I used to love this app until the reduced the number of sites you can block with the free version down to 3 (i.e. basically useless). If you're an advanced user, a search for how to block DNS resolution on your platform will show you how to block URLs from resolving to IP addresses -- which is both more effective and a more robust cross-browser solution.

This extension sucks. A limit of blocking THREE sites in the free version? Might as well be pay-to-download since the free version is useless. And all your replies are clearly written by a bot and just asks people who give 1 or 2 stars to give 5 stars. No, I will not be giving 5 starts, you annoying bot, so don't bother asking me to! Password protection is an essential feature. Without it, you can just delete a site from your blocklist in 3 easy clicks. But you have to PAY for it. The extension is useless without password protection (not that it's very good even with it), and making you have to pay for it basically makes there be no point in downloading the free version. Paying for this to block sites when there are other extensions that have the same features but are 100% free is a scam and a waste of money. I encourage you to look for alternatives. I will no longer be keeping this extension,

You really need to require huge amount of discipline for this extension to work on yourselves. For the majority of people using it, will probably get what's called a reverse psychology. When something directly tell you something, does the opposite. This extension also directly tells people who goes into a blocked website, to go back to work, which is going against what anyone wants to do, so they get the urge to unblocked that website or even removing this extension. Well, i'm not only here to just talk about how bad the system of this extension is, but I'm also giving a suggestion to your extension! Here's the gist. So whenever people go to a website that is blocked by an extension, they would get hit with a usual page of "This webpage is not available". Why does this work? First of all, the page doesn't directly tell the person but indirectly, so reverse psychology is now not a problem. Second, it gives that person a thought/sense of inaccessibility when first seeing the page. Lastly, when giving a second thought, the mind can use that sense of inaccessibiility to redirecting their thoughts of what they were suppose to be doing. But their is also one con of this and it's the fact that people should have the require amount of intention/obvious realization they have to not unblocked the website.

Huge waste of time. Someone can simply remove the extension from chrome without a password, and then there's no website blocker... How is this a blocker when someone can easily take it off without a password or anything.

Focus mode does not work anymore, youtube is in the list but I still can visit Youtube when focus mode is "on". The timer of focus mode has lots of bugs, it would not show the correct time sometimes. I already reinstall this after the same bug, it worked for the first few times but not anymore now.

Really dislike the million popups and bloat that nobody asked for. As a new user it's really annoying to have to close 50 popups before being able to use the extension, if I wanted a tutorial on what an input field does (even though it's self-explanatory) I would've asked for it. Also who in their right mind decided that achievements/rewards was a good idea? Ah yes! I finally unlocked the "Add a site to your block list ???" achievement! I am so thrilled! Wow! I unlocked the "Enable sync across devices ????" reward! Amazing! Jesus christ. However, after your initiation as a new user is over and the storm has calmed, it works as expected and it's neat to be able to sync your settings across devices.

Waste of money. Poor performance makes this extension unusable. I paid for a lifetime subscription and then I uninstalled it. Slows down Chrome way too much if you add even 10 sites to the block list. 48 CPU Cores @4.1Ghz, 128GB RAM

used to like it, but now when active, it prompt a "download denied" from my antivirus whenever I google something. This is trash now. Do not install and delete it.

So this addon want to have my ENTIRE BROWSING HISTORY?! Why this even exist?! This is a HUGE security risk, everyone who is using bank website or any mail service should think twice before installing this addon!

I paid for the unlimited plan to actually be able to use focus mode for longer than 5 minutes and it was fine.... until once again... it STOPPED WORKING. I constantly have to uninstall and reinstall this app in order to get it to actually block the designated websites again. Focus mode will work the first 1 or 2 times you use it, but will inevitably glitch out and do absolutely nothing with the sites you list, meaning this app doesn't even do the bare minimum of what it says it does. Worst $50 I've ever spent, save your money and download a site blocker that actually works.

whitelist doesnt work properly ....pls fix it !!!

I've been using this extension for a long time, but the change to make the free blocklist so short is a real dealbreaker. There are many equivalent free services available. Especially the toxic practice of putting in paywalls and removing free features after a high star rating is obtained is insidious.

Focus mode used to work and was great, but stopped working since the last update (doesn't block sites, gets glitchy when you try to pause it)

it works well for blocking two sites. when i add the third one (the free service gives 3 blocking sites) it just doesn't block it. many a times, when i whitelist some, it absurdly blocks some and keeps some whitelisted. the coders gotta check what's the mistake in their code cuz the only better thing your extension does is UI lol. the functionality is great but i can only block THREE sites in the free version.

The app simply sometimes work and sometimes not. The schedule does not work at all. Sometimes it blocks sites that is not supposed to. Sometimes it blocks sites outside of schedule. It goes completely random... with many more similar apps, this is honestly just waste of time and money.

