It is basic (select text, right click, and left click on read text) I actually appreciate that feature in this product. It is completely free, and it works. I use it at work and school. Been using it about a month. Love it. 10/10 best free text reader extension on chrome.

╬ So far soooo good. simple and effective. my ONLY problem is that I'm having a hard time getting it to save settings and keep'em that way. I set rate of speech to 'fast' but it loves to constantly default back to 'normal'. If i could get it to stay on the 'fast' speech setting, then i would describe it as perfect. Less is more when it comes to certain tools and what you need from them. This one fits that category, as it does Exactly what you need, no more, no less. Works great & no unnecessary bloat included....something that's rare anymore. I could kiss the dev for being a decent human being on this spoken front. But since my kisses are for the misses, please settle for a well deserved...KUDOS! Kudos to the dev for getting it right! ╬ (apprec, brodega!)

Reads fine.

It works great, very helpful for long textbook readings. Though for some reason the reader will pause before moving on to the next line unless there a word is broken up. If it could get fixed, that would be perfect. If it doesn't that's okay too, I'll just work with it. For example: I really like this text (pause) reader. or I really like this text rea- der. (no pause, reads smoothly through)

It's great, works like a charm and a good amount of options. No complaints, though it isn't perfect, nothing is.

My English voice had a horrendous Dutch accent.. Otherwise the application worked well

If you need assistance reading text on all websites this is the help you need. A must have for any one with good reading abilities or not just highlight the text and hit the black reader icon and let this extension read it for you. And best of all its free to use.

At the outset, really thank you for such a nice chrome extension with such nice and clear voices, especially best Hindi / हिन्दी voice which seems bilingual as it converts very nicely Hindi / हिन्दी and English both the languages into Indian style voice. 1. Which Hindi / हिन्दी voice is it? Is it Amazon poly – Hindi Aditi voice? 2. I want to use your Hindi / हिन्दी voice in my youtube channel for making educational videos. But I am confused here if I should use this Hindi / हिन्दी voice should be used in my youtube channel or not without inviting copyright problems and without troubling monetization of my video / channel? I have educational institute www.iceel.net I use audacity software to record the voice being generated by your extension. It has a function to capture pc sounds. Thus, whatever your extension reads aloud, is getting recorded into this software and I get then .mp3 file as output. It has been great. But I have not been able to change the speed in the past few weeks, and the voice has is only the man's. I would change the speed to fast, but it would read at "normal". When I check the options, it's snapped back to normal.

Pretty great, I like the choice for reading speed, but have ever considered making a speed that is even f a s t e r?

I use the app occasionally. The good: It's free & easy to use, just select the text, click on the app moji and we are off. The bad: the female default voice is extremely annoying, both in pitch and tone, not to mention the very unnatural and synthetic sound. I've realised this is he reason I don't use it more often so I'm letting it go. Pity. I might revisit in the future. I hope improvements are made.

Good but I wish there was a Slow option for talking speed instead of only Normal and Fastest.

I do not like this extension for two main reasons. It does work and reads unlimited amounts of text. Here is what I do not like and the reason for the uninstall. 1st, you have no choices of voice. I hate the default female voice. I personally like Microsoft David and there is no way to control the speed of the text to speech that you are hearing. I would like to be able to speed things up and slow them down. Do these two things and I might consider reinstalling this extension in the future.

its good i installed on 29/10/19 on updated Chrome browser but hindi audio not listed in??

Ignore the 1 star illiterates. The best of it's kind! Does what it says. Very small footprint. Even works on my mobile browser!. No permissions of any kind needed which unlike roughly %99 of all the extensions in the chrome store that do the exact same thing as this one. So why is it these others need access to "all the data on all websites visited" and more to operate and yet Selection Reader needs none of that and still works flawlessly. Kinda makes you wonder doesn't it, well if not then it should. Big thanks to the developer!

I've tried lots of text to speech extensions but I like this one the best, it is so simple! But it can't be used for pdfs or ebooks which is frustrating, but I think that's the same for all text to speech extensions :(

Love the extension, works well 99% of the time. However, I'm wondering why the female voice was removed and replaced with a slightly more robotic male voice. Is there a way to change that back?

It's fine, but the normal reading setting is a bit too fast for me. Good pronunciations though.

Its ok as a web page reader, but the downside you can not copy and paste text that you want. It reads the whole freakin' page even the ads. Give us more control over this.

