I it is very buggy on Chrome Ubuntu 18.04 In the end I preferred not to use it rather punching my keyboard...

Works great for adding code blocks easily when dealing with development support emails. Thanks for making this!

Where has this been all my life! Works great in Outlook 365. For those reporting it taking up CPU processing power... I think that's changed. However chrome also allows the following workaround. Change "Site access" to "On click" in Chrome's Manage Exentions -> Markdown Here -> Details. I then use right click -> Markdown Toggle over selected text in the text box to convert to markdown. Takes 41mb of RAM and 0.1 CPU.

Leaks memory and consumes cpu while idle

I liked it a lot. However, toggling moves the pointer to the beginning of the message, and therefore, it becomes annoying to switch back and forth between edition and preview.

Sadly this extension stopped working in gmail quite some time ago, and has not recovered ever for me. Reporting a bug on the github site gives me assurances that I should just reinstall and all will work again, but that is simply not the case. What to do?

There are no words to discribe how this has changed my life. It looks so much cooler now than before just like my emails.

Fantastic extension -- it's feature complete, doesn't broadcast your data to a third party, and is open source so can be audited. I use it multiple times per day.

doesn't work anymore

Doesn't work for me at all. I tried with **Hello Markdown** `code snippet` or ``` multilin code snippet ``` on gmail compose mail. Markdown toggle never worked. Stupid app. Had to uninstall it right away.

Absolutely awesome! Really speeds productivity once you get the hang of it. (Have to restart gmail for it to take effect). Haven't had any speed troubles.

This is awesome. So much easier to write formatted emails with code in it than using the rich text editor. Plus syntax highlighting.

It does what you want it to. On click it converts plain text to markdown in gmail. Not pertaining to performance: The ui is ugly. lol

Found it consuming 10–11% of CPU while idle according to Chrome’s Task Manager.

This extension is really impressive, it does everything I need for markdown. The problem is about compatibility and performance with some common webapps.

Awesome tool!

I loved this extension. As many have reported, it has a bad conflict with Gmail Offline and Google Drive. When it is enabled at the same time that either of those Google extensions is enabled, they very quickly start using 100% CPU. I have had to disable Markdown Here, even though I miss it terribly. If this were fixed, I would use it daily.

Quite useful but eats so much CPU I just had to uninstall it.

Great extension, but: on Mac OS X 10.9 when Chrome starts it takes 100% CPU. Workaround: disable and re-enable the extension. Developers, please fix this bug!

I enjoyed this extension for a bit, but it was causing Chrome to have an energy impact of over 190. My Mac was running super hot for no reason. I disabled the extension and now I'm not afraid to open browser tabs anymore. Great idea but the performance is terrible.

Does exactly what it should do in a neat way.

I liked using this plugin for adding nicely-formatted LaTeX equations to my e-mails from time to time, but recently I had an issue where this plugin was pegging out three full cores of my processor, causing my computer to run hot and my battery to die very quickly. I had to un-install the plugin to fix the problem, and now am a little gun shy to go back to it. Good service, so if it doesn't cause your computer to try to burn itself up then I would recommend it, but if you find you are having weird battery issues and your machine is running full speed without doing anything, you may want to check whether disabling this plugin helps.

It was working fine and then decided to irrecoverably delete my email. Why on earth would that even be something within it's responsibility?

I don't normally write reviews, but this is a pretty awesome tool. I wish you guys have a desktop version of this!

Toggling markdown has no effect on my text. Using it on gmail.

Works brilliantly with Evernote.

Definitely a "must have" extension. Love it. And the customisation for syntax is a nice feature (my fav: Monokai Sublime)

I use markdown for all my notes and finally there is a great tool to paste that directly to gmail. Tables, lists, syntax highlighting, everything works flawlessly. If you use markdown you will love this! p.s.: the only thing that bothers me a little is that after editing it in rendered mode you can't come back without loosing your changes. This is easy to bypass if you run into habit of coming back from rendered form every time you need to make a change.

It would be nice if you could add support for Google Inbox. I dislike having to switch back to gmail for any formatted email I need to send.

Awesome extension. Provides an excellent method for rendering Markdown in-browser for apps like Gmail and Evernote. One of the most useful lil guys I've found yet.

I wanted to learn Markdown and what easier way than email to get started? I installed this on my Chromebook and it was fine. Then to my surprise and delight it showed up on my Mac in the Chrome browser. Some may not like that but I see it as desirable as the contact information I enter on one device showing up on all my devices.

Very nice. Docs should mention to close Gmail and reopen to enable, at least I had to do this with an in-progress email open while I installed the plugin. This plugin solves two important problems: 1) Provides markdown HTML that matches gmail font styles. 2) Allows quick and easy conversion from markdown to html straight in the composition window. Excellent.

No file:// protocol support?

Crashes graphics driver, using hd 7950 with i7-3770k cpu. any page with text box causes drivers to crash and system to hang.

There are other Markdown converters, but typically they require you to cut/paste from your markdown into whatever other interface/window is the ultimate destination. For those who like to format without the mouse and who get into the Markdown mode, this is a real labor saver. Email, but also Wordpress interface, Evernote, so many web based writing spaces can function with this plugin. Tremendous boon for my workflow. And it's simple, yet effective. I'm looking forward to playing with the customization options too. Nice these are available though it works brilliantly just out of the box.

I'm constantly emailing other developers snippets of code, URL schemas and API endpoints. Before I discovered this extension I'd usually indent blocks and set them to a monospaced font. Now, it's as easy as writing markdown: back-ticks for inline code, 4 space indents for blocks. Awesome. Oh, AND it does syntax highlighting.

It is great. however, there is a big problem, when I input m in google search, there will be a popup, telling me that "the selected field is not a valid for markdown rendering. Please use a rich editor" I don't know how to fix it...

Get control of your HTML email, toggle back and forth until it's just the way you want it. Then <SEND> ... and smile.

Delivers exactly what I wanted. Fast, easy, and the LaTeX support is wonderful. Highly, highly, highly recommend, especially for grad students emailing their advisors.
