I've been using this extension going on two years now and it does it exactly what it says. It saves memory and usually makes my life easier... as someone working with software, I often have into the 30s+ in tabs open. You can customize it to not suspend websites or specific pages as well. Even though I have a lot of memory, this simple extension makes chrome my go-to despite its tendency to act like it needs more than 3 gigs max of ram to run multiple videos at once.
I used to stand by this Extension until settings STOPPED Working! No matter what time you put in this app suspends tabs almost immediately! It also does NOT work according to "White Listed" tabs and You'll LOSE Comments on Twitter or other sites when they too are all SUSPENDED!
BEWARE. Once you enable it-- there appears to be no way to back out of having your tabs controlled by it. If you disable, tabs it has suspended are lost. If you try "unsuspend all," no go. You're stuck. Tell it not to suspend any more tabs? It keeps doing so. And it obfuscates tab icons / names when it suspends. Naughty naughty, hard to work with.
I don't write often reviews but in this case, I'll gladly do it. I have tried several other similar tools but this one is really the best and easiest I tried. And more important it works as announced ! I advice it to everyone.
when I restart my browser, all the tab icons switched to a power off icon, so impossible to know which tab is which. This is why uninstalled.
Works OK.
Works OK.
Like many others I'd been looking for a replacement for the Great Suspender for some time. So far, Tiny Suspender does seem to be the best of a not particularly great bunch. Honestly, 80% Of the time I'd probably have given it a 4 or even 5 star rating and a much better review but there are two issues for me. The first is that, every now and then for some seemingly random reason, it will suspend the tab I'm actually working on. This can be a major issue and has caused me to lose work on online forms and graphics packages as well as, for instance, suspending Facebook and when re-opened, I can't find the post I was commenting on. This random suspension is far and away the worst thing about Tiny Suspender. The second issue is a recent one (And one I admit may not be the fault of the dev, but could be a Chrome update issue) but now, if I bring a suspended tab to the front, even if I have the option for automatically re-starting a suspended page checked, the suspended pages wont re-start without being clicked on first. This is admittedly a relatively minor irritation, but it is one that I find affects work flow adversely. If both these issues were sorted, I would definitely upgrade this to a 5 start review meanwhile I'll carry on using Tint Suspender as, as I said previously, it does still seem to be the least worst option out there. Edit - 08/01/22 Well, I'm afraid that I've had to drop my review to 1 star and I'm looking for a replacement as It's getting close to being unusable for me now. Neither of the two issues I commented on previously have been addressed. I can live with having to click on a tab to open it despite having the app set to open automatically, but the fault where it randomly suspends a tab that I'm working on has gotten worse with each update of Chrome. Frequently now I'll be typing into a form and the tab will suspend for no apparent reason, losing all of the work I've just done and it just can't carry on like that. I can't recommend this app to anyone until that fault is fixed and, as there have been no updates since 2017, it would appear that any work on and support for this app has been suspended
This extension has worked well for me over a the last 3 months however since a recent update in Brave (uses the chrome engine), this plugin seems to have a memory leak as in the Brave Task Manager this extension is ALWAYS active and every second the memory usage fluctuates slowly up and down with a steady trend upwards. After a few days Brave crashes due to running out of memory. Note that is an issue on a Windows 7 system. I really hope that this bug will be fixed for the Brave Browser. I know it works well with Chromium on Linux without the memory leak. Dev I will rate as 5-stars with this bug is fixed on the Brave Windows 7 platform.
Used so many extensions, and this one provides the most comprehensive functionality and smooth experience with 34 kilobytes.
simple and functional. light and minimalist. excellent!
it is way better than others .
Have been using this for a few months now, and it does exactly what I need, and does it the way I want it to.
So far so good :) More often than not i have the open tab count close to or above the chrome maximum, and this plugin works well to save memory etc. I've used it for about a year, and so far i've not run into any problems with it - it does what it does, no unexpected behavior or crashes, etc. The only thing i wish is it had an option to load the icons of all the tabs on browser restart - it would help when you're at the point where you have to shut some tabs down. But that's a bonus that would be nice, i definitely recommend this plugin to multi-tab junkies.
One of the best I've tried. There are a bunch of this available online, and since the fall of "The Great Suspender", all of them are kinda of the same (but not quite). This in particular works very well due it's simplicity and low maintenance. Hope it keeps that way!
Thank to this awful thing i lost all the data on the page i was working on. It reloaded page and pufff, all you data on that page lost.
Have used it for about 3 weeks, works fine, restored fine even when my pc crashed and had to hard reboot.
I was looking for an alternative for The Great Suspender and this one does the job just fine, I'm not experiencing any problems on the newest version of Brave (1.20.110). I would like to be able to set a shortcut to suspend only the active tab of my active window, though, like the "Suspend This Tab" option in the context menu. The "Suspend active tab" shortcut suspends the active tab of all my open browser windows.
Great extension. Migrated from The Great Suspender after they found a malware in it. Hoping this never happens here. So far I like it. Thanx TS developer!
Came from The Great Suspender, I like being able to suspend when I CHOOSE TO, not automatically. Good replacement!
Moved from infamous Great Suspender. Tried 2 other extensions. Finally found this one. It works very smooth and is really user-friendly.
User-friendly, and does what I require of it. Suspends/restores all or individually.
