when idle or 12% with video playback) . Very grateful and saved me a lot of headaches.
It DOES what it says it does. I tend to have too many tabs opened and now they are suspended. Thanks for that!
Does what it needs to do, but for some reason it causes youtube videos to have random video contrast issues...weird.
This is a bit difficult to properly rate, I haven't used the extension for the most part, only keeping it because my stored tabs are suspended by this extension. I'm rating it 3 stars because it does work, however, going into settings and choosing to turn it off does NOT turn it off, that option might as well just not even exist. I have turned it off, then on again to see if turning it off once more would somehow do the trick when turning it off the first time did not, but no such luck would be had, unfortunately. This extension's On/Off switch is just like my old wireless keyboard, broken and useless...
Netflix is flickering when I pause an ongoing movie. Yes,this extension cause it.
Outstanding! Smooth operation. Amazingly broad and clever functionality.
First, I am not a "Bot", I have been using this app for for a couple of months after The Great Suspender ordeal. I tried at least 6 other TAB Hibernation apps that ware not even 1/10th as good as this one is. I was all about The Great Suspender and thought it was a perfect app until I used this app. The interface GUI is light & responsive & extremely fast responding!! I cannot believe that i never tried this app before. This app is Soooo much better in every aspect! Bravo ~ Reason for the review today is after doing some work at home on the PC for hours i just notices that my taskbar has "19" separate browser windows open.... All with a min of 20+ tabs open on each, I cannot even tell you the pure joy i have that my computer can even move the mouse or even navigate any pages, but it is working w/o any slow downs at all due to the perfection of this awesome app. To the developer ~ You have made a excellent app! Please don't sell out to another developer who can use this for malware. I want to give you a proper THANK YOU! and keep up the great work! ** People who have written this app does not do what is says are freaking crazy or just cannot use a PC, and to you the haters "You know who you are" << Lets go Brandon >> must be your motto! Thank you!
Amazing!!!!!! Everyone needs to know about this life saving extension!!!!!!!
Make sure you activate all of your suspended tabs before uninstalling because if you don't, the addresses are unrecoverable. Avoid this. I had to re-install this extension and activate all of my tabs before getting uninstalling again.
I want all my tabs BACK!!!! Your app just closed them (not suspended for the time I don't use them) and the option to unsuspend all is not working! DO NOT INSTALL THIS ADD-ON, IF YOU DON'T WANT TO LOOSE YOUR TABS!!!! Developers DO NOT answer customers tickets!
Auto close tab keep turning on,!! its great app, the tab stay there even I turn off computer, but until a month ago, the tab discarded by itself
EDIT 15.11.21: App has failed me. Stopped working, and I lost several hundred tabs because it says 'Your file could not be found'. What a waste. I used to like this app a lot. please fix it. ORIGINAL: Great suspender app. I particularly love the screenshot feature. Makes it easy to understand what the tab content was without reloading. I just have one important suggestion: 1) Please add an option to IGNORE tabs with unsaved 'form data'. It always tries to suspend an active tab with unsaved data, which leads to a prompt, and sometimes that causes Chrome to lag a lot. So that's the only reason for 4 stars else I'd give it a full 5. 2) As another suggestion, it'd be great if it could take a full rolling screenshot of the page (even in lower quality), so we can see more page content without having to reload it. This is great when researching topics because I can just suspend all research tabs and still have access to the data.
Tab suspender really help me not burn my gpu with my 4 browsers and 20 tab per browser setup. hahahaha Thank you for the service :)
Very usefulll extention, thanks for make this extention ?
it would be amazing if when suspending youtube it saved the time at which it was paused. otherwise, excellent extension!
A very good app that reduced my memory usage by HALF! Very good, since I open lots of tabs! I went from using 1200MB to only 600MB on average. Nice! I see people have had issues where all their tabs get deleted, I did not have that issue, I disabled the auto-close feature altogether in the settings. I would recommend you do this too.
needs to add support for latest tech
Saves roughly around 1 gb per 10 tabs suspended, most of which were youtube, so good job dev!
the plug-in stopped working, althouth I have the latest version 1.4.7 May you help to fix it?
