THis was perfect for my needs; I could take screenshots for my IT team and submit web links that were private, for free. Now I can only do video stuff and I don't use video recording often so it's useless and I have to find a new screenshot tool. Bummer.

dont start

I created an account and was excited to test this product for use as an educator. Creating an account was easy. They seem to have good support on how to use the product. I just wish I could actually test it out. I first tried using an older MacBook Pro and couldn't install the app because of a "no mountable file systems" error. I did a hard restart, redownloaded the app and repeated. No change. I then tried using my 2021 Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 and now get an error saying the app is "not compatible." WTH?!? Either it works across platforms or it doesn't? I know my Lenovo is not the beefiest Chromebook on the market, but I've never had issues before like this. The developer should really make the hardware requirements clear before advertising their product as available. Also... I tried to contact the developer through their website. But it appears that may only be for show. I've not been able to submit a ticket despite using multiple machines and multiple browsers.

Impossible to launch. Tried to launch it from the webpage, from the extension, from the manual download - nothing. There are no topics covering a complete failure to launch in the FAQ. I've submitted a help ticket but to be honest at this point I'm so frustrated I think I'll use a different software anyway.

The fact you can't logout is hysterical. Access to browser history unless we uninstall? Bet.

Always excited to record in the screen-o- matic, i love sharing my recording to my students and their parents as well, but it is not really time for me to upgrade, we will come to that point, but right now, i am just enjoying what i have recorded, listening to them over and over and keep on improving. thank you so much for an amazing apps.

Such an amazing apps. what is amazing with it ,is its features, tools, recording and more. i love using Screencast-O-Matic especially if I have to record for my students..i love it, but still need a lot of time to be used to it. Thank you so much.

It was great up until it completely stopped working today. It opens just fine, but when I try to record, it's just a white box and nothing loads. So, it was great while it lasted I guess.

I'm a high school science teacher, and this has been a life-saver for remote learning! I'm not often looking for a ton of bells and whistles, and this is a really intuitive, easy-to-use screencasting app that allows me to post worked examples, narrated notes, and other content within minutes. My chemistry classes in particular benefit from my ability to respond to feedback with worked examples to help them understand a problem-solving concept. One of my favorite pandemic tech discoveries!

Way way slower loading time than loom or CloudApp. Nevertheless I use it at least a dozen times every week, as I have a paid account and can record longer tutorials or screen-capture vids. About half the times, though, I open the actual software, so I don't have to wait for the extension loading. I REALLY HOPE the extension loading time will be solved soon and will load as fast as loom....

It didn't let me use it without logging in, and even then I logged in with Google and it still wouldn't let me record anything.

This is horrible. - 1. You need to sign in and when I sign in with my account, it tells me I already signed in (which I know). But the problem is, I can't access my account. 2. Well yeah, I would suggest goCast screen recording.

Works GREAT!

The recording itself lagged what i was doing for the first few minutes, but then it started running more smoothly. I then checked the playback of the video i recorded and it was 3 times as choppy as it was while it was recording.

This review is given due to the fact that they acccesed for information then they should've and led me to change my password, secure my account. This app technically hacked me.

Whenever I try to sign into my account after apparently signing into my Google account, I tried to log into it whilst using my Google account but it didn't do anything. Then I tried putting in my gmail and my gmail's password but it still didn't work and instead a message below "Last logged in with Google" said to set up my password for the account. I tried pressing that button but it wouldn't take me anywhere, and then after I remove my cursor from hovering over the "Click here to set up password" it then underlines it confusing me into thinking that it was supposed to be underlined when my mouse pointer was hovering over it. Please fix this issue it is very upsetting and I really want to record something for my YouTube channel and stuff. I've seen these reviews and it seems like this is the best screen recorder I can possibly use at this moment, and I really wanna try this one out. Thanks for reading.

This has been a very helpful extension as a teacher during remote learning! I appreciate the longer recording limit than other options.

This works well for me. It's easy to use. Just what I needed to be able to show my school kids and fellow teachers specifics while I am at home. This makes it easier to teach from home.

I love this video recorder. I use it to make presentations for my classes. It is the easiest recorder I've found that allows me to use the presenter view on a powerpoint presentation while also allowing me to record the slides along with myself presenting. So thankful to have found it.

