It is a nice addon but I have one complaint which is when I refresh the video it restarts from the begining and not remembering the point I was on before refreshing. Is there a setting for this I can set or it is by design? Thanks a lot!

it works but it turn off my captions , how to dim the light with cc ON ?
So, the only reason I installed it is to zoom inside a video to see something up close, which is advertised on the extensions' youtube channel. Well, it's utterly broken. The zooming-in per se works, but it's unusable. First of, after you zoomed-in you need to move to the portion of the screen you wanna see. You can't do that by dragging stuff around, you have to click buttons on a panel. And by "click" I mean really it: holding down the button does nothing, you have to click the button like a hundred of times, because each one moves the square by like a few millimeters. To make things worse, changing the movement direction between horizontal and vertical sometimes makes video reload, losing all progress completely, so good luck having another hundred of clicks. After stroking that for like a five minutes I finally managed to get the zoom. Well, guess what then happened? I full-screened the video, and it simply lost the zoom ?♂️ Amazing. Not gonna try that… thing again. Removing.

Pretty useful ext.(especially for an ADHD person). Settings are good n detailed enough to find the fix, If it doesn't do what it's supposed to. Thank the devs for this extension! :)

you guys are so goofy in the comments ? you can't expect it to go dark mode on every browser you come across and then rating the app 0 stars because it won't go dark mode on google maps. Be happy that it at least works. Stop complaining and use the extension for something else or install a another one.
DOES NOT WORK in Google Maps Got it specifically for Google Maps and upon clicking on extension page just blurred and nothing is available. Junk.
Claims it has a dark mode option that literally never functioned: couldn't even be activated. Waste of my time.

A lot of unnecessary garbage and yet it doesn't do the very basic funcion I installed it for, which is dark theme for Google Translate, it does it so poorly I decided to remove it.

Using it for Years. Download it... probably 2015. Sometimes when I'm at a friends place and we're just going to be watching Youtube for awhile, clicking around, lounging... I'll install this on their chrome and it'll be worth it.

Blacklisting / Whitelisting isn't working. Settings page full of annoyances such as ads, subscription banners and a Pop-up YouTube box which appears every time the settings page is opened. Buggy on a lots of popular streaming sites.

Atmosphere Lighting doesn't work at all. Just shows a bunch of solid rgb color around video
I love this extension, usually i don't write a review but this extension is so awesome that makes me happy and wrote a review. it's awesome, i love how website blur after playing videos and also dim the background and lot's of cool features.
This is pretty much needed if the youtube dark mode isn't enough. Great for dark rooms, bonus points if it's night.

It's absolutely garbage. It only puts a darkened layer over top of the web-page, plus you are unable to interact with the website while this extension is active.

At first, I thought it was a night mode extension, but it turned out to be an opacity overlay. However, you can waste time trying to figure out how to make it a night mode by doing research and watching videos. why can they just finish their work instead of me having to go through all of the trouble?
At first I clicked it it just blurred, I thought that's all, but I found Stefan Van Damme's reply in bad reviews (which obviously didn't read how to use it), and I follow his (her) tutorial and it's worked, but there's some bug (minor error), if you switch dark mode on google translate, the UI went bad, and it caused laggy when you type something to translate, if the devs could fix it then it would be amazing
It doesnt give websites a dark mode, it just puts a dark screen over everything
first, it's just a 50% opacity overlay - which makes everything just harder to read, not easier. Second - it doesn't work on google drive or if you're writing something. The second you click anything it's back to normal. It's so dumb.

it was okay when we watch a movie without doing anything but when it get darks or blurred , most of the times i cannot navigate forward or backward using pressing key. after clicking the dark area, back to the normal state and then i have to.
Not as advertised. Only converts video websites to dark mode. In spite of changing the settings for other websites, it doesn't change the mode for other websites. Also, when it changes the mode for certain google websites as the calendar and drive, it makes comprehension of the page very difficult, changes all the remaining colours and shapes on the page.
I use it in every webpage I can, except some that get very slow with it (Amazon).... I would suggest an option to change the shortcuts for the combination I chose.
I Love extensions that have a simple job and accomplishes said job silently and effectively. So if you want a dimmer screen while watching YouTube, or have several monitors like me and just don't want them all on blinding your online videos, then this app is GREAT!

Wish it worked on Amazon which was the original reason for getting this. I have Dark Mode on most of my pages except Amazon but this doesn't help for that because you can barely see anything.

I was enjoying this extension because it helped me zoom into YouTube videos, but for some reason when I started watching Netflix with it on, it started using up too much of my GPU. On the other hand, it *does* work with YouTube and has a lot of features I think other people are glancing over. I'm giving this a 'middle of the road' review because it breaks other video-streaming websites, but works on YouTube.
Did everything I needed it to, which is just giving me an option darker than YouTube's dark mode.
The extension had crashed. We.are unable to download chrome..Please restore.
It doesn't work. Sure it dims the page but as soon as you try to do anything with the page it immediately goes back to normal with the white background. And when its dimmed it dims even videos and pictures.