Auto-unsuspend is not being triggered when clicking on suspended tabs in the tab strip. EDIT -- "Restore when switching to a tab" has been fixed with version 1.4.7!
I like the app, but the Restore Automatically stop working a few releases ago. No fix yet. Still having problems with Restore Automatically. I have to click on the page to restore it. The "Restore suspended tab automatically when the tab becomes active/(gets focus)" is not working.
It does exactly what it says on the tin, but I'd love a blacklist option.
This extension came in handy when the great suspender was flagged as malware; however, just recently my Brave browser has been crashing a lot. This is the only extension that I have and I just realized that it was updated 2 days ago, exactly when the browser started crashing. I've disabled the extension and it seems to have been stable, so curious to know if anyone else has noticed anything weird with the latest update from May 25th.
I've been using it for a number of years. It alsways worked reliable on Chrome on Windows 10.
One day this extension just decided, it will start closing tabs as it sees fit. Really, guys?
Please have the sweeper keep a list of URLs that it closes. The autoclose feature keeps turning on - if I wanted to close the tab I wouldn't have this sweeper. At the very minimum, give me a place to find what it closed so I don't have to guess at what I'm missing until I'm already halfway through work and realize I can't access tools because sweeper closed them.
A Recent update added in a feature to CLOSE tabs automatically, and it is enable by DEFAULT. And what is worse, it automatically turns this feature back ON after reopening chrome on reboot, and occasionally by itself some how. I used this extension for years but after a week of this, frustration, no more.
It closed my suspended tabs after upgrade. So much mad at this extension. Under the name of helpfulness leading to destruction. Useless.
It worked ok for a long time.. However, it hasn't been working well since yesterday. Tabs are being closed every time I open the browser, so I went to the settings to stop the extension from closing tabs and it really stopped. When I reopened the browser it started closing the tabs again, and when I checked the settings I found that default settings have been applied again!! It seems that there is a bug with saving the settings and I hope it will be fixed soon!
be careful , For some reason the settings were reset automatically , and i lost more than 100 tab
It was amazing. But till new version, it CLOSED ALL OF MY TABS AND I CAN'T RECOVER THEM.
it works ok, but several times, most recently it updated and i had go through a setup, i know i told it not to close during the setup, yet today i notice tabs closing and check it , and it was closing them. default should be off. or atleast keep the damm settings previously set or set during setup instead of reverting/breaking
This was a 5-star extension until the "close tabs" feature started turning on whenever I closed and re-opened Chrome. Every time it does, it closes half my tabs and then I have to try to get them back. I think this is a bug and I'll go to 5 stars if it stops doing that.
Can't keep using this extension, it keeps resetting its settings and closing all my tabs as a result
The creator is lying that they fixed the auto close feature bug. I just lost 20+ tabs because of this bs. Don't download it unless you want to lose all your tabs.
This extension worked flawlessly up until a day ago. All of my suspended tabs started closing on their own one-by-one. Had to disable for it to stop. Hopefully the devs fix this issue.
Some setting changed by itself and closed all my suspended tabs. All gone and can't get them back. Uninstalled.
Caution: It has "auto-close tabs" on by default. I corrected this in the options, and everything worked fine for months. Then suddenly dozens of tabs disappeared. All of this extension's settings had disappeared, so I manually reset them again. Not sure what's going one here... When it works, it's great.
as of May 20th,2021 there was a new update or something... and after it updated, all my suspended tabs were thrown out and didn't show up on restart.... because for some reason you guys decided to turn on a so-called "new" advanced function (which is redundant) called "automatic discard tabs" and you turn back on a setting i specifically turned off called "auto close tabs"..... two settings that do the same thing.... thumbs up to the UI designer for the incredibly detailed eye... SO BEWARE EVERYONE - THE NEW UPDATE TURNS ON TWO SEPARATE 'AUTO-CLOSE TAB' FUNCTIONS
I set it up TO NOT DELETE SUSPENDED TABS guess what it did? Correct! IT DELETED THE TABS AND COMPLETE TAB GROUPS! Why do I have to set it up to not delete tabs MULTIPLE TIMES?!