Not letting me log into my account. I already had a Screencast-O-Matic account with my Google account, but wasn't letting me login. Thought it was a bug with my account so I created a new one. Still isn't letting me. Basically, extension became useless.

Prefect for capturing short screen recordings to share with support teams. Love that one can upload with a custom title description. I use it several times a week.

Love everything about it EXCEPT that it never recognizes the correct microphone, and even if I set it to use the correct mic, it keeps defaulting back to my system mic.

I am using it for my on line lessons and it's a very useful tool. Thank you very much.

Tried out first time. Quite easy to make a video. But my video is quite noisy. This may be due to some issues from my side. Going to check up on this. It may be either problem with my mic or from the surroundings ( room fan?). I plan to move to paid version. Thanks.

Perfect for creating screen recordings, webcam presentations, and for making great content. I have been using the Screencast-O-Matic Recorder for 4 years, and their version of this app on the Chromebook is amazing.

It's not that bad for a free video recorder, but my only problem is that the video lags a lot which is a annoying mostly because I want everything to run nicely. I know that's a stupid thing to complain about, but whateves.

Really enjoying this. It helps me make sure my students can watch a you tube video without dangerous ads or suggested content.

it wont let me sign in with my google account

I teacher's dream. Great product and it is worth the money to upgrade to the more advanced version. What I like most is the FREE professional development opportunities found online for the product. They teach you all of the tips and tricks and issue you a certificate/badge at the end! I can't stop using it.

Works well: good audio, excellent screen recording, good free options (thank you!), does a fine job for what I need it to do - record the screen and my narration for videos for students. For free! 15-minute limit which is really good: keeping things concise is best. The only issue is that every once in a while, the recorder won't launch. I'll have to try a few times. The app won't launch, so I try to launch from the browser (and vice versa). Or I have to restart my computer, and then voila! it now appears when I click on the launcher. Not sure what that is about. Otherwise, really, really like it. Thank you, developers!

This is an amazing extension for the most part. I occasionally have issues with the record button refusing to pop back up when I hit the launcher, but other than that I love it!

login is all messed and terrible

Screencast-o-matic is my tool of choice for screencasting. Even though I pay for the upgrade, before I did, this was the only tool that offered up to 15 minutes for free and they still do!

I prefer Screencast-O-Matic to Screencastify. It's a friendlier program. Sadly, our school district has opted to purchase the other one. Fortunately, the 15-minute limit in this basic version is more than enough for any tutorial I need to create. It gives the user the option to record just the screen, or just the camera, or both. The only reason I might buy the premium version would be to edit my recordings. It's a good thing I'm just not that picky.

So I've only made one video with this so far, but it's already WAY better than Screencastify! Highly recommend!

This program is easy to use which is awesome for someone like me who is not as techie as others. I am trying it out this year to help flip my classroom. I am hoping that using this feature allows me to save class time for more meaningful assignments as we move more towards a distance learning environment.

It sucks. I cant use it because when i hit "get the recorder" after installing it, it takes me to a blank tab that i cant reload. Its unusable.

Awesome. Easy to use with no fuss. Does exactly what it says and allows you to capture your screen quickly and easily. Once done it is really easy to publish the video and send a link - ideal for small training clips or sorting out tech issues where you can easily show someone what to do. I love it.

This is good for new one.Highlighter and pen should be make available for screen recorder.

I bought the Deluxe option. Periodically the recorder signs me out and treats me as if I had not paid which means I can only record for 15 minutes. It takes me about 20 minutes to figure out how to sign in again. Uninstall, install again, sign into the website, delete the extension. I'm using a Chromebook. IT's really frustrating. I contacted them and they answered a week later with a pretty an answer that wasn't helpful.

huge fan of Screencastomatic!

I love using Screencast-o-matic for distance learning. It makes teaching from a distance so much easier. I can share my screen and let my students see me while I am teaching. The only issue I have with this program is it occasionally crashes on me while I am taping. I usually give it a little time and it starts working again.

It's good for beginners. Addition of more tools will help a lot.

It's great when it works, but half the time when I click the extension, it tells me I need to install the recorder...which is already installed. Crashes often too.
