The money worse it. DO NOT use MENDELEY
The best paper and reference management tool you can have
$120 / year
Why are there no recent reviews on the Chromewebstore? Paperpile remains far and away the best reference manager software for Google Docs (and possibly Word), particularly since integration with aggregation databases like CORE and BASE was added.
Won't authorize, just as well considering the terrible privacy policy.
Could not access the Paperpile this weekend.
Best ref manager for those who use multiple devices. Works and syncs between Mac, Windows, Ipad, work devices. Real easy to use
If you're a Google Docs user and a student (I'm doing my PhD right now) this is amazing. The ability to annotate PDFs in the system, the cloud-based sync, and the beautiful integration with Google Drive make this by far my favourite citation management solution. (I feel like I'm sounding fake but I'm not! I've tried others like Zotero and been frustrated.) I have no issues that haven't been quickly resolved - their customer service has been amazing when I've had questions! Finally, I now use the iOS app on an iPad with a Pencil and it's like paper and pen life but with everything stored and accessible from everywhere. ANYWAY, I'll stop - just, it's amazing.
I love it. I have been using this for a few months and really like how it organizes articles. Some functions need to be improved such as creating accurate reference pages with DOIs. Overall, it's a great app for students, researchers.
Too op
This is simply the best piece of software out there.
It just works the way you expect it to, and fills a niche that otherwise takes several other disconnected systems to fill. Thank you!
I just discovered this extension and I love it. It is very easy to use. It is definitely one I will share with my students.
Best on the market - especially with the new android app for offline reading.
love love love that it integrates with Chrome and Google Drive so you can search for papers, add them using the extension, and then insert into a google doc. Amazing!!!
This really is the best money I've invested in pursuing my degree - particularly as someone with ADHD! It makes everything so easy and fluid. I don't understand why people are still using more remedial software for referencing/citing - or worse, doing it manually - when paperpile is available. It renders everything else obsolete. The library feature is just SUPERB and again, saves me so much time and energy. I don't need to worry about printing and highlighting and annotating and filing bits of paper or books anymore. I can access my library anywhere with an internet connection. All my reading and research is neatly organised, labelled with appropriate tags, filed and annotated. I can easily export the highlighting/annotating I've done into a clearly organised document. I can easily access, organise and find every relevant bit of reading, research and note taking I've ever done. This really is a game changer!!!
Paperpile is the best citation manager! I pretty much use google docs exclusively as my word processor of choice, and, since I do research, this extension is extremely useful for me. It is easy to use and very reliable. I used to use endnote but this has pretty much replaced it.
There's really nothing better. I've used Endnote since 2002, but always somewhat grudgingly. And yet, nothing seemed much better. Paperpile is the only reference manager that I think beats Endnote by a lot. It's straightforward, lean, and flexible. It's also very easy to share bibliography with others. Backing up to Google Drive is similarly excellent, as Endnote all buts requires users to back up to its own web version (you can make a copy of the bibliography and save it to Google Drive or OneDrive, etc., but this isn't the same). I use a PC with WIN10 and a Chromebook, and Paperpile works perfectly on both. My only quibble is that I'd like to alter the UI (why are titles so large and authors so small?), but this is far from a dealbreaker, as I can use the Stylus Chrome extension to alter the CSS in my browser.
This extension works great - it's simple and straightforward. Unless you use multiple gmail accounts. Then it's a huge pain, because PaperPile will give you an authentication error whenever you try to format your references until you log off from all of your accounts and log in to only the account that you have PaperPile through. A little dialog asking for confirmation or a password would be nice.
Just made my PhD ten times easier!!
I was looking for extensions that will perform automatic in-text citations for a scientific manuscript when I stumbled across Paperpile. I have been using a different automatic citation app for Microsoft Word, but it's way more tedious to collaborate with multiple authors on Word, whereas Google Docs is easy for collaborations but doesn't have any built-in tools for automatic citations. Turns out, Paperpile is EXACTLY what I needed! Easy to use (figured it out in just a couple minutes), and I love that it will automatically update all references in the style you want. I also love being able to search for papers while writing and that there's a Chrome extension to add papers you searched online. So far so good, now to convince my co-authors to jump on board too.