Great to free up memory and background power/processor usages. Highly recommended.
Generally works well but OS crashed and upon restoring tabs in Chrome, Tab Suspender had my CPU spiked for days before I realized what was causing it. I Force Quit Chrome and restored tabs a number of times and suspender spiked CPU each time and wouldn't stop. When looking at suspended tabs, it was like they were in a loop--constantly re-suspending themselves. This was somewhat confirmed by looking at the Extension details which showed the list constantly changing. I have no idea what caused it to freak out but I had to turn the extension off to get the CPU to calm down.
Works Great. I've been using it for over 2 years. Love it.
Great tab suspender program! It works smoothly and helps me save valuable resources on my computer
This is INSANE! I've been waiting for 35 mins now and my tabs are STILL not loaded, for some reason it keeps reloading them over and over or that's what it seems to be doing. The great suspender could open up my tabs in literally less than 30 seconds when I had 4 different windows up with 50+ tabs in each of them. On top of that, I've already lost tabs to power cuts and this extension for some reason after a session restore deleted them even tho I disabled any option in the options page to remove suspended tabs beforehand. Seriously, it feels like somebody made an extension and tested it with only 1 tab open. I am considering removing this and using my resources until we have a better alternative to the great suspender. This extension as it is the opposite definition of working smart not hard.
Barely functional. I had to switch from this when The Great Suspender was cancelled. There is no comparison. I can have 20 tabs suspended and my system slows to a crawl. I literally had 313 tabs suspended with The Great Suspender and my system worked fine. This won't even allow me to have 20 tabs suspended. LITERALLY, even if 19 are suspended and one is open. That being said, it is better than nothing. I am eagerly awaiting an extension that actually does what it says.
It's a really helpful extension. helps me save ram
It's a memory and CPU hog. Crashes the browser. Does the exact opposite of what it says. Deleted.
Just what I need exactly, thank you.
Amazing! Easy-to-use interface with all sorts of features to make it work how you want it to!
Doesn't work all the time
So far the best alternative for ' The Great Suspender ' since the malware outbreak.
DO NOT INSTALL IT! I installed, and it closed all my tabs, in all my devices, before I finish configuring it and disable the option to close tab, that I can not understand why they put it enabled by default????!!! THIS IS DANGEROUS!!!
It works great as expected.
I like it and don't remember having problems with it but would like even more if it had option to restore with hard refresh. Some sites need a hard refresh and some don't but things would flow more smoothly if I didn't have to perform a hard refresh on those sites that need it after clicking on the screen in order to restore the tab.
very helpful .....loved it
Seems to work ok so far. My biggest problem is that all my tabs are at a particular zoom level, and when they are suspended for some reason this extension creates the screenshot placeholder at a smaller zoom. When the page then is restored, all the text is tiny and I have to manually reset the zoom level with ctrl-0 for that page. I don't see any option to tell this extension not to mess with the page zoom when suspending. Might go back to The Great Suspender until this is fixed.
Why did you make it impossible to find the hotkey assignments? A star lost just for that
Anti-optimization. Freeze on startup. I have 25 tabs opened. Before extension installed: 1k usage. After (all tabs suspended): 1,1k + very high cpu consumption + low loading! Trying to restart chrome many times and change configs - no solve the problem.
It works, but it's using *4.3 gigabytes* of disk space in IndexedDB logs and on the Chrome history and bookmark pages (ctrl-h and ctrl-shift-o), you lose the ability to middle click to open bookmarks/history items in new tabs.
I originally use the great suspender , that was great , but i can't know what the suspended tab is about i gave them 3 stars . now this extention solve the problem i like it ! 4 STARS !
I find 100 of extension to pause load page on new tabs background before i click active but can't found. until i found this extension. good job!!
Missing the one option I installed it for, to discard all tabs on startup. Also does not have option to not suspend tabs with unsaved form data, and no option to not grey out suspended tabs. (I don't know why this feature is so common. Greyed out tabs are harder to see what they are, making them harder to use.)
Ok until you close your browser. After reload in fails to unsuspend your tabs. With Just a click on unsuspend the window you'll get memory overhead only. Anyway all loaded tabs won't be usable because you'll see only blank screen without any possibility to restore normal state.