Amazing concept for an extension. Would love a simple one-click suspend active tab. 90% useless because it auto suspends the active tab in EVERY open browser window, every time you click it. Issue has been known for over a year and not been fixed; assuming extension's abandoned.
Didn't find the extension working as I wanted to, but that's not the problem. After removing the extension, most of my tabs, including pinned ones, automatically closed, how could that be related?
Working awesome and does exactly what it is intended to do. One thing I would love (if possible) is for it to save & display a screenshot of the suspended tab's content so that it's easier to discern what it was before it got suspended. (sometimes the website subject alone isn't enough)
Somewhat annoyed with this extension but it's so small I put up with it. My biggest gripe is every time I open a new tab it hibernates at the time internal I set, which wouldn't be a problem normally or if I weren't still using the active tab when it does this but even while I'm typing (baaaam) it goes into hibernate, much of the time I lose data important to me like a long email or wordy forum post as the tab has to reload to wake up losing what I typed in the process. If that didn't happen, easy 4 stars. Other problem, dark mode does not always persist.
Good concept, what I wanted, to be able to control suspensions, BUT tried it out on three tabs. Suspended them nicely. Check in Task Manager, swap useage went down. BUT could NOT wake them up! Not by what it says, to click anywhere. Tried to menu, wake up this tab, wake up all suspended tabs. Nothing worked. Had to send them all to One Tab to save them. Uninstalling. THOUGHT I HAD UNINSTALLED IT! It wasn't and suspended 3 tabs. In anger, uninstalled it again. Since I could NOT UNSUSPEND THEM, I sent them to OneTab, hoping. NOW THERE IS A BUNCH OF CODING WHICH i SUPPOSED i CAN UNCODE, with all those extra signs in between, or may be able to read to know what they were. Why does it not UNsuspend??
I moved from "Tab Suspender" even though it worked perfect. Tab suspender has an annoying issue I don't like. Tab Suspender places an icon in the center of the page. If the mouse cursor runs across the icon, the page wakes up. I regularly accidentally wake up a page VERY often. Tiny suspender however does not open a page unless you click the Mouse button. PERFECT. NO accidents. So far this add on is absolutely fantastic. It works exactly as expected. I can right click and suspend a tab or click to wake up. I have all the automatic and manual controls desired and that are helpful. Thanks!!!
Using this extension with the native discards functionality. It's absolutely wonderful. My RAM utilization has gone from 6+ GB to around 1 GB, and CPU doesn't randomly spike from some webpage constantly loading ads in the background. Super happy with this extension, give it a shot.
I've tried a few similar extensions, and while this one ranks high, it had a dealbreaker issue for me: There's no way to tell which tabs are suspended without visiting them. If this extension faded the favicons of suspended tabs so one could tell at a glance which tabs were suspended, it might be my #1.
As far as I've researched. other tab suspenders don't have the option NOT to automatically suspend tabs and to only manually suspend/unsuspend with keyboard shortcuts, just the way I like it. Thanks author. (to disable automatic suspension, set timer to 0) (edit: After some time using it, I've learned that suspending one tab in one window has an effect on a tab in another window as well. This is unexpected and unwanted behavior. Details: I am suspending 16th tab in first window, and the 11h tab of the second window also gets suspended. The reverse is also true. Note: this only happens when I am using the shortcut keys for suspending/unsuspending)
I feel like it should know not to suspend forms that haven't been submitted. I deleted it because that was a pretty catastrophic suspend.
Suspends tabs permanently, does't restore if you return, click the screen, or click the restore option in the tiny suspender menu. (And yes, this claims to support my device.)
Works perfectly and smoothly! I like the feature of automatically waking up pages when they are brought to foreground.
Awesome job!!! Experimental mode suits all my needs. Thanks you.
Coming from a lousy experience with Great Suspender, I really wanted this to work, and it did, for ONE day. Today it suspended all my pinned tabs even tho I told it not to. aaargh...stuff like this makes me want to go back to Firefox in a hurry.
Just got the Tiny Suspender after The Great Suspender freaked out and dropped all my tabs but two, lol. So far looks pretty good to me, simple but has almost everything I wanted! Only suggestion for improvement I have is for an option where the suspended tabs can be dimmed or in some other way indicated to be suspended, handy to be able to differentiate. Thank you for the replacement suspender!
Cautiously optimistic. Just lost all my tabs from another Suspender chrome extension (since recovered but still not desired). On the off chance this extension were to be disabled automatically by Chrome (for any reason) would it take suspended tabs with it? Simply un-suspend them or some other non-destructive state? Able to restore them? I will be happy to provide a full 5 star rating if TS has a something which prevents tab destruction/allows restoration in those type scenarios. (Secondarily, and not tied to my 5 star dependency, same question if the Chrome application were to have a catastrophic failure, dump it's memory and restart with no record of previous tabs (happened to me at least once), how would TS behave in that scenario?)
Fix request: the extension doesn't remember the scroll location within a page - once the page is unsuspended it will be scrolled back to the top.
i love how tiny it is. But it has 1 big flaw: - if you're typing into a form, the suspender loses your edits. There's gotta be a simple fix for that.
BEST suspender after testing several tab memory release extensions and it has got tiny memory footprint...great work
Was good but just stopped restoring tabs today. Have to manually edit all the URLs. Even fixing one and then trying suspend it you can't restore it.