I downloaded it yesterday to block instagram and it worked fine. It blocked the website as according to the scheduled time. Great! Then today it stopped working. Nothing has been changed. The schedule time hasn't been changed. I can clearly go on instagram while the extension icon is saying that instagram is currently being blocked. I tried changing the schedule to see if it was it, nope. I added a new website to the block list and that website wasn't blocked either. The extension just stopped working.

This app has improved massively since my first 1 star review. Now, this app is amazing. I recommend getting the Lifetime version for $64 euros. It's worth it in time savings. You can get the lifetime access version through the iOS / Android app. I didn't see it on the desktop / extension version.

I have used the extension to eliminate all social media from my laptop except youtube and i have also used this extension to quit my porn addiction by blocking porn sites(url) and then enabling the extension in incognito mode...... i know many of you are looking to quit porn so the best way will be to block the sites you use and enable the extension in incognito mode.

awful, only blocks up to 3 url, showing annoying dialogs, showing ugly pictures whenever url is blocked.

My mom was trying to stop me from having fun. She brought the premium thingy. What is the point of it? All it lets you is to add more blocked sites to your list, password protection is allowed, and you can also create images using your own pictures. Does spending the money help my health? No. Does spending the money help my knowledge? NO! I think that this is just a scam to block sites for you and makes you to pay more money for more blocked sites. It is particularly useless. Also, it looks like everything was written "NOT" by an adult, but somebody less than 10 years old. Stuff like No Way, Jose, etc, so childish. You guys in blocksite really need to improve blocksite.

you get only 3 blocks before you need to subscribe monthly to keep using. how the hell does it have 4.5 stars with 26k+ reviews. but then when you check the actual reviews it seems like they did a switcheroo where it was free and then they limited its functionality and paywalled it behind a subscription

Absolutely horrible. All the features are premium, and I can't even block more than 3 websites at once. Furthermore, the premium membership is so costly. These scammers are just money greedy and trying to profit off of a daylight robbery. Absolutely dissapointed and highly unrecommended. Please do NOT add this extension. There are so many better ones that don't clutter your screen with prompts BEGGING you to buy the premium version, and allow you to block more than 3 websites. And I don't understand the need for this much money for premium. Even a completely inexperienced person in computer science can look up a tutorial on youtube on how to code a website blocker, and it would still be better than this one beacuse you can at least block more than 3 websites. Last but not the least, these greedy, money minded scums also have the gall to give me a 60% discount on the premium version. Who knows ? for that price they might only give me 60% of the remaining locked features. Such a shame that this is the website blocker that is first recommended when you search "website blocker".

I give it 3 start to be coherent with developers. The free version allows you only to add 3 - 5 sites/words to blocklist, after that you need to pay. Only adult content can be turned on/off in free version. Since Iam trying to get rid of this addiction for me that's ok, but for others you need to pay to unlock social/shopping/news, etc. I have bought the pro version and it is not worth it at all, the custom page is also very limited, you can't create your own. Also the text are limited, its like 100 characters for title and 200 or - 300 for text, IN A PRO VERSION? Really not worth paying.

This is not good if you are addicted to porn and it's only for parents who want to keep their kids safe. If you are using an extension like this one to beat porn addiction, it's too easy to get rid of it. All you have to do is uninstall the extension. The password protection thing is no longer free and you have to pay for it. They're clearly more interested in making money than helping you beat porn addiction.

Terrible pricing and basically worthless if you use the free version, since they only allow you to block 3 websites. Regarding the pricing, it only does one simple task and they are charging nearly as much as Office 365 does.

Used to support this extension but they reduced the free site cap from 50 down to just 3. Literally worthless. Premium is an extortionate $3.99/m

There are better products for cheeper and even for free. They charged me immediately after saying they wouldn't during a free 3 trial day and now they are making it difficult to receive a refund, if I get one at all. If you use this service, stick with the free one and don't trust what it says on their site.

Awesome tool to minimize distractions. YouTube is a tough beast to conquer, as you can't really delete it. With Facebook, Instagram, twitter etc. you can just terminate your account and be done with it - but YouTube you can always watch. That's why I really needed this extension and it helped me tremendously. As a bonus, I personally found it useful to redirect to a website with some nice motivation (I personally used "altl.io"). Cheesy, but it helps.

Site blocking feature does not work in focus mode.

You can only block three sites, then it's a subscription model. It's ridiculous. It was perfectly fine when they put reasonable limits, but I think some folks in charge here have delusions of grandeur. A product like this is never going to be worth a subscription.

The extension works and is break, but the fact that you can only add 3 websites to block on the free version is ridiculous. Should be able to add 5 websites at the least, maybe even 10.