Simple and straight forward; no learning curve. I have used it a dozen times since I loaded it an hour ago.

The voice is very good quality and it works on any site. I would only ask if the dev can add keyboard shortcuts to turn on/off.

What I was looking for, but needs a little work. no console to stop/pause reading. Have to highlight passage - no instructions evident. No choice of voice. Voice inconsistent timbre.

It doesn't require a lot of permissions and does a really good job. Some of the pronunciations are off. Like "colon" sounded like "cologne". I actually like being able to highlight exactly what I want to be read.

Simple and easy to use. Just add it and then select the language, highlight what you want to be read outloud and done!!! Does not cost a penny! Thank you, it was exactly what i was looking for.

Where has this been all my life? This is the greatest extension. Working on my doctoral and after awhile all the words just seem to blend in together. now when that happens, highlight and BAM!Thank you for making this!

It's a usable extension. The problem that annoys me is that there tends to be unusually long pauses at the end of lines, as if it reached a period in a sentence, even if the rest of the sentence continues on the next line. I've compared this with other similar extensions that do not exhibit this issue.

Wonderful. This is a must have for anyone using Chrome period.

For free it's excellent. Thank you to the creators. Once added, highlight the text you want read to you, click the little speaker in top right corner and away it goes. Couldn't be simpler.

Hi David, I've tried this extension and Speakit. I find the pronunciation in Selection Reader quite good (much better than Speakit) although the voice is slightly robotic. I can live with this. I normally listen on fast speed but feel an ability to adjust words per minute speed would be helpful to tweak a desireable listening speed. Next, the duration of the period pause needs to reduced by perhaps, half. I find it to be just too long. The current length is suitable for a break between paragraphs. The pause time of the period and coma in speakit I find to be good but the poor pronunciation erks me. If you can adjust the duration in Selection Reader I'll happily adjust to 5 stars. Thanks for this plugin.

Fabulous in Chrome browser! I love it! Sadly, in UC Browser it doesn't work. The context menu items are there, and the toolbar icon turns to a red speaker, but no sound plays. It's not because of any volume settings; I'm switching back and forth between Chrome and UC and Chrome works.

Fast reading speed is too slow

Great and work really nice. It has a US female voice of G. To stop it, just DESELECT the text and it'll stop.

Perfect. The best I have seen sofar. Works perfectly with a .txt file. Option request: "Read all" so that I do not have to select the whole text.

Excellent App, My only gripe is that it has been updated and the voice is now an american accent and not the english one it used to be. If there is a way to change this then pardon my ignorance but i do not have time to figure it out while i have end of year exams on. EDIT: The english voice came back. 5 Stars

Great! I tried around 6 of these Text to Speech and this is one the best. Very good speech without gaps and no robotic voice. Very close to a natural voice. I highly recommend!

When highlighting text and having it read it ... nothing happens. It does nothing!

Does what it says, but the voice is kind of annoying and there arent any speed customizations.

Works brilliantly. Like the other reviews, it'd be nice to have options to change the speed of the voice. Also on online pdf files, there is a slight pause between the lines which causes a minor disturbance.

I like this extension. It is very useful. Just wondering how you change languages? The options menu is grayed out and I can't seem to select it.

Read Russian very well until today. I was so happy! But today it stopped reading Russian at all. It still reads English. Re-installation did not help.

Excellent extension, works really well, doesn't stop mid paragraph like many other text to speech apps.

It works relatively good. I just wish there was some other voices. But, it doesn't cut off like the Microsoft Word speaker does. You did good.

So far so good! Love that it is a smooth, female, (UK) English voice and is clear with a reasonable speed! Only issue so far, seeing as it is still quite new, is that when it reads some words, the volume blasts at the beginning of the word (e.g.. Swipe UP to the RI-ght to open the WEB page). Also, words are cut off and the sentence is dropped on the odd occasion in the same places (e.g.: It cannot open 32-bit application because 64-bit versions use 64-bit values so they ta--...) and then i have to select the text after that for it to continue to next cut off despite the page being selected for reading. Other than that, i honestly feel that this is one of the best chrome TTS extensions. Hope to see UI additions to it, like other TTS apps (e.g. volume and speed) but it is a useful, free tool that does what it says - it reads what's selected!

Does what it says. Reads really long documents. Nice voice to listen to. Only have to right click. Some google drive docs it cant read, but if you open pdfs with other drive apps anyway to highlight or whatever it will work in the apps anyway.