Wow, this is efficient and seamless. After trying to use Zotero's slow, buggy plugin for Google Docs, I am more than happy to pay $3 a month for something that actually works. In the short time I've been using it, they've even made it better, such as by adding a "edit this citation" button. Thank you for the great product.
Excellent, but usually takes a couple of refreshes for the extension to detect a pdf. Not sure why that is. Any fixes?
I've used this to write many many papers, grants, and now my masters thesis. I recommend this software to my friends when I see them manually inputting citations (like CAVE PEOPLE). You should charge more for this software, I would pay it. Thank you.
Paperpile works the way I always imagined a cloud based literature management tool should. I've tried Mendeley and Zotero. I wanted to love Zotero in particular, but both of those apps just introduce too much friction when working with multiple devices. Paperpile allows me to flag papers while at work and then read them later on my e-reader, personal laptops, phone etc.
i don't need to say anymore, except that it's SO GOOD. it makes paper writing so much easier
Where do I even begin!!! BEST BEST BEST. Used it for the 30 days and I am definitely going to subscribed. Mendeley is great neh, but this 100x better!!! An intelligent system! Thank you to everyone who has been part of developing Paperpile, it has truly improved my thesis writing experience by A LOT! Only gripe is the lack offline functionality: or perhaps the paid version has this, but it would be great to insert references from my library even when online!!
Love how intelleigent paperpile is. All the other Ref management softwares that I have used need to be fed manually or they did not have Google Docs intergration. You can simply click the browser button and Paperpile does all the hardwork of downloading the pdf and updating the reference with correct data. The other cool thing is that you can search for papers while you are writing a document. I have never seen that anywhere! Awesome product and awesome support team - they helped to solve two of the problems I had very quickly. THis is the first Google Chrome app that I paid for and I never regret that money.
In my first year of a PhD and PaperPile has been incredibly useful. 1. great organizational system with nested folders, user-defined tags/labels with colors, good search function, etc. 2. Viewer with easy annotation functions like highlighting and comments 3. Great integration with Chrome, typically 1 click auto-downloads PDF with all the correct metadata 4. Integration /w Google Docs makes reference management incredibly easy 5. They make all your data readily available in generic formats so there is no vendor lock-in. Very rarely am I this satisfied with a product.
Just love it better than any other referencing add on. It does the work perfectly. Besides their customer service is just awesome. I was in a trouble using this, they help me out. Appreciated!!
Absolutely superb. Better than Endnote and whatever else is out there. (PS: Full offline support please!!!!)
its amazing. with lots of capabilities
This has been a very useful reference manager for our team; we have stopped using other products. It includes the ability to format documents using the NIH PMCID field. The support is outstanding also--I had a problem over Thanksgiving break and they answered within 24 hours. We now write all our research manuscripts and grants using Google Docs and Paperpile, and I ask all my students, pre-docs and post-docs to use it.
Started having some "Whoops — something went wrong while formatting your document" problems and wasted my one day's work.
Not functional. None of the buttons work on the extension. Disappointing as the Paperpile reference manager system is excellent.
This is the best reference manager I have used (prev tried endnote and mendeley). So intuitive and works most of the time. The one problem I had was dealt with quickly by support.Integration with google docs is excellent and cloud-based library means I can work on any device straight away. I just wish my colleagues would switch over to google docs too as it doesn't always play nicely with MS Office.
Mine has stopped working - keeps telling me that I need to reload the page, I click on this, it reloads then still won't let me do anything. As soon as I click on something in Paperpile, the message reappears flickering.
Looks promising, but not yet for academics, especially due to poor support for BibTeX. BibTeX keys not shown by default. Overwrites BibTeX keys on auto-update. Cannot choose which fields to export in BibTeX citation (e.g., Location).
I love the functional integration between MetaPDF and Paperpile for my research work.
The google docs integration in Paperpile is a lifesaver! It works seamlessly - well worth the yearly price.