Not blocking any site since today. I tried at 1 Am. Even in focus mode, nothing is happening. This does not add any value

You are immediately told you have some limit to block websites. I am just looking for a simple one liner javascript where a url with wildcards can be disabled. This is a whole company trying to make it seem impressive, like a coin flipping app which with premium allows you animate the coin flip. Like, bruh. Unless this is your expected experience, pick the recommended/similar extensions.

Trying to get more users to pay by downgrading the free experience (number of websites blocked) is not a great strategy.

I understand wanting to monetize, but having to pay for something as basic as blocking more than 3 websites is flat-out insulting. Maybe I would have just scowled and uninstalled if it was asking for a flat fee, but asking for a subscription?! That's the kind of blatant greed that gets me to spend the effort of writing a 1-star review. For shame. There are plenty of free alternatives, just look around.

I Don't like this blocker, i think this used to be a free version until now, i cannot even use until i buy the membership or whatever its called, i can deal without.

if you want to actually block anything, pay them money. otherwise it can easily be turned off. it also only blocks 3 websites for free. i guarantee there are thousands of website blocking tools that are better than this, but of course, this is the only one that shows up if you bother looking. worthless

I wish you could set more times in the schedule section. Being able only to select two different interval times is frustrating, and I have the paid version. I want to be able to set multiple intervals throughout the day, expanding for 2 hours at a time with a window of 15 minutes to check my blocked sites. This is so frustrating because everything else about the extension is excellent.

It would be much better if would add the feature that would enable me to set a timed pause on focus mode. That´s a dealbreaker for me!

The recent update seems to have broke it. Now the extension seems that i cannot be toggled on and off. I have the paid version.

Remove/Install the extension if it stops working. The app has too many glitches.

I have bought this app but too disappointed for paid version. Windows app too simple. extension on chrome couldn't run focus mode. too expensive. Wasted 48 usd/year. I though with this app 2$/year. Remember this is non refundable. After this, I have a lesson for paid app. expensive apps are sometimes terrible.

Even with password protection on we can simply uninstall the extension and access to the unproductive websites. It doesn't ask for password while uninstalling. What's the use of it then ?

I only installed to block things related to porn. However, after installing it blocks Mobiroller. I can't even access my account through Mobiroller through the backend page. https://mobiroller.com and its user account main page https://my/mobiroller.com have nothing do with porn. Mobiroller is a mobile app builder. Yet, Blocksite claims mobiroller has the word sex in it and is somehow connected to porn. I even whitelisted the links above and Blocksite still wont let me access my companies mobile app development page. I have chosen to uninstall this extension because they wrongfully block sites that have NOTHING to do with what I am trying to block access to for personal reasons. I can't even access my companies website builder https://bandzoogle.com Do not install this company's rubbish extension. Also they don't even have a way to contact support about this issue, which is a huge red flag.

I really regret updating this extension, now that they've decided to ruin it for free users and charge tons of money to un-ruin it. Guess I'm uninstalling this extension and finding a new blocker.

Thanks for ruining my favorite extension. By this time next year I'm sure they will have removed several more features for free users and doubled the price of the paid version. Not worth it, not even close.

Doesn't actually block even the three sites it claims to let you block, and it's just a vessel for delivering ads and trying to get you to pay for upgrades. Used to be great, but I'd never use and especially pay for this again the way it is now.

Awful extension. Install it, proceed to have a half dozen popups, then they try to string you out for money if you have more than 3 sites you'd like to block. Certainly there are better alternative extensions to do the same thing.

Why are so many people hating this app? I think it's cool and you can block up to 3 sites for free. Which is more than I need for Instagram and Youtube. You also have a focus timer for free. The features of premium are really cool and you can see the work put in this extension. Although I won't buy the premium because I don't need it, I don't think $4/month is offensively expensive.

Didn't even last 5 minutes on my computer. They could've gotten away with 3 or 4 dollars a month and I wouldn't have thought twice about it. There's just no chance I'm paying a yearly subscription for something like this. Sure the UI is nice and I'm sure there's more to it but $11 a month? I'm tired of predatory subscription models. More than adequate alternatives like LeechBlock are free.

Do not install. The goal of this extension is as basic as it gets, yet the developer is trying to sell it's basic feature to you as a service for $4 a month. What a laughing stock. If you don't know how to find an alternative to this kind of scummy extensions: 1. Go to the BlockSite extension page 2. Select Overview tab 3. Scroll down to Related extensions

The redirect does not work. If I paste "https://www" with the URL address, they ignore it, but that part is necessary for the redirect to go to the right website. What a waste of time.

I used to be able to block 6 websites for free. I'm not sure when it changed but I'm only able to block 3 websites for free and have to pay for more. What a total ripoff! Bring the 6 websites blocks for free. This is just sad.

any college freshman could code an extension to block a website in like less than hour if they know what they're doing. why the heck is there a subscription for this. this is absolutely cancerous and an example of microtransactions taken too far.