Our chrome extension Youtube Master can also turn off the lights while watching videos. Besides, it has other interesting features like hiding and sorting videos on the home page of Youtube.
This extension is useless. Why would i download this just for dark mode on youtube. When I can enable dark mode on Youtube settings.There is no point for this extension to exist. I guess it's useful for people who don't know how to enable darkmode on the Youtube settings but still pretty useless

I wish it would simply work on all white backgrounds after dark. Also, The dark mode goes away every time I click the touchpad button or bearly move my cursor anywhere on the screen. This issue is happening on all web pages,
Really great extensions! To get 5 stars, my only suggestion is for the Zoom in/out feature, to have a setting to change the hotkey to control the zoom or make it be controlled by the middle mouse scroll(maybe shift+middle mouse scroll?). And after we zoomed in, if we could use the cursor too to move around the zoomed-in-image that would be very useful too, as most of the times we use this feature is to see tiny text etc somewhere else on the screen, so being able to move freely would be fantastic. Currently for both these we have to left click the buttons and its kinda tedious and slow. Cheers.

not comptible making websites weird in nightt mode
The idea is simple and great, and many people need something like this. Turn Off the Lights has arguably too many more gimmicks than most of these people would need, while on the other hand failing to cover some basics. The extension (as of February 2022) does not seem to work on big sites such as Twitch and BBC, let alone on mroe local services like Niconico and Bilibili. (When run on these sites it covers the entire window.) Even on YouTube, which it seems to have been built primarily for, it is quite laggy (and I am not using any of the fancier animated options), and it makes the video jerky (dropping frames) at a standard resolusion. The last was the deal-breaker for me.
Annoying ads asking to leave a review and subscribe to their channel (I hope Google will penalize them for this).
When i want use google translate, its's exreme slowly.
Worthless. Just puts a dark layer over any site that vanishes when you click the page. The dumbest extension that I have ever tried.

This extension was okay "Turn off the lights" I would really like you to suggest that you can modify options on YouTube. But i can't modify anything. Not even sharing to my friends the video. Like others, I thought it would be a "dark mode" like what facebook and youtube has. You could literally just dim your monitor and get the same result.

Works well for what i needed, which is blocking 60fps on youtube. Unfortunately youtube only serves 30fps videos for up to 720p, so no 1080p and up on 60fps contents
A little confusing to start with, but works pretty well once getting the hang of it. HOWEVER... This extension gave me malware. So sadly uninstalling.
Darkens everything, not just the background, but the content too.

All it does is grey the screen. I wanted all the white to be gone so I could read white letters on a black background (less eye strain at night) instead of the usual black letters on glaring white. My Macbook's lowest brightness setting is still too bright at 3am in bed readings. I wish there were a "night mode" on Patreon like there is on Youtube. Downloaded this, thinking it would fix the problem and all the comments are unreadable. Also, it doesn't darken everything; the Patreon banner is "immune" to "lights out" and it is so bright in comparison it is completely distracting and hurts my eyes. Why is this product even up here? It's literally as useful as an ashtray on a motorcycle. I wish I can give this POS zero stars. Now I have to look up how to DELETE IT. Thanks for wasting my time. Even if it is free, you're an a**hole. t-_-t

THIS IS A REALLY GOOD EXTENSION, GOOGLE DRIVE SWITCHED TO HIGH CONTRAST COLORS FOR SOME REASON AND IT WAS TERRIBLE, BUT THE DARK MODE ON THIS EXTENSION FIXES IT!!!!!!
I downloaded this 'cause according to the devs supposedly it can be used to force YouTube to play videos in HD...which simply doesn't work. My videos are still defaulting to "Auto" and YouTube apparently doesn't like paying for bandwidth anymore and lowers them down to 360p literally every time I watch something. BTW If you want something to make pages not blinding white just use Dark Reader.

Literally worthless. Simply an opaque screen-sized element that tints the entire page black. No adjusting style sheets, no accounting for contrast, nothing. Just a mechanism for delivering advertisement to the user.
good utility
Had this extension for a long time, useful for pages beyond YouTube that don't have a dark mode. Can easily customize how dark I want the page to be. I'd like it more if I could click on stuff other than videos without turning it off and then having to turn it back on for the next page.
It doesn't negatively affect me, but it also doesn't help. On websites besides YouTube, it literally just does the same thing as me turning down my brightness, and even on YouTube, I usually have full screen anyway. Overall, not particularly helpful.
Great for wanting the "Full screen video" experience from youtube with low resolution video, I just dim lights with this and push F11 to hide top toolbar and it works great. Makes image sharper than just doing youtube full screen.

Great when working on the evening. I can't change the brightness on my computer and so it allows me to dim all my internet pages when reading or working. It was a bit hard for me to figure out how to make it so that all pages are dimmed and stay dim even when clicking (the star missing is for the settings that I found took too much time to understand and change) but now it's done and quite comfortable to use!

It dimmed the page when there was no dark mode for one of the websites I use and it doesn't take up a lot of space. It is also free.
dumpster tier plugin does nothing. dunno how it got 4 stars bots must've costed a fortune.