I used to use Papers on the Mac, but I wanted a cloud-based solution that would run on Mac, Windows, and ChromeOS. It was also important to me that I can access my library (metadata AND full text) on all my devices. Paperpile fit the bill PERFECTLY. I have been using it for several years, since it was in beta, and it is awesome at keeping track of my research, storing all my PDFs in Google Drive, and letting me search my papers when writing. Cite-as-you-write integration with Google Docs is a big plus! The recently-added metapdf annotations engine makes the experience complete.
I have used a few reference managers over the years, including my University's RefWorks, but found Paperpile to be the simplest. Clean layout and integrates well with Google Docs. Good support for importing and annotating PDFs. Quite happy to pay the yearly fee.
Does exactly what it says on the box, amazing. So smooth and easy to use compared to endnote. I just wish I could import lists from databases like Medline etc... it could just be that I don't know how to work it out though
Incredible reference management software. I was a Zotero fanatic before I tried this!
Works great, glad I found it.
best ever. More userfriendly than Evernote or Refman
The paperpile is reliable, easy to use, and very convenient when writing papers. I have worked with it for 3 months total while writing my paper and have only experienced minimal problems with it. They also have the best customer service I have experienced for an app so far. A must try!!
Fantastic citation manager. Paperpile allowed me to write my entire thesis within google docs, making my workflow immeasurably smoother. Having all papers saved online in the cloud combined with google docs meant that I could use different computers and never worry about data loss. I just wish I had found it sooner!
That's how it should work
Best citation manager software by a long shot; phenomenal integration with Google Docs. Small minus is that it (currently) only works online, and that export to BibTeX requires manual postprocessing (citation keys are arbitrary, some fields result in wrong LaTeX commands); however, these flaws are shared with other citation managers.
Have been looking for an application like that since I started my PhD!! Auto-download pdf, perfect understanding of scopus pages, Google Docs integration and metaPDF annotations! Keep developing guys! Don't become another Mendelazy! More than happy to buy your product.
I am a researcher and use Paperpile all the time. Love it!!!
About time a reference manager allows you to import pdfs that already have highlights and annotations. And it creates a clean outline of those highlights and annotations.
This is just amazing, it makes academic writing extremely fluent. Thanks a lot
I'm finishing my PhD Thesis and used paperpile as reference manager in google docs. Really convenient and usefull when you have to write manuscript both in research group and at home.
Paperpile and MetaPDF are the most promising apps for a long time! Both are much better than I could ever imagine from something I never heard of. I want to use Google Docs in research. Now I can...
Very good! I have just started using Paperpile and I am excited with the features so far. I think that after trying this month I think I will not continue using Mendeley. I just loved that I can work with Google Docs and the automatic autodetection of duplicates while importing is amazing!!
This really helps me use GDocs for writing academic papers - couldn't do it without Paperpile.
Paperpile is awesome. It makes grabbing papers from the web easy, and best of all I can write in G Docs with full referencing integration. Sharing is solid as well.
The best of all! Wonderful integration with scientific databases and Google Docs service. Unfortunately is a paid service.
Best reference manager I ever tried. Everything well designed, everything just works!
Fantastic! It makes academic writing in Google Docs possible.
Working awesome on a Chromebook. Helped me through several grad school papers. Really nice job on this product. Product is top-notch and service is extraordinarily responsive and helpful.
A fantastic product. Easy integration with Google Docs and superb integration with Google Search and Web of Science. I can easily add references from Google Search results or Web of Science results with a convenient button.
Excellent app to maintain to organize and PDF files and handy extension. Have had no trouble at all.
I've written and submitted three docs using Paperpile. Two of them were heavily collaborative and it worked like a charm. I'm gradually converting my lab members to use Paperpile as well (rather then Endnote etc.)
Needs to get rid of automatically adding hyperlinks to citations; they're a pain to remove. Otherwise pretty great.
Absolutely great tool and even greater support 24h, 7 days a week!! Thanks Paperpile! :)
Excellent app and terrific business model.