This extension used to be good a few years ago, but now the free features are very limited. Being able to only block 3 sites makes this extension not worth it, and the "BlockSite Unlimited" plan is way too expensive. I understand that the developers need money, so every time they get a negative review they reply with "BlockSite is a freemium service, consider trying the premium version out and reconsider your rating," but even the premium features aren't worth it. Take password protection for example, there are many easy ways to bypass it such as going into the extensions page and turning off the extension, right clicking and removing from your browser, or installing another browser without the extension. I would forgive it if it was free, as browser extensions aren't supposed to prevent you from uninstalling them, but a feature like this being paid is just unacceptable. There are a few pros with this extension, such as the keyword blocking working really well and a good user interface. However, the fact that more basic features of this extension are becoming paid just makes this extension not worth it.

It's ridiculous to only block 3 sites while wanting you to pay the equivalent of a Netflix subscription if you want to block more, especially when so many free alternatives exist.

Though I do wish there was a plugin to completely blacklist any mentions of site or phrases, this is the closest I have to that Though I did find it funny when it told me to "block roblox.com to increase productivity!"

Reduced the blocksite from 6 to 3 suddenly. At this point, it's just greed on the developer's part, and unless you plan to pay for premium, you would be better off using a different extension

main blocking function works fine tho it's silly that the site limit has been reduced to 3. also, the focus mode does not work at all even after chatting with support. it seems the developer is more focused on reviews than actually shipping a good product if you want a good site blocking extensions that doesn't require you to pay for standard functionality, try Forest, Nucleus or anything else

It looks like the limit was just reduced from 6 to 5 today, why? I tend to use the site to control my bad habits of browsing certain sites too often during the day. But sometimes I need to visit certain sites briefly for information, so I switch them off for a minute to read what I need to read for the day, and then I block it again so I don't get too caught up wasting time there. I just found that after removing one of my sites that I need to measure control over my usage of, I can't add it back because suddenly the limit has changed from 6 blocked sites to only 5. Why? EDIT: I also swapped out some more sites and discovered the limit is now set at 3. If it's going to be that small when it was 6 for the past couple of years, then I think I will just have to use a different block site program.

Lowering my rating from 5 to 1. I appears that the free version can only block 3 sites now which is not enough. I will be looking for another extension.

I would pay for the premium version of this if, when disabled, it could automatically turn itself back on after, say, 15 minutes, the same way sleep focus works on an iphone.

I totally understand the devs need subscription to make the ends meet, but the free version is unusable. 3 available block slots is just too few that it's hard to recommend it to anyone.

Edit: Really recommend it! I had a small issue with payment but the Blocksite team has been extremely supportive, and it took them no time to fix it. The extension itself works perfectly, it just wasn't a perfect match for my own workflow after testing it out and I missed the refund deadline, but they fixed it anyway even though they didn't have to. Bottom line: It's a great product! Lots of customization, slick UI, and it never fails or glitches: So if it matches the way work I'm sure it will be an excellent addition.

This is a great service, when it works. There are days when it does not block pages but it says "This site is currently blocked" when I click on the icon.

Amazing job and incredible marketing, choosing a black man, an annoying pewdiepie dog and old woman is an extremely good choice of options. Internet really understands that white people are the only ones with money and it's targeting them to convince them to pay. Which is not a problem we can afford it!

Great app for chopping down procrastination! First I thought a subscription was mandatory but the fact that it is not is greatly beneficial, especially for us students. Suggested this to all of my friends. I never actually go out of my way to write reviews on Chrome extensions, but my gratefulness to this app intrigued me to do so. Does what I need but starts giving me popups on unblocked sites seeing if I want to add it to my blocklist. I cannot find any setting to disable this. The irony of a focus app giving you more distracting popups.

Another Freemium software that just needs to be free. Pricing is outrageous for something so basic. You have no leg to stand on to charge more than what Nintendo charges for its online services. You're a plugin. + You can block like 20 websites if you don't pay 5 bucks every month. If you remove a website that you blocked to add another one, It won't let you and direct you to the paywall. I bet they sell your data if you don't pay too...

Scheduling does not work. So frustrating. Seems to be a problem that the extension can't detect the timezone of the computer/browser and there's no way to change it. How can such a simple extension have such a simple problem. So frustrating.

The "Adult" category from the "Blocked Categories" doesn't seem to be working, even though I am sure it is enabled. Blocking pornographic content was the main goal of downloading this extension

thanks 4 blocking vum.in.net I knew this was gonna happen. But I wanted to have the pug tab. It gives you random tabs when you go on the site thats blocked. This is like a site nanny.

tried to block a specific URL on youtube, one specific video that bothers my autistic daughter that she keeps clicking on (thats how autism works, dont criticize) and it blocked all of youtube instead. i only wanted to block one single thing. obviously not correctly programmed for this 25 year multi degree holding pc builder.....
