Used to work. Now doesn't. And yeah I restarted the browser. Now if I click a mailto link on a website, it takes me to a browser page that says This site can’t be reached The webpage at https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?tf=cm&to=***SOME EMAIL ADDRESS***&cc&bcc&su&body&fs=1 might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address. I can access gmail just fine though.
Works for me, I chose the force open in new window option, went back to the page I wanted to test, refreshed the page, clicked the mailto link, and got a new gmail window open in chrome, exactly as desired.
doesn't work
sadly doesnt work for me
Works fine for me for pages on the web, but not for links in files stored locally (e.g. an HTML file on my Windows computer desktop).
Update Oct 2020 - Works in my Google Chrome v85. (You have to restart browser after adding this extension.) You also may need to go into Windows default apps protocols and change your Mail to Chrome or a different browser I guess.
I was hoping that this extension would cause mailto links to open in gmail. It does not do that. It does not do anything as far as I can tell.
Excellent! Opening Apple Mail every time I clicked on a mailto: link was annoying. This works much better.
Give an option to remove from Menu bar. This app would be perfect if it had that! I even tried uninstalling your app but the Menu item persisted, so I am reporting this bug to Google.
Has stopped working
Doesn't work with Brave 0.67.124, which, like Chrome, is built on open-source Chromium. On Windows 10, clicking a mailto: link launches the native Mail app.
Thank baby jesus
It either works or it doesn't and right now it doesn't.
worked without a hitch.
Finally Something that works!!!!
Work as should work, all well!
Works well here on 64 bit Windows (was redirecting to Inbox, now GMAIL). I want mailto links to open in a new window otherwise you could just set up the Chrome protocol handler (which stupidly doesn't open it in a new window).
Needs to get rid of auto-popup installation page that plagues chrome store extensions. I log into many computers, and get bombarded with intrusive popups from many extensions being installed, and this one is part of the problem.
i wanna know why when i click on an email link to send an email it opens TWO windows every time this has been happening forever!
Works for me!
good
Works fine. To install, I set windows 10 default mail app to be chrome, then installed the extensions and refreshed the website with the mailto link.
OK, but would be 50 times better if you could choose which account to use.
It doesnt work
Does not work at all :-(
It does not work for me either... On mac it just opens that horrid apple mail application.. Don't want to diss the developers of this plugin because of a chrome change..
Does not work, even after a restart
Not working well for me - it always opens 2 new tabs with the same email.
Works :)
excelente! thanks a lot!
Great!
Didn't work even after I restarted the computer
It's okay, because it won't let me choose the accout I want to use. I have a private and business gmail. I know you just have to change a number in the link, but it would be nice if this extension would let me choose the gamil account I want to use.
It works great, unless you middle click the link. That puts the mailto: in a new tab and does nothing with it.
Google, hire this man! Or at least buy (t)his extension and Chrome brower default (this sh)it!! (Google Chrome Extensions made my life easier) Edit: only after my review I read some other reviews... Seems it is an option already (thnx Tygr Tat). @Google; Plz promt a user with this option!
It's great! Works well! My only suggestion would be if when you clicked on an email it a) opened up in a pop-up instead of a new window or b) opened up the email in the inbox.google.com tab that I already have open. THANKS CHRIS!
Very useful if you do not have administrator rights on your PC (useless otherwise, just click on the double diamond in the url tab when showing Gmail and give the authorization).
Stopped working.
awesome
Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks! And yes, this extension is useful. It might not be necessary under Chrome, but for peoples like me who do not like being spied by Google and prefer to use a better browser like Vivaldi, it is a must have.
Opened two Mail windows and no GMail windows. Running OS X El Capitan.
It starts the compose window with the wrong Gmail account, and there is no way to reset to a different account.
Why would someone need this if you can do this without an extension? Pointless.
Oh thank god. I cant stand the sound of Apple Mail opening up.
This does what it says! It is excellent if you have one gmail account. So the needed improvement is have some kind of handling for switching gmail accounts for sending. Lastly the easiest quick fix is to allow the user to edit the url bar to switch the account manually.