Great extension. Can you injected transform:scale style BEFORE applying the user style? Thanks
Why is this not built into all desktop browsers by default???!!! This is my new favorite extension. I set it aggressively to 2 minutes. Those sites that need to remain active like facebook messenger and espn scoreboard, are whitelisted. All news sites can't sit their and play sh!@ / run events in the background ever again! I didn't know I needed this extension until I just discovered it! Now just thinking about it, it's obvious why chrome team doesn't implement it. ...ads, spying, and a hit to their revenue. I can't wait until that day congress outlaws all fingerprinting, profiling, and tracking...and sites are forced to go back to a subscription model.
It suspended tabs without freeing any memory. My task managed kept displaying the same data so basically it doesnt do me any good. I clicked on 'remove from chrome', which resulted in the extensions being removed together with closing all my tabs. Tabs which I had gathered a few days and needed open. Reinstalled the extension with the hope of the tabs reopening... but that didnt work. Pressing 'unsuspected all' didnt work either. SUPER ANGRY.
New update enabled a setting that discards tabs. Extension now often crashes as well. Lost over a hundred tabs with no way to recover. Was a great extension, but useless now.
Just CLOSED all the tabs, not suspending them - and they do not show anywhere so cannot be resumed
Does the primary job of suspending tabs to conserve memory with my custom time limit. What I also like is the screenshot of the tabs content that is suspended when coming back to it and then click the refresh arrows to bring the tab back to life.
using more memory than saving 10 tabs
It closes all suspended pages when it disables without any traces. That's why I don't recommend this extension and I switched back to the Great Suspender extension.
cant seem to use the suspend functionality anymore :(
This helps my browsers to run faster. I love this extension. I use it on Firefox and Opera, too.
Loved this extension until the most recent version. The new permissions are excessive without sufficient information about why the increase. I have a problem when something wants the ability to mess with information on sites and content on my system. Since these weren't required before, and the extension worked fine, I would expect some sort of reason as to why the change, but I got nothing.
Except reloading everything is perfect! I have to wonder why there is no similar functionality in chrome by default - android's chrome seems to 'suspend' tabs without issues.
is not working
I didn't expect the plethora of options that are configurable. I appreciate the granularity to which we can control the behavior/view/etc. Thanks for making this extension. I really like the ability to keep all my tabs open and just let this extension handle performance. Is there an export option for the settings? Thanks again.
Pretty good, frees up memory, nicely configurable whitelisting by domain or page. Stable for me on Mac, Win10, Win7 (all with Chrome up to date). Odd bug when page is suspended on retina display (Mid 2015 MacBook Pro High Sierra). It shifts the image down by half the viewport, and to the right by half the viewport. So the top left corner ends up at the center of the viewport. Raw screenshot - https://i.imgur.com/x7PMTWY.jpg (Not raw - https://imgur.com/x7PMTWY) Other than that, I haven't had any issues.
Great when it works right, but I just uninstalled because it ignored the timer to reinstall and it CLOSED ALL OF MY TABS AND I CAN'T RECOVER THEM
This seems to have broken in the last few days. Some of my suspended pages are getting error messages and won't come back. I'm removing this extension.
Great to free up memory. Highly recommended.
Must have for anyone who is used to open a lot of tabs
Ignore pinned tab does not work
Last version replaces icons on all suspended windows to suspend icon. Completely unuseful now.
the extension doesn't quite work as i'd hoped. i'd hoped to find an extension that could simply unload a webpage without unloading its title and web address, thus leaving the name and web address intact for other extensions like tabs outliner -which is a bookmarking extension. one of the features of tabs outliner is that you can save and share the useful links you've accumulated, but this is not possible if the links have been replaced with unique links that only refer back to a unique tab suspender database. please consider amending this! sadly, i still haven't found extensions that can replace all the functions of yesteryear's firefox with session manager and bartab. i'd really hoped this extension could mimic bartab by unloading the page but retaining the web address and title (which would also fix the problem of losing extension data from crashing). please consider adding this feature, thanks!