Highly intuitive and reliable. So far I am amazed by how intelligently this citation manager operates compared to others that I have ever used. Plus, this works as a library for all the reading materials that I come across.
Exceptional in ease of importing papers from any repository/journal.
Finally a reference manger for GDocs! We waited so long. - Taps into a huge database of reference styles that include pretty much any journal (more complete than Mendeley). Also allows to use personally modified styles - killer feature! - collects PDFs with proper naming pattern in your GDrive - easy drag and drop of PDFs with automatic recognition as popularized in "Papers" on the Mac
I tried quite a few other reference managers, but Paperpile just excels in ease of use and convenience, especially for keeping an up to date collection of articles.
What I like best about this extension is the integration with google docs which allows me to write academic papers without having to shuttle referneces from one computer to another.
Echoing the thoughts of so many others, Paperpile is far-and-away the best reference manager I have tried. I'm especially excited to have a tool that is integrated with GDocs!
Simply the best reference manager. This is the future of manuscript writing right here, too bad most tenured professors are too stuck in the past to use google docs for writing papers, and so the standard of emailing multiple copies back and forth previals, often losing citation data in the process.
If all software/platforms worked as well as the entire paperpile suite does, the world would be a far more productive place. Paperpile has become an integral part of my daily workflow. An absolute must for anyone who in science who uses the internet.
The best research manager I've come across. Much cleaner and faster than Mendeley and Zotero. It handles my 11500 papers seamlessly, whereas Mendeley either crashed or was too slooow.
The best tool of its kind! Magic
Great app! Fast feedback responses, active developing, recognize almost every website extract bibtex information and download PDF automatically. pretty-formatted export BibTeX entries. What do you ask more?
I had been looking for a way to write my research up online, but always struggled with the referencing side of Google Docs. There seemed to be no easy way to manage hundreds of references easily. Paperpile was the missing piece of the puzzle. It's a fantastic solution, very easy to use, and integrates smoothly into GDocs so I didn't have to change anything to use it. I highly recommend you use Paperpile if you are dealing with a lot of references and want a stress-free solution.
awesome
Great app here. It got problematic dealing with thousands of references, and this app handles them very well. Very good support and service. Quick responses. This app is a must for anyone dealing with more than a 100 references. Very tight and useful integration with google docs and google drive.
Google docs integration insanely useful.
Amazing! Much better than any other reference management tools I have used before. Paperpile is incredibly useful for collaborative document writing with Latex or Google Docs, for sharing papers with colleagues, and organizing and reading papers in general.
Easy to use, great layout, access any where and with more features being added.
I have used the various reference managers over the years, with Endnote and Papers on Mac being my prefered. However, since starting to collaborate on GDrive as well as moving generally towards cloud-based, nothing has come close to Paperpile. Paperpile is the best solution for anyone moving toward cloud-based tools. Furthermore, it seamlessly integrates with GDrive.
Incredibly useful for research and keeping papers organised!
It's really everything I wanted from a reference manager in the cloud. I have used it for several papers now, and the integration with google scholar and gdocs really works seamlessly.
seemless integration within Pubmed and Google scholar with automatic importing of pdfs is tremendously useful. simple tagging and organising of papers within Chrome and the ability to easily insert and format refs in GDocs is also very easy and simple to use. Great stuff.
Greatly enjoy this extension. Getting papers is fast. Tagging and organizing is simple and quick. Citing for papers and exporting to a .bib file is no problem. Storage of PDFs on Drive is very handy and makes my life easy as all papers in one place and easily available. Very happy with it thus far. Had tried Mendeley, Zotero, Endnote and Papers before but like this much better.
Paperpile is pretty awesome. Features that I really enjoy: 1. the slick interface: pleasant and beautiful, but at the same time functional and not in your way 2. Auto add paper within the browser. This is a very nice feature, 'cause I tend to find the paper online and in one click it's on my library. 3. GDrive integration for automatic sync on different devices. If you are looking for a PDF Manager, to make sense of the pile of papers you've got on your desk and to not get overwhelmed, give Paperpile a go.
Very promising
Early days, but I am enjoying Paperpile!