I tried the other mailto apps but this is the only one which opened a new tab with a Gmail compose window. Don't know what the others are doing, they offered no config help.
doesn't work
It just doesn't work. Pointless.
I'm so glad that it finally occurred to me that there may be an extension to redirect "mailto:" links to my Gmail. I love this extension!
Doesn’t work at all.
It's great! Can you add support for Google Inbox (enhanced Gmail UI)?
SO far so good - just what I was looking for. Thanks
doesn't work
Excellent, je regrette juste qu'il ouvre une nouvelle connexion temporaire gmail sans voir que gmail est déjà ouvert, mais pas grave. Gros plus : le message est bien placé dans dans la boîte messages envoyés.
doesn't work
Does nothing in Windows 10
Doesn't work.
It works!
Does not work now anymore
Needed to 1) Set the force to open in a new window option 2) Refresh open tabs (twice) Then it just works.
just works!
Doesn't work....
cannot rate something that does not work
IT COOL MAN!
It didn't work and appears I'm not alone
Caused 2 gmail windows to open. Useless extension since Chrome already supports this by default.
doesn't work
Did not work on Windows 7 (tried reloading tab/browser). I did however find a way to get chrome to handle mailto without a plugin/extension: go to gmail website, in the far right of the address bar is an icon looking like two overlapping tilted squares (next to the star favourite icon), click this and select "allow gmail to open all email links" and voila!
This just straight up doesn't work on Ubuntu.
at least with me explorer integration does not work. (i use right-click a lot) ok, but could be better.
it doesn't work for me -- chrome/Windows 10. mailto links didn't work before and still don't
Doesn´t work at all. still opening external mail utility.
does not work
Isn't working...
I've been using Mailto: for Gmail for ages now and have never had a single problem. It works so well, you'd think it was feature of Chrome itself.
doesn't work
Does what it says on the tin. But doesn't have any support for Gmail's multi-account feature. You're only able to use mailto: links for emails you want to send with your primary account. If you use multiple Gmail accounts, and want a mailto: to send from a secondary account, you're S.O.L. :( Any chance of seeing some sort of account-choice feature added to this in the future, for those of us who need to send emails from more than one Gmail address?
Did nothing.
work well. Dont forget to restart chrome after you install!
Ads are appearing in my email window - they weren't there before!
Thanks, exactly what I need since I use both gmail and google apps.
This extension is something really needed in Chrome, so thanks :D but when I use it, it opens a correct mailto: window and a blank tab with just mailto:<email> I am launching from an IPB forum, is there something I need to adjust with the mailto: link targets to stop this?
Does exactly what it's supposed to.
Would be great if it could tell if gmail is already open in another tab and just switch to that tab and open the compose window in it instead of launching the gmail website. That would save a lot of time since launching a new gmail window takes a while.
Thanks! works immediately.
Very useful and finally I can get rid of annoying windows mail
It does what it claims. No foolishness at all. Since it is well behaved, top rating.
TOP!
Worked after browser restart on Chrome
Does what is says it will do. Thanks.
Does what I need it to do.
fantastic! I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, on an old Atom based Netbook with Chrome browser. Works perfect!
Doesn't work for my chrome 35 Mailto: links still open up my Thunderbird.
Works great! By default, the draft opens in a new tab; and upon sending the email, the tab closes automatically. Fast, nice and clean. Many thanks to the developer(s).
I think I can get rid of firefox now
Love the description, and it is accurate. Finally a solution that works on Windows 8.1 with no pain!
Perfect.
Works, now I don't have to open a not-logged-in Microsoft outlook window.
Worked after browser restart on Chrome 31.0.1650.63 in Ubuntu 13.04. No apparent option to select whether to use my personal GMail account vs. my work Google Apps account, though.
Doesn't work. Mailto: links still open up in Mail.
It worked for a while, then disappeared, either with v.27 or with the introduction of a separate enterprise account pushed onto my machine.
Doesn't work in Chrome Version 27.0.1453.110 Running on Fedora 19 Beta.
why must I add another stupid background app instead of just having a simple radio button defining if I use gmail as my default mailto. I think its time for me to consider a different browser.
